Fantasy Baseball 2011
Spring Training has begun in earnest, and as if by magic: Yahoo has launched Fantasy Baseball for this year... so I figured I'd pop in here and
nudge everybody to start thinking about it.
Not only in terms of whether we'll have an OO league (and how many might play), but more importantly: what to do about the conspicuous absence
of Lucky (since he's our commish, and only he can set up a league that retains our history). It'll be a less cut-and-dry deal than in
years past, so we might as well start puzzling it out early.
Talk, converse, pontificate, debate, opine, and discuss yer asses off....

I found an email address for him ... If someone wants to shoot one to him ... if that hasn't been tried a hundred times already ...
[email protected]
Plus, I'm sure he'll get a reminder to fire up the league as commissioner ... I get one when football season rolls around, unless of
course that's his "spam" email account ... If he can be contacted, he could bequeath commissioner powers to someone else ... and of course
reveal where he's been hiding ...

The champ is here.
And hoping there's a 2011 season. I liked everything about last season - format, number of teams, stats, and so forth. I've usually
played roto, but H2H was alright.

I'll play again if you guys set up a league. My goal this year is to NOT get horribly frustrated and give up the first week. Also I'm
gonna try to NOT forget when the draft* is so don't get stuck with the equivalent of Jay "Fucking" Cutler in a prominent position.
*Nevermind, I'm blaming that on whoever set the football draft to Labor Day weekend.

Pretty sure Lucky's still locked up, so waiting for him to start Fantasy Baseball will end in disappointment. I considered starting a temporary
league, but between my team being the Cubs and the fact I'm potentially starting a full time job with hours spanning between 1pm to midnight,
yeah, I may take baseball season off this year.

I'm definitely taking a year breather. I've historically been pretty bad at fantasy baseball compared to football/hockey but last year was
the pits. I'm in my keeper league and that's it.

If there is an extra spot left, I'd be more than willing to be in the league. None of my buddies from fantasy football play fan. baseball, so
I'm always looking for a competitive league.

First let me put on my OO League of Fantasy Football Commissioner t-shirt: Columbo, I'll tell you what, how about you pick a weekend now for the
fantasy football draft this next season, and when the time comes, I'll be sure to set a different weekend ...
In fact, let me know what weekend you're free and I'll be sure that's not the weekend of the fantasy draft ...
If this were a paying league, I'd fine you $5 for being critical of the commissioner in public ... Instead, you'll just be condemned to
have a lousy team ...
Back to the topic: I don't think its going to be a problem filling up the league its just a matter of someone starting one ...

I know I ask this every year, but would anyone be willing to put some money down this time around?

You dudes should try an auction league format if it's a redraft.

I was wondering about this league and the Lucky reprecussions...glad to see were still talking about it.
I'll be in as well...also willing to help make the league again or whatever if needed.
As for the auction...I'm interested in doing one of those, but with the amount of players taken in the drafts we usually do, I don't think
I'd want to sit through it that long, not to mention, with something like 500 players being taken (20 teams/25 players if I remember correctly)
we'd have to sit through a lot of bidding before filling up each team/bidding strategy for those that have never done it will be crazy.
Anyway...if whoever makes the league could send out a PM to me and others whenever the league goes up, that would be great...I wouldn't want to
be left out. Thanks!

I U2Ued Rick over the weekend. He said basically that we'll give it a week and see if Lucky magically appears or renews the league on his own,
so we can keep the history intact. If not, he'll make a new one on his own.
So no worries, we'll have an OO league...just not sure in what form quite yet. I'd say check back Monday.

