I apologize for not posting the first two promos on how the whole Chuck Taylor/Kenny Omega vs El Generico feud started.

"This ain't over"

"This STILL ain't over!"

With that out of the way the press release for the next PWG card is up, as it is only a week after Speed of Sound.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Guerre Sans Frontires takes place on Friday, September 4, 2009!
By Silverback, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Staff Writer

Shadow Moses Island, CA - With two of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's biggest events of the year separated by only one week, the Board of Directors felt it pertinent to make each event really stand out. After all, if one appears to be significantly better than the other, it is safe to assume that one event will be significantly better attended than the other. With a killer lineup already announced for Speed of Sound (taking place Friday, August 28), there was a lot of pressure to make the event on Friday, September 4 stand out. Fortunately, the marketing geniuses here at Pro Wrestling Guerrilla did exactly that in three easy steps:

First, a name everyone can get behind. Since the majority of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla audience are college educated working professionals, age 39-50, who like to travel abroad in their leisure time (according to the last demographic survey we took), we felt it safe to name the event Guerre Sans Frontires. Please, try not to spill any espresso on your baguette while you chuckle at the layers of creativity.

Second, assemble a talented and diverse locker room of wrestlers that fans want to see. Check.

Third, with the aforementioned locker room, create a lineup that fans want to see. To wit:

Six-Man Tag Team Never-In-Your-Wildest-Dreams Match
Brian Kendrick & The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. CIMA & Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley)

-- WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN

Singles Match
Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson vs. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

-- Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson has spent approximately 46 of the last 52 weeks in Japan, wrestling full time for New Japan Pro Wrestling. When he's not wrestling, he's at the gym, or training at the dojo. When Karl Anderson comes back to the United States, it's like a vacation. He enjoys visiting with his friends and family in Pipestone, MN, and spending time at the beaches of Southern California. Sure, it's great to see the family and all that, but Karl Anderson's true love is the beach, (and the scantily-clad women that come with it). How can "Machine Gun" possibly maximize the time he spends in Southern California in a way that his friends and family would find acceptable? Tell them it's work related!

"Oh, yeah, sorry, I'd LOVE to see you guys, but Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is having two shows a week a part, and they NEED me at both of them! You guys understand, right? I'll see you guys next time I'm back in the States!"

While Karl Anderson will spend the intervening seven days between Speed of Sound and Guerre Sans Frontires in the sun, covered in oil, sipping Mojitos, "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson will be training. There is no off season for Bryan Danielson. Every moment of his life is spent maximizing his potential, whether it's through rigorous physical activity, or sharpening his mental acuity. Sure, he loves to have fun, too, but you don't become "the Best in the World" by asking cocktail waitresses if you can see what's underneath their sarong. While Karl Anderson is dreaming of his vacation in sunny California, Bryan Danielson is planning on sending "Machine Gun" back to Japan battered and broken, a message to anyone that thinks they are "the Best in the World."

Singles Match
Naruki Doi vs. Scott Lost

-- Despite the fact that Scott Lost was defeated by Alex Shelley at Threemendous II, he came perilously close to defeating Shelley on numerous occasions. But Scott's real defining moment was during Joey Ryan's Guerrilla Warfare match with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion Chris Hero. Repeatedly throughout the match, Joey glanced at the curtain, hoping to see Scott coming to his aid, or simply just as an extra set of hands to clubber Chris Hero with. Though Joey didn't discuss any of this with Scott, he assumed his long-time partner would be there. However, Scott Lost left shortly after intermission that night, and the statement was clear: Don't take me for granted anymore; I'm my own man now.

Focused on raising his stature in the singles division of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Scott Lost hopes to follow the same career trajectory of Naruki Doi in Dragon Gate. Doi, who has had great success as a tag team wrestler, is currently the Open the Dream Gate champion, which is the top singles prize Dragon Gate has to offer. However, to reach this point in his career, Doi had to overcome the stigma of being known primarily as a tag team wrestler, and did so by winning the King of Gate tournament. Replace the tournament with the Battle of Los Angeles, and replace the title with the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship, and you may have just seen Scott Lost's game plan for the foreseeable future.

