OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: RAW (June 14, 2010)

OO Nation: All discussion pertaining to RAW (airing June 14, 2010) should be done in this thread. It will remain pinned at the top of the Current Events section for the remainder of the week. In discussing the program, we'd love it if you shared your numerical rating for the show (from a low of 0.0 to a high of 5.0, in any increment of one-tenth of a point). For full details on the ratings scale and how to join in on this informal "Battle of the Brands," please be sure to check out the OOfficial Guidelines for TV Ratings/Discussion Threads.

Tonight on RAW: the big issue will be fall-out from last week's NXT "invasion"... the rookies will explain themselves, presumably, and from that mission statement, we'll move towards whatever the next step in their diabolical plot might be... in the short term, one might suspect they will get their "leader," Wade Barrett, a spot in the Fatal Fourway WWE Title Match (as it's about damned time RAW give up on the charade of Randy Orton being healthy enough to compete at the PPV)... but longer term plans and other members/associates of the group may also be revealed (many are curious as to why Michael Cole got off scot free last week, for instance, and already some have theorized that Barrett's NXT Mentor Chris Jericho might have a hand in this, somehow)... and while other associated personalities might be revealed, the nxtWo will also have to deal with the sudden disappearance (due to firing) of the clear-cut #2 Man on the NXT Totem Pole, Dan Bryan; Bryan was released last week due to daring to do something vaguely compelling or interesting on WWE programming, which we all know is a no-no...

Everything else on RAW takes a backseat to the NXT stuff... but just in case WWE does manage to shit the bed extra-messy with their unexpectedly well-received piece of random hotshot booking, the few other things to keep an eye on include: Cena was the target of the NXT guys, but he's still involved in that 4-way PPV title defense, so he'll ALSO be mingling with Edge and Sheamus (and whoever replaces Orton)... Unified Tag Champs the Hart Dynasty are clearly headed for a showdown against another next-gen clan, the Usos... US Champ R-Truth could be due for another title defense against The Miz, or could also find himself as a target of the NXT Gang (as his rookie was David Otunga, and the two never really saw eye-to-eye)... Eve is still the Diva Champ, and Maryse is still none too happy about that, and *I* am none too happy that Gail Kim is practically invisible lately despite being the aweseomest of the lot of them... the burgeoning partnership of Santino and Vlad Kozlov should be good for a few yucks after last week's genuinely amusing dance-off... the on-going build-up of Ted DiBiase Jr. oughta continue this week, again predicated on how well he is after a concussion suffered 3 weeks ago... apparently, the reason Johnny Morrison was MIA for so long was due to a lingering ankle injury, but he's better now, so hopefully they'll find something to do with him... 2 weeks ago, Evan Bourne was scoring the pinfall win in a main event tag match against Edge/Sheamus; last week, he was barely even on the show; which version of WWE's schizophrenic Writer Monkey Booking Plans will be in place for Evan this week?...

Bret Hart is your For Realz General Manager, per usual, and this week's Guest Figurehead Host is some guy from some show on USA Network (you've heard of neither, unless you have no life and no DVR, and thus, have either actually watched the show or at least been forced to sit through ads for it during RAW)... I don't know if it's confirmed by WWE or not, but last I heard, they were planning on having Big Show come over from SD as guest co-host, since he's doing a cameo on whatever that USA Network show is at some point later this month, so at least that oughta be fun...

The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Let your voice be heard and your thoughts on Brand Supremacy be known. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

Will the secondary titles (U.S., Intercontinental) be 4 ways also?

If so, for the U.S., maybe Truth, Miz, Morrison and Bourne could compete.

Much as I hate them, you can't fully blame the writers for this. It was "Viewer's Choice" and those idiots picked Kane over Bourne to fight Sheamus. And I think that will be the end to Bourne's push because the one sane writermonkey who suggests pushing him will get shot down by all the morons who say "that vote last week proved that no one cares about Bourne. Let's give his push to Chris Masters!"

Any chance that the Charlotte NC crowd will give a "We want Bryan" or the like chant tonight?

Charlotte NC tonight, SD is in Raleigh tomorrow.

Next week Raw is in Bridgeport Ct, with SD! in Manchester NH.

Best chance for fan support might be the 28th as Raw is from Philly, with SD from Wilkes-Barre.