Still no word from Lucky; guess we better start thinking about doing this on our own. [Anybody with Preferred/Real Life Access to Lucky, please give
him a nudge from us...]
Even though we'll lose our history, we can keep the scoring format. Or we can change it. Whatever everybody wants to do. I hadn't done
head-to-head until 2 seasons ago, but it's grown on me as an entertaining change-up to the other 4-5 leagues I'll be in, so I can go
either way. Speak your peace, so we can settle -- up front -- whether we want to just keep the old system, or do it differently. When opining,
remember that we'll probably have 20-something teams, which changes the playing field a bit.
Then we just need to set up the league. I'm already commish'ing two leagues (a real/serious one, and an experimental one with a brand new
wacky scoring system of my own devising using Yahoo's weighted points option), so if somebody else wants to take command, that'd be dandy
with me. Declare your intent, or otherwise, I'll take care of things...
Either way, let's just give it a few final days to see if Lucky emerges to keep us hooked up with our historical league. If not, we can burst
into action early next week.

Yeah, I'd be fine with taking over the commissioner role if needed. If someone who's been around here longer than me that is more
identifiable with the boards/has a better chance of being around here for a long time in to the future would like to do it instead, that would make
most sense.
In any way even if I make it, and in case Lucky never returns....if the option exists, I think we should try to have duel-commissioners...at least
2-3, not so much as to have many people in charge, but just have more options in case someone gets lost one year, to be able to renew the league for
everyone else in the future.
Anywho...I'd vote for keeping the rules the same since its what most of us have done in the league for the past few years and its good to see
how people get better or worse on the same terms. I really liked the change to 4 divisions last year as well...but that's one I'd be fine
changing if others are against it.

If there are no objections (and there are none from me), the Commissionership is yours to take, SKid. Now, don't fuck it up by picking a draft
time that sucks for me, Junior!
FWIW, Yahoo does allow co-managers for teams, but I don't think co-Commish is something you can do; you can transfer the Commish title to
whoever you want, but I don't think you can go halvsies on the job.
Just as a refresher (and an FYI for anybody new who's thinking about signing up this year): the set-up is a 7x7 head-to-head league, where
it's the standard 5 roto categories plus K and OPS for batters, and plus L and HLD for pitchers. Divisional alignments are a function of the
number of teams; last year, we maxed out at 20 teams (which is divisible by both 2 and by 4), so we tried 4 divisions for the first time.
See you in Fantasyland....

Cool.
Gonna take care of this sometime during Raw...if anyone has any suggestions for good nights next week that can work for them or the amount of
divisions you would like to have in the league (also will need suggestions for division names)
At the moment I'm going to see if Wednesday is available based on last year's date we picked (hopefully alright for you Rick) and 4
divisions.
I'll edit this post once I have the information for everyone.

Wednesday's actually the only night next week that I can't do (last Wednesday of the month is Poker Night for The Rick and his band of
dirtbags). Heh.
Other than that, I'm pretty easy, though. I prefer having my Mondays free, especially the last Monday before WM with the Rock and everything,
but I also know how to operate a DVR. So long as we can do not-Wednesday, whatever works best for everybody else is fine with me; I'm also
always down with drafting a day or two after Opening Day if there's a desire to draft Thursday night or over the weekend or whatever... the loss
of 2 games worth of stats is nothing compared to everybody getting a chance to draft live, instead of getting picks made by Yahoo's dumdum
logic.

OO Baseball 2011
League ID# 172762
Password: onslaught
The draft is set for next Tuesday March 29th at 9:00 PM EST
It's a 20 team league as usual, so all are free to join until it fills up. If you join, it would probably be best to leave a message here just
saying you did so we have a good idea of who is in it in case the email addresses do not matchup.
Settings are all the same from last year...I created a custom league address as well so that if Lucky does not return, we can just keep this league
going and retain the stats for now on.
So please join and see you at the draft.
EDIT:
It actually turns out that I can add the history of any league to the new league...so the OO stats from 2010/2009/2008 are now included...from there
on, I'm not sure what the league was called each of the previous years, so I haven't added it yet...if anyone knows, I can check the list
and add it there too.
EDIT 2:
We now have the histories of the league listed since what seems to be the beginning in 2003.

Ugh, I'm in. I didn't want to be in more than my 2 mandatory leagues this year (it turns out I am just horrible at fantasy baseball,
especially as compared to football) but you want 20 teams, so might as well fill it out.

Is there ANY chance at all you can move up that starting time? Not whining, but I work nights that week, and I'd have to check out around 11
EST.