Scott Lost's journey to the top has already started, but a victory over Naruki Doi at Guerre Sans Frontires could not only catapult Scott up the ladder in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, but raise his international standing as well. Naruki Doi, on the other hand, has reached the top, and must do everything in his power to stay there. While the Open the Dream Gate Championship is not up for grabs on September 4, it makes this match no less important. In order the cement his status as one of the top singles wrestlers in the world, Doi must face every challenge and defeat every adversary, no matter the stakes.

Singles Match
Joey Ryan vs. Shingo Takagi

-- When Shingo Takagi spent nearly a year in America as on a professional wrestling learning excursion, he had the opportunity to wrestle in numerous locations, and face numerous opponents, that Japanese wrestlers typically would not be able to. When he finally returned to Japan in early 2007, Shingo was a changed man. He took the best that Japanese and American professional wrestling had to offer and combined it into a fast-paced, hard-hitting style that has served him exceptionally well ever since. Shingo even returned to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, where his Japanese-American fusion helped him reach the Quarter Final round. Upon his return to Southern California, Shingo was reminded of a very strange individual he had met during his travels. This man was unlike any that Shingo had met before, certainly not like anyone in Japan, and apparently unique in America, as well. This man was Joey Ryan.

While Shingo strove to take the best aspects of American professional wrestling and distill it into a formula that, when combined with the best aspects of the Japanese style, was unstoppable. But when he would watch Joey Ryan, Shingo saw a wrestler that embraced the worst aspects of professional wrestling in general, and was successful! On the very same night that Shingo made his Pro Wrestling Guerrilla debut, Joey Ryan defended his World Championship for the seventeenth time! Sure, Shingo has been successful with his combination of the Japanese and American styles, but could he have been more successful if he followed in Joey Ryan's footsteps, instead?

On Friday, September 4 at Guerre Sans Frontires, Shingo Takagi, Joey Ryan, and professional wrestling fans around the world will find out just whose style really is the best.

Tag Team Match
The Cutler Brothers (Brandon & Dustin Cutler) vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre)

Singles Match
Candice LeRae vs. Christina Von Eerie

Plus Johnny Goodtime, Charles Mercury, Jerome "LTP" Robinson, and more!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Guerre Sans Frontires takes place Friday, September 4, 2009, at 8:00 PM at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA. American Legion Post #308 is located at 7338 Canby Ave., Reseda, CA 91335. Front Row tickets are $25, and General Admission tickets are $20. Tickets are available for purchase online at the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Event Tickets page. Any remaining and will be available at the door. For more information, please visit http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com. Video recording devices are not permitted. Card subject to change.

A ton of the talent like Davey Richards, Human Tornado, PWG World Champion Chris Hero etc. are booked for IWA MS's Ted Petty Invitational which is the same day as Guerre Sans Frontires. With that in mind I think PWG has still managed to make the best of the situation and use the help of their sister promotion from Japan. Dragon Gate USA has a show on Sunday the 7th in Chicago and it's nice to see PWG get some assistance.

A world without Brian Kendrick is not a world that Brian Kendrick wants to live in. That's why on August 28, at Speed of Sound, Brian Kendrick will return to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and show the fans exactly what they've been missing, and why they're better off now than they have ever been before. Bryan Danielson, on the other hand, is wondering why everyone he knows from the Texas Wrestling Academy is now completely insane.

Wrestle Reunion 4 is being held here in L.A. It will run from January 28th-31st, 2010. Ring of Honor (ROH) will make their So-Cal debut by running a show on the 28th.

But the real news is that Rob Van Dam will finally make his PWG debut and wrestle for PWG's show on January 29th.

As far as I know Rob has been wrestling only in Italy as of late so it'll be quite the treat to see him live again in States. The last time I saw him wrestle live was against Scotty Anton, so there should be no doubt I will get to see a more entertaining RVD match.

RVD's in PWG? Well that just confirms the suspicions I've had for awhile. After every press release I've read or video I've watched one question has kept coming to mind. And now that RVD's there I think I have my answer. Everyone in PWG is just perpetually stoned out of their minds, aren't they?

Well what can I say? The Briscoes, Aries and plenty of others have nothing but nice things to say about our state plant.

The PWG wellness policy only prohibits excessive amounts of cocaine and the injection of melted world titles.

