I noticed that no one has brought the METAL here yet.
Let me start by going old school Power Metal with the mighty Helloween. This one's for Moosey!
From '92 when Michael Kiske was still in the band. Here he uses three of the four octaves of his range. "A Tale That Wasn't Right"

cbbc: When Ray sings country I like it better when he plays it a little more straight. Like "You Don't Know Me" or "I Can't Stop
Lovin' You." Here's "I Can't Stop Lovin' You."
Fuckin' beautiful.
Goon: I really liked that Rilo Kiley song. You weren't kidding that it was a new direction for them. It inspired me to listen to several
other of their songs and I hated every other one. But "Moneymaker" ruled. I loved that guitar riff.

Here's James Brown singing "Prisoner of Love" (probably his greatest ballad) on Sullivan:

Janis takes a Porgy and Bess standard (perhaps the essential jazz standard for vocalists) and makes it all her own.

Perry Farrell, Slash, and Tom Morello jamming on Jane's Addiction's "Mountain Song" at this years South by Southwest Festival. This is
2:45 of it. I wish it was the whole thing because it is a wicked performance.
By the way, it starts off sideways for some reason but corrects itself soon after.

And just imagine if, instead of the Palins, the Obama family had a pregnant, underage daughter on display at
their convention, flanked by her black boyfriend who "intends" to marry her. Who among conservatives would have resisted the temptation to speak of
"the dysfunction in the black community"?

I posted this in the YouTube thread, but wanted to repost it here. This is just one of the most heartbreaking songs ever. Also, I just love the
juxtaposition of Steve Earl's voice, which just speaks hurt, vs Emmylou, who takes over whoever she's singing to with that all
encompassing voice.

Get ready for the Van Halen reunion. Check these out. And yes indeed, that is Wolfgang Van Halen handling the bass parts and the backing vocals and
all of it at 16 years old. Go Wolfie!!
Edited to say that this is footage from recent rehearsals taking place in an undisclosed location.
Heres Ed doing his thing.
And part 2 of that
Part of Panama
Part of Beautiful Girls
I dont how much this concert is going to cost, but I really think I need to see this for myself.

Thanks again for the Helloween clip Boer, if anyone cares, here is their most popular song (but not my favorite) from the Michael Kiske era (Kiske was
the second singer, and the one that sang in the clip Boer linked)
And here is a clip with their third, and current singer, Andi Deris, this is one of my favorites from this era
and here are some clips of Helloween with their original singer Kai Hansen. I could only find one live clip with him singing, and it was not very
good
My personal fuck-off list: 1. Tony Romo 2. Eli Manning 3. The New York Yankees 4. LeBron James 5. Kobe Bryant 6. SEC Fans 7. The SEC 8. the
Political Right 9. religion 10. Almost everything the WWE does

Thanks for this find, Eli. These guys have been a fave of my wife and I since seeing them mid 90's in NO. About a year ago they were touring
and stopped in Ft. Worth where we saw them. The show opened with this video, segueing into it being performed live, inclusive of the guy who did
vocals (in another NO band who earlier opened for them).

From the Preservation Hall Jazz Band's website (Linky)
quote:
We are proud to debut the music video of Complicated Life (directed by Henry Griffin) a track from the upcoming release Made in New Orleans: The
Hurricane Tapes. This song was originally performed by the Kinks and composed by Ray Davies. Benjamin Jaffe arranged the song in the vernacular of
Preservation Hall and conceived this video which is a journey through New Orleans' French Quarter. It features guest vocalist Clint Maedgen of
The New Orleans Bingo! Show delivering food from Fiorella's through the French Quarter and culminating at Preservation Hall where the story all
began. Spread the word.
And the New Orleans Bingo! Show is very good, too.
Jeb -thx for the Kinks reco - wasn't familiar with that one.

I present to you....The Pipettes.
I hope Eli fucking hates it. I hope he hates it so much he wakes up in a cold sweat raging at how unoriginal and derivative it is, and how they add
nothing to the genre except being white and British. This thought is the only thing that could make me love this band more.