As a Charlotte resident, I can say that the crowds at WWE events here are usually pretty mark heavy, so I'm not getting my hopes up. Though I would be pleasantly surprised if they did.

I'm back (Part 2)

Ive been a wrestling fan off-and-on for 17 years. 7 months ago I was so tired of the stale, safe, boring shows that I decided to take break. I gave up TNA and WWE cold turkey. About this time I also gained access to HDNet for the first time. And so for the next 7 months, the only show I watched was RoH. At first, I found RoH to be incredibly refreshing and fun. Here was wrestling, pure wrestling. Here were matches that built organically and told a story. Here were matches where the match itself was the focal point. It wasnt just a forum to build to a PPV. The goal was to win! Imagine that, a wrestling company where winning and losing matches was the wrestlers goal.

But before too long, the weaknesses of RoH seemed to shine through.
Austin Aries and Tyler Black cant cut a promo or connect with the audience to save their life.
The Kings of Wrestling have negative charisma.
Necro Butcher is the guy in the wrestler movie and I really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but his feud with Prince Nanas crew has to be one of the worst feuds Ive ever seen. Its patently un-watchable.
El Generico and Delirious looks like theyd be fun cruiserweights, but they arent.

Steve Corino is fantastic, and should easily be a manger in the big leagues, but I honestly could do without ever seeing his girdle underwear again. By the way, heres some more Steve Corino gold tonight. Heres the list of people Steve hates:

K. Reeves
JD Drew
Chipper Jones
Coat Check Guy in Helsinki
All Waffle House Waitresses
Brian Christopher
Billy Mays Dead 2009, Check
Colt Cabana

I also happen to like Kevin Steen, possibly by association, or possibly because of his corner splash move.

Colt Cabana tends to waffle between un-watchable and brilliant in my eyes. He has very unique stuff in him, but it doesnt always work.

And in the end, theres only one wrestler in RoH who I actually enjoy watching. Thats Davey Richards. Richards isnt great, but hes pretty good at just about everything. Hes also the classic short wrestler who cant get a job with the big guys.

About 3 months ago, I logged onto OO and couldnt believe what I missed. A new Monday Night War? RVD as TNA champ? Scott Hall showing up for work as scheduled? But I quickly decided that I still didnt care.

Now, only with summer here and literally nothing else on my DVR, I decided to give TNA and the WWE another chance. Last Thursday I shared some thoughts on Impact. Tonight Ill do the same for Raw.

It's 50-50 at best that they don't screw this up tonight.

Sadly, I think the real odds are like 90-10 they mess it up.

Fingers are crossed that Cole and Jericho are not involved with this, and it's somehow different from NWO.

So Danielson was written out by saying unlike the other seven, he felt remorse for their actions last week so Barrett got rid of him.

Just a brutal way to explain Danielson, but I guess it leaves the door wide open for a return down the road.

I have to add: wtf is with the NXT guys coming dressed in ring gear through the crowd? They don't have contracts... did they buy tickets and change in the bathrooms before coming to the ring? Did they come dressed or change in the parking lot?

Just nonsense.

TMST, obviously they were wearing their gear under their clothes. Also, they were wearing masks so that nobody in security would recognize the people who just destroyed the ring.

Actually, Barrett's explanation for Danielson's absence is probably good as it'll allow Danielson to come back as a face. I have to say though, I really enjoyed the little bit of ruthlessness I saw last week. You know, the ruthlessness that got his ass fired.

So last week Orton had to wrestle in a sling, and in the process was hit in the arm/shoulder multiple times, yet he isn't wearing a sling THIS week. Apparently he's healing a lot faster than he did when he first got called up to RAW.

I don't think Orton will need to worry about his match, NXT will be all over him.

One has to assume the Otunga mic spot would have been Danielsons. Otunga is shite on the mic, there is nothing behind what he's supposed to be saying, just words being regurgitated. Also in both last nights beat down and the opening segment tonight Otunga seems to fade into the background, doesn't have near the jump-off-the-screen charisma that he's said to have.

I have no problem with the NXT guys wearing their gear. I guess its an intimidation thing. Its a "uniform". Whatever.

I don't have any real problem with how they explained Bryan out.