New announcement!

One of the most exciting high flying superstars to ever step into the ring, Jushin "Thunder" Liger, has signed to appear at WrestleReunion 4 in Los Angeles. Jushin Liger is a Japanese superstar who has also worked for World Championship Wrestling, Ring of Honor and TNA in the United States. He will be part of the Superticket experience. Liger will also be wrestling on both the Ring of Honor show on Friday (January 29th) and the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla event on Saturday (January 30th). Don't miss your chance to meet and watch Jushin "Thunder" Liger in action at WrestleReunion 4!

This is unreal, I never thought I would get the chance to see Jushin Thunder Liger wrestle live. This is shaping up to be PWG's biggest first show of the year.

Updates to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Guerre Sans Frontires on 9/4!
By Silverback, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Staff Writer

Midlothian, CA - Often times in the world of professional wrestling, things just don't work out how they're anticipated. Case in point: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com) upcoming event on Friday, September 4, 2009, Guerre Sans Frontires, or as it has become known internally, the Tom Petty Invitational. See, months ago, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla management reached out to recording artist Tom Petty (of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers fame) to see if he would be interested in putting on a Super Bowl XLII-esque performance during the 15-minute intermission at Guerre Sans Frontires. All calls and queries to Mr. Petty's management have gone unreturned, but the invitation still stands! There is a possibility that Tom Petty may be performing live at American Legion Hall #308 in Reseda, CA during Guerre Sans Frontires, but there is also a distinct possibility that he may not. Taking that into account, the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Board of Directors have made some superb additions to an already amazing lineup.

Tickets for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Guerre Sans Frontires are available online right now at the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Ticket Page, and will also be available for purchase at Speed of Sound, taking place this Friday, August 28 in Reseda, CA. The updated lineup for Guerre Sans Frontires will feature:

Possible Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship Title Match/Farewell Singles Match
Chris Hero (Possible Champion) vs. "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

-- When it was announced that "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson had signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, it was like a kick in the pants followed by a punch in the gut. "First, no Tom Petty, now this?" was the sentiment around the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla office. Sure, we're happy for the guy, it's a great opportunity and all, but we really liked having someone called "The Best In The World" on our shows. It was a Greatness-by-Association-type thing. But when Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion Chris Hero caught wind of the intra-office bellyaching, he put a stop to it all.

"I am now the longest reigning Pro Wrestling Guerrilla champion in history. I have defended the title successfully against every person who wanted a shot. Yet Bryan Danielson is the 'Best in the World?' I already beat him at the 2008 Battle of Los Angeles. After I beat Roderick Strong at Speed of Sound, will people call me the 'Best in the World?' Somehow, I don't think so. What will it take to prove that I am the best? Beating Danielson? Again? If that's what it takes, I'll do it. If he's man enough to take the match before he leaves, then I'll be man enough to put the title on the line against him."

Possible Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship Title Match/Singles Match
Roderick Strong (Possible Champion) vs. Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson

-- At Speed of Sound, taking place this Friday, August 28 in Reseda, CA, Roderick Strong has a very real chance of becoming the Fourteenth Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion. By using some deductive logic, if Chris Hero believes he should be considered the "Best in the World" because he beat Bryan Danielson in a non-title match, then that means Roderick Strong should be World Champion, since he defeated Hero at It's a Gift... and a Curse. Of course, this isn't the case, and Roderick Strong knows no amount of deductive logic will make him World Champion, only some broken backs. Roderick's complete focus on his upcoming title match is why he has no opinion on the man that could potentially be his first challenger, Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson.

At Speed of Sound, Karl Anderson will be teaming with Joey Ryan (known together as The Dynasty International) to take on Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks... in a non-title match. To say this was disappointing news to The Dynasty is an understatement, however with the new additions to the lineup of Guerre Sans Frontires, Karl Anderson's day has been brightened. If Roderick Strong defeats Chris Hero at Speed of Sound, the "Machine Gun" could be returning to Japan as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion! While The Young Bucks have proven themselves as one of the top tag teams in the world, it would be tough blame Karl Anderson for thinking about his potential title shot instead of the World Tag Team Champions.

Karl Anderson and Roderick Strong's only prior meeting came at Dia De Los Dangerous! in a 3-Way match for the vacant Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship, which was won by the third man in the ring, Human Tornado. At Guerre Sans Frontires, Tornado will not be involved, and this second meeting between Roderick Strong and Karl Anderson could very well be the first defense for a brand new champion, or the end of a seven day title reign. Though there is a third option: it could be a hard fought singles contest between two tough opponents. But if you ask Roderick Strong, there is no way Chris Hero leaves Speed of Sound as World Champion.

Six-Man Tag Team Never-In-Your-Wildest-Dreams Match
Brian Kendrick & The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) vs. CIMA & Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley)

Singles Match
El Generico vs. Shingo Takagi

Singles Match
Naruki Doi vs. Joey Ryan

Singles Match
Scott Lost vs. Human Tornado

Tag Team Match
The Cutler Brothers (Brandon & Dustin Cutler) vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre)

Singles Match
Candice LeRae vs. Christina Von Eerie

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Guerre Sans Frontires takes place Friday, September 4, 2009, at 8:00 PM at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA. One more change has been made to the card and I think it's a good one. I wasn't too excited to see Los Luchas vs The Cutlers again. I really wanted to see more of Gatson, Goodtime, LTP, Shane Haste, and Mercury. I got four out of five.

With Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's Guerre Sans Frontires just days away, online ticket sales have ended and Front Row Tickets have sold out well in advance. However, if you didn't order your tickets already, you are in luck, the remaining General Admission Tickets will be available at the door. The lineup Guerre Sans Frontires is already one of, if not the, biggest single shows in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla history, and it's about to get a little bigger. 2009 has seen an influx of new and returning local talent from here in Southern California, and they are being given the chance to showcase their abilities on one of the biggest events in company history!

9-Man 3-Way Tag Team Match
The Cutler Brothers (Brandon & Dustin Cutler) & Charles Mercury vs. Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre) & Malachi Jackson vs. Johnny Goodtime, Shane Haste, & Jerome "LTP" Robinson

I think this is a great way to showcase some of the local talent on what is such a high profile show.

Bah, whatever...

The opening 9-man 3-way tag was badass-***1/2

Womens match wa whatever.,bettrr than any divas match, though..,*1/2

Scott Lost over Tornado...Kickass match ***1/2

Roderick Strong over Karl Anderson...Hilarious match. Got real serious and ended up being great...****

Naruki Doi over Joey Ryan...Good, fun match. Doi destroyed him! ***1/4

SHINGO over El Generico...Just...Amazing...One of the greatest ass kickings Generico has ever taken, and one of the greatest ass kickings in wrestling history! MUST SEE, and worth getting the DVD for ****1/2
The 6-man dream tag of CIMA/Sabin/Shelley vs the Young Bucks/Kendrick...kickass spotfest, and very different than a typical 6-Man in the first half! I really forget who won this one, I was so drunk at this point! ****1/2 Great shit if you like spot fests!

EDIT: was just reminded that CIMA's team picked up the victory!

Ok, the main event was INCREDIBLE...Danielson beat Hero to win the PWG title...Match went 50-55 minutes, and was one of Danielson/Hero's best matches ever. Danielson made him tap with a crazy variation of the crossface Chickenwing. This match gets *****, and was just...so awesome!

Glad my first trip to Cali ruled.

Watch PWG, guys!

The show ruled. Good to know you "dedicated" PWG fans cared enough about the groundbreaking show to post about it. Hell, all I have is a telescope through which I can view the public library & a tin can with a wire attached . Go me.

PWG Guerre Sans Frontieres - Reseda, CA 9/4/09

PWG runs the same building in Reseda every month and has been doing so since for at least a year. Despite this they have yet to figure out things like getting people "into" the building in a "timely manner." Doors open about an hour late and the show starts about the same hour late. It's not a huge deal because you're expecting it and the weather was nice outside but it's still a bit of a pain. There were probably between 400 and 450 people there and what we can conclude from that is that Paul London is a bigger draw than Bryan Danielson.