I have a major problem with heels like Sheamus, Edge, and Orton (for all intents and purposes) giving enough of a fuck to come out and put aside rivalries. Why? Seriously, why should I believe they did enough to upset those guys? I was annoyed when the faces united with the heels on NXt, but those were midcarders. Now you have your top heels putting aside feuds to stand up against the threat of 7 nobodies who beat up John Cena and some crew. Why?

I'd have a problem with them effectively neutering NXT in 1 week by showing that the WWE locker room was united against them and they were fires so they posed no true threat... except I guess it means I no longer have to give a shit about the story.

It was a fun few days.

Yeah, the wwe basically fucked up the storyline in one week. There is no reason for Sheamus to side with Cena against the evil "rookies" for desecrating the sacred ring. That's right up there with Orton pissed at Sheamus because he attacked HHH from behind. WWE shoehorns in the most ridiculous storylines that have no relation to even recent history anymore. It's all about telling the current story at the current moment.

If it was Cena, Sydal and a few other faces without the heels giving a damn it would give the NXT kids a chance.

Unless they beat the piss out of the main event tonight, the angle is lost. Even with that, it's basically shit.

Sounds like they managed to screw it up faster than I figured. Still, I have a feeling I know how they keep people interested for one more week: bring out Season 2 to side with Season 1. Or they're just done with it and will try to keep it going next week.

You know, you look at stuff like this and wonder: was it really Vince's ego that killed the Invasion angle or have they just been completely retarded for the longest time and we're just now noticing it?

Flaming manimal. You dont need to know all this. But you know, every time I log into the forum, it is the same thing. Oh, this is terrible. Oh thats terrible. I just wanted to see if my comments would look different after 7 months away.

-Other than Wade Barrett who is a little taller, these guys all look to be about the same height and build. Still, this has promise.

-Hey, Bret Harts back too. A lot happens in 7 months. The Hitman doesnt look great, but I dont care. Hes still the best there ever will be.

-Ok, so here is the explanation. We issued a brutal beating to John Cena because we want our own locker-room. Priceless. Look, some people could pull that line off. Mick Foley could probably use that motivation and sell a match. But this NXT guy just comes across as whiny. Whiny is fine. But is whiny the follow-up to a vicious beating? I dont get it.

- That kid really marked out for John Morrisons glasses. Hes not going to live that down in five years.

-Yep, there is the first match high spot and commercial break. The more things change, the more things

-I like how R-truth gets his foot caught on the rope, and presumably lands on his face outside the ring, and nobody sells this like a big spot.

-Isnt there a statute of limitations on mentioning that Miz and Morrison are former tag team partners?

-Hmm, how would Joey Styles put it, A bit of a glancing blow their by Morrison, but R-truth was still stunned from the earlier action. Oh, man, it doesnt look any better on replay.

After 7 months, I still cant bring myself to watch a Randy Orton promo. FF-ing.

Does anyone have a historical list of wrestlers who have held the Million Dollar Belt?

Lawler I dont think Jericho has ever lost 2 weeks in a row on Raw. BWHAHAHAHA

-OK, nice little brawl here between the NXT guys and the WWE guys. I love the red-haired guy who shoves Mark Henry. Ladies and gentleman, Mark Henry running. Be very afraid. Im also going to say that if Santino chases you out of the arena, your angle is over.

-The worm! And there goes Virgils credibility. Oh wait.

This could actually probably be saved if a bunch of the RAW guys turn or NXT has reinforcements that make them a threat again before RAW ends.

hbksbackinjury, the people who have held the million dollar belt are:
Ted DiBiase
Virgil
Steve Austin (as Ringmaster)
Ted DiBiase, Jr

Have you noticed that in every group of people there is a guy who just knows shit? He has no explanation for how he knows it or any reason to know it, he just knows shit. Be careful around that guy, he is thinking of ways to kill you.

After the "initiation," wouldn't be too hard to imagine Season 2 Rookies quickly siding with the Season 1 nxt folks.

Was Bret supposed to be crying? Why do I get a (sinking) feeling that in a short while - i.e. after Linda's campaign ends - that we'll see HHH, Vince, Steph and probably Shane-O come back to regain control. "Teddy, Bret, you let my shows go to hell... you're both ... FIIIIIRREEDD!!"