Brandon and Dustin Cutler & Charles Mercury vs. Johnny Goodtime, Shane Haste & Jerome "LTP" Robinson vs. Phoenix Star, Zokre & Malachi Jackson

A friend of ours came down to LA with us because we were going to a dodgers game the next night and he'd never really seen wrestling before. In the opening minute of the opening match Los Luchas roll out and tell us to "watch out." I hightail it out of my front-row center seat and take up residence near the ring post just in time to see all sorts of dives go crashing into where I was sitting. You know how this goes: A few guys roll out, some guys dive onto them, some other guys dive out, the original guys roll back in and then dive out, and finally Malachi Jackson (younger brother of the tag champs) caps it off with a really good looking shooting star press off the top. The Cutler Brothers were inoffensive here which is a step up from them. This was another decent-enough but really hot opener. I thought about Ric Flair at the ROH show opining that the wrestlers in the opener were "doing too much" and I laughed because indie wrestling.

Christina Von Eerie vs. Candace LaRae

Bill & I had seen Christina Von Eerie fight Raesha Saeed at a Pro Wrestling Revolution show in Milpitas earlier this year and that match was kind of a stinker. This was much better. They brawled on the outside a bit at the beginning and Candace really walloped Von Eerie with a forearm and it was neat. Later in the match Von Eerie set Candice up on the apron with the double-underhook could be a tiger bomb or whatever setup and I started to opine that it was a stupid setup because I didn't believe that she was really going to dump LaRae on the floor. It's like when Kurt Angle sets up for the belly-to-back suplex from the apron to the floor. He's not going to hit it so who cares? As I was saying this Von Eerie took a bit of a jump and pedigreed Candice on the apron and they both dropped to the floor. "Oh." I said. "So we're using an apron pedigree as a transition spot. All right." They got back in the ring and continued to beat up on each other until Laree secured the victory with a victory roll. This was a good match and I do not usually like ladies wrestling.

Scott Lost vs. Human Tornado

I have previously explained my enjoyment of Scott Lost and he was as solid as ever here. Tornado comes out to the Loney Island's "I'm on a Boat" and it's great fun. Both of these guys are plenty capable and they went out and put on a perfectly acceptable mid-card match. That designation is going to be more important in just a minute. Lost hits his roundhouse kick to the head for the win and Tornado sold it like he was out cold. He woke up after a minute looking confused and scooted out of the ring on his butt then scooted up the aisle on his butt.

Roderick Strong vs. Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson

Now as I'm sure a number of you are aware I hate Rod Strong. I've hated him for a long time now and I'm probably going to hate him well into the future. But I try to be fair in my opinions and since Larry had given me a "He's not so bad" last time I was in Boston I thought I'd give Rod a shot. And I would like to say that he almost had me! He snapmared Anderson or employed some sort of takedown and he slaps on a front facelock. Anderson scrambles to get out of it and Rod scrambled to stay on him, keeping that facelock on. I thought to myself "oh, that was sharp staying on him I wonder if Rod really has gotten better." Immediately after I think this to myself Roddy sort of sat up in the facelock, relaxing his grip and just sort of hanging out, pretending to fight. You know, because it's just meaningless match-opening grappling, so why bother trying very hard or doing it very well or taking any sort of pride in your work at all? Who cares? Rod Strong can go to hell. The rest of the match was 20 minutes of big moves and super intense kickouts and nearfalls and it was way, way too long and way, way too much for the middle of the card. We hadn't even hit intermission, we had all of the Dragon Gate matches to go PLUS the title match and these two just wouldn't stop wrestling. It really felt like they were shooting for classic and just went too far. Rod finally with that running boot that he does. (That boot does look good, I'll give him credit for that.)

Naruki Doi vs. Joey Ryan

Naruki Doi, current Dragon Gate Open the Whatever Gate champion vs. Joey Ryan, former PWG champion and king of sleaze. The meat of this match was pretty much what you'd expect but the finishing sequence was note perfect and I was very, very impressed with how it went. Doi hit Ryan with something big and Ryan pops his shoulder off the mat with that reflexive spasm. Then, and this is key, he didn't do anything. This wasn't "we're going to trade finishers," this was "Joey Ryan isn't giving up." They're two plays from the same book but it's incredible how different they come off. So Doi sees that Ryan kicked out, picks him up and hits him with something else that's just as big and this time Ryan just barely got his shoulder up. Again, he didn't do anything. Doi kills him again and AGAIN Ryan kicks out, each time not even screaming or pounding the mat or really looking at Doi, just sitting there refusing to stay down. It was a perfect, perfect "I don't have it in me to win this but I will not quit." Doi finally kills him for good, prying a hard fought victory from Ryan.

El Generico vs. Shingo

I don't know whether Shingo has a natural talent for facial expressions or it's something that he developed wrestling over here but he's way better at it than the rest of the Dragon Gate guys. He was good here, he's a capable guy but the highlight for me was Generico. He's just so damned personable and if you can get past the fact that his selling style is just a little bit goofy he's a real blast to watch. This match was pretty much exactly what Rod & Karl were shooting for only Generico & Shingo pulled it off. They beat the piss out of each other and finished down the stretch with all of that fighting spirit business. It wasn't a five star classic or anything but it was a very good match.

Brian Kendrick & the Young Bucks vs. CIMA & the Motor City Machine Guns

A significant portion of the PWG crowd has turned on the Bucks. I'm not 100% sure why but it's probably just the old familiarity breeding contempt. I think the Bucks are o-k but a vocal portion of the crowd hating them in a match where they spent a lot of time as face-in-peril makes for a bad dynamic. This was an odd match. The Bucks aren't particularly good at the face in peril thing, they're good at going a million miles an hour and flying all over the place. I've seen them do that, and I've seen them do it against the MCMGs so to watch what they were doing here wasn't that interesting. Speaking of which can anyone remind me why we all seem to love Spanky so much? When London came to PWG you know you were going to get something crazy and eventually he'd do his pretty SSP, but with Spanky I was at a loss. What are we expecting from him? I'm still in awe of Alex Shelley. It is beyond me why this man is not a bigger star. Him and Sabin have tremendous timing and it is a joy to watch them work together. CIMA wasn't bad here either, doing a lot of rude/crude crazy max style stuff. Some guy in the crowd kept trying to get a rise out of him by waving a stuffed monkey around but CIMA wasn't giving him any attention.

The match itself wasn't bad and the last 5 minutes were really hot. CIMA hit what I presume are his finishers and got the pin on Kendrick.

PWG World Heavyweight Title: Chris Hero (c) vs. "The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

So this is it. For a while, I guess. This wasn't really epic, and it wasn't tremendously emotional. It was someone who is very, very, very good at something doing that something. He's going to go somewhere and do something else, and I hope he'll be good at it. He'll probably be back someday. I'll miss him while he's gone. I don't know. The match was good, very good but not spectacular. He seemed to be making sure to go through everything, the flying headbutt, the cattle mutilation, the knee stomps, the elbows, the other stomps, etc. Hero gave even better than he got and seemed to have the upper hand for most of the way through, busting out his cravates and forearms and whatnot. (Side note: Chris Hero finally appears to be growing into this body and wearing some proper wrestling gear and I couldn't be happier. He really looks good, after so many years of being built like a high school female basketball player.) After about 40-45 minutes of action Dragon got Hero in the crossface chickenwing and to nearly everyone's shock, Hero tapped. I imagine everyone went into this figuring that Dragon would job on his way out, blah blah blah. It was a wonderful, wonderful surprise and everyone jumped up and went crazy.

After the match Dragon gave a short speech and a bunch of wrestlers came out to play tribute. Paul London was there and he had a dolphin balloon for Dragon. (Later Spanky would pop the balloon with some scissors and leave in a huff.) Hero put the belt on Dragon and then Excalibur asked Dragon what he was going to do about the belt, since he couldn't leave with it. Dragon asked the crowd to cheer for who they wanted the belt to go to and after some fun with suggesting that the head referee become the new world champ Dragon thought better of it and decided it would be best if the belt were on the line at the forthcoming Battle of Los Angeles tournament.

At first I thought it was silly that they interrupted Hero's title reign. An uninterrupted title lineage, I figured, was better than the occasional "anything can happen" moment. Then the more I thought about it the more I liked the switch. Hero is the longest reigning champ in PWG history and the crowd had started to turn on him too. Not as bad as the Bucks, but the "same old shit" crowd is there. This is unexpected and it gives the BOLA a bit more spice.

Dragon gave a short farewell, thanking everyone for everything and that was that. I feel like my review is underselling this show. The Doi/Ryan match, the Generico/Shingo match and the Hero/Dragon match were all very, very good. The Lost/Tornado match and the Laree/Von Eerie match were both solid. This is probably the best top-to-bottom PWG show I've been too and though I'm bummed I'll miss Dragon's last ROH match it was good to see him one last time before he goes. We'll miss you, Champ.

Just FYI, PWG has been running at this shit location on and off for three years. In PWG's six year history they have always started late. It's a surprise if they run on time or as they did at Speed of Sound, start a fifteen after eight. Which was amazing.

I'm glad you also dig Scott Lost. I'm hoping they finally start pushing him as a singles star. I'm glad you got to experience Tornado coming out to "I'm on a boat" since he changes up his music from time to time. Maybe it'll finally stick, since the live crowd seems to enjoy it.

Well it happened at DDT 4. I've never been a big fan of the Bucks so I'm happy to see a bulk of the crowd turning on them. At DDT 4, everyone thought "Men of Low Moral Fiber" Kenny Omega & Chuck Taylor beat the Bucks. But the count was 2.999999999. You see in PWG Kenny Omega is over HUGE. Chuck Taylor is also pretty popular but Omega is on another level. When the fans realized what had happened they were disappointed. Almost immediately after the Bucks pinned MOLMF and the crowd was not happy. Now I'd say 70% still hate the Bucks while the Bucks still retain a small but vocal fan base.

I think it was a nice gesture. A thank you to Brian and a way to add more intrigue to BOLA instead of it just churning out a number one contender. To be honest a lot of the newer fans in Reseda have been kind of annoying. They want more flippy movez~! So they have easily turned on Hero. I really dig what Hero was doing with his reign. I wish PWG could run in the Silverlake area again. Better venue with better fans who could actually hold their liquor and actually appreciate some wrestling.

Yes we will. Good luck, Dragon.

The next show will be October 2nd. The only matches signed so far is The Young Bucks (c) vs Kenny Omega & Chuck Taylor (MOLMF).

On the official mini-site for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's 2009 Battle of Los Angeles (http://www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com/2009BOLA/), the final competitor in this year's tournament has been announced! Now, the focus turns to the 2009 Battle of Los Angeles First Round Matches, which will be revealed over the coming weeks starting this Wednesday, November 4!

For those wondering about the status of Chris Hero, as a former Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion he would normally be entitled to a rematch with the individual that defeated him for the title, in this case, "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson. With the special circumstances surrounding Bryan Danielson's departure from Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Chris Hero has been granted a future title match with the next Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion. Rather than gamble with his rematch clause by entering the 2009 Battle of Los Angeles, where he would have to win four matches in order to reclaim the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Championship, Chris Hero has opted out of the tournament and to take his chances in a single match with the new World Champion in 2010.

Tickets for this year's two-day tournament event are on sale at the 2009 Battle of Los Angeles mini-site. Tickets for Night One, Night Two, and Two-Night Passes are all available for purchase at the tournament mini-site. Be sure to order your tickets now in order to guarantee yourself a seat for the annual spectacular known as the Battle of Los Angeles!

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's 2009 Battle of Los Angeles - Night One takes place Friday, November 20, 2009, at 8:00 PM at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla's 2009 Battle of Los Angeles - Night Two takes place Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 8:00 PM at American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, CA. Front Row tickets are $30 per night, and General Admission tickets are $25 per night. Front Row and General Admission Two-Night Passes may be purchased for only $50 (Front Row) and $40 (General Admission).

American Legion Post #308 is located at 7338 Canby Ave., Reseda, CA 91335. Online tickets orders are available through the 2009 Battle of Los Angeles mini-site, and are subject to the PayPal Service Charge (2.9% + $0.30). Tickets purchased in advance allow for priority admittance to the venue, along with guaranteed event seating. Online tickets sales for this event will end on November 17, 2009 at 11:59PM. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door. Video recording devices are not permitted. Card subject to change.

I think this BOLA is kind of a mixed bag. I think PWG could have made some better choices. I'm not crazy about The Young Bucks, Aries, and Cabana being in this tournament. I have no interest in watching the Bucks in singles action. Aries in PWG has been less than exciting since 06. And Cabana is not played out in PWG like he may be elsewhere but he's just had great comedic matches in PWG not wrestling clinics.

Part of the blame does fall on the economy and it was inevitable that they would have a more low wattage BOLA. How could they keep topping themselves as the previous tournaments started becoming so grandiose. So it is sort of understandable.

I'm really hoping to see Shelley face Generico, Omega, and Kendrick. Any of those possible combinations sound sweet.

totally agreed on Cabana and the bucks...Aries I don't mind, because everyone knows he's not gonna pass the first round, and he'll have a good match with whoever beats him.

The best way to get something interesting out of Cabana is going to be pairing him with Generico on night 1. Generico is so good that he can put on a great match (and Cabana is certainly capable of it in every regard), AND still have the match be a comedy-style affair.

Man, that's gonna be an interesting first night....

Another nice idea would be to have the main event of night 1 be a tag match between the young bucks and Steenerico, with the winners advancing to night 1 to face one another.

There are so many ways this tourney could go now...NO hero, which just means there WILL be a new champ.

I'm calling Lost Vs. Strong in the finals. I'd love that, because no matter what, i would be down for whoever won, because both are awesome.

BUUUUUTTT...if I had to pick one, it'd be Lost.

Yes, really.

If I were PWG, I'd have two tag matches in round 1:

Young Bucks vs. Steen & Generico
Machine Guns vs. Aries & Strong

I don't think Aries & Strong have feuded in PWG, so I think it can work. That's two awesome tag matches, and it would really give this BOLA a nice little place in the BOLA history.

The other 4 first round losers can have a 4-way spotfest on night 2 as well, meaning no 8-man tag. Those are always fun in PWG, but the tag & 4-way would be equally as fun, IMO.

Sorry mate. But I beg Aries to just give me a little bit of work rate. I do agree the character has been good and let's him stand out. I like it better than when he was working out here as Austin Starr. But other than his match against Jay Briscoe at DDT 4 08, the guy hasn't really stood out in PWG. Aries has been guilty of coasting out here and just enjoying our famous "state plant." Prove me wrong Aries! Work hard!

folby, I do enjoy your posts. Do you think you could share some of your thoughts and what not on the PWG board? The glory days of that board are gone but it'd be nice to get some more activity going. By the way, who are you putting your money on? Who do you think is going to walk away as the new World Champ?

I'll take my last post further, and post my line-up...

Night 1

First Round:
Jerome Robinson vs. Brandon Gatson
Scott Lost vs. Colt Cabana
The Young Bucks vs. El Generico & Kevin Steen
Brian Kendrick vs. Human Tornado
Joey Ryan vs. Kenny Omega
Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin vs. Austin Aries & Roderick Strong

Night 2

Quarterfinals:
Robinson vs. Lost
Tornado vs. Omega
Aries & Strong vs. The Young Bucks

Non-Tournament 4-Way Spotfest:
Gatson vs. Cabana vs. Kendrick vs. Ryan
Give the win to Kendrick

Semifinals:
Aries vs. Strong
Lost vs. Omega

Non-Tournament:
Machine Guns vs. Steen & Generico
Give the win to the Guns since Steen & Generico aren't likely to be a regular team in PWG

Finals:
Strong vs. Lost
I think this match is perfect for the finals. Strong has been on a roll, and IMO would make the best champ for PWG. Lost would be elevated, and would likely be the next champ after feuding with Strong.

Winner & New PWG World Champion: Roderick Strong

Well G-B, get ready to tweak your first round predictions. Because the very first, first round match has been announced. It's...

Kevin Steen Vs Kenny Omega

An interesting first round match. I really thought both competitors would advance to the second round. Hopefully Steen will return to his heel ways. Steen was awesome as a heel in 05. Right now Omega is just a bulletproof baby face, so it would be more entertaining to see them go at it as heel vs face.

My guess is Steen loses then spends the rest of the weekend with his family. Omega has to go far this year. I just hope that once Omega is done with Steen he tells him to "Go home and be a family man!"
