OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: RAW (August 29, 2011)
OO Nation: All discussion pertaining to RAW (airing August 22, 2011) should be done in this thread. It will remain pinned at the top of the
Current Events section for the remainder of the week. In discussing the program, we'd love it if you shared your numerical rating for
the show (from a low of 0.0 to a high of 5.0, in any increment of one-tenth of a point). For full details on the ratings scale and how to join in on
this informal "Battle of the Brands," please be sure to check out the OOfficial
Guidelines for TV Ratings/Discussion Threads.
Tonight on RAW: absolutely nothing has been officially announced... it's almost like WWE wants you to pay attention to tomorrow's
"Super SmackDown," instead, what with all it's pre-announced matches, and being live, and stuff... but that doesn't seem like WWE...
caring about SD, all while RAW's ratings have declined each of the past 2 weeks (to sub-3.0 levels last week)? That dog won't hunt,
monsignor...
But I think we can safely assume all pre-existing storylines will be nudged forward towards the Night of Champions PPV, as WWE has show ratings
patience so far since the late spring paradigm shift with regards to creative... to that end, I expect Triple H to address the WWE Title picture, in
which John Cena currently stands as the #1 Contender to Alberto del Rio, but only thanks to Johnny Funkhauser stealing control of last week's
RAW to allow Kevin Nash to interfere in the main event... that will not sit well with CM Punk, who should have been the #1 Contender anyway, and
who's now been cheated out of his rematch a second time... my hope is that HHH (still claiming TXT Innocence, and trying to "be the good guy"
with Punk) inserts Punk into the PPV Title match, creating a three-way... for one, I see no need to rush Punk/Nash (which should be a one-time special
attraction, not something that materializes in 28 days), and for two, if the PPV is called "Night of Champions," Punk should be in a Championship
Match...
Mystery and drama surrounding Nash, HHH, Ace, texting, and whatnot can and should continue (hopefully in an interesting fashion), but the basic
take-away from tonight should be that it's now del Rio vs. Cena vs. Punk jockeying for the WWE Title... I really liked the chemistry there last
week, as -- for as much as Cena and Punk have battled their asses off -- Punk and Johnboy could at least agree on one thing: not like Alberto... poor,
poor Alberto...
Elsewhere: it seems like Tag Wrestling is back, and no happier man you'll find than me... Otunga/McGuillicutty are certain due a rematch (and as
good as they've looked the past few times out, I'd be fine with it being a nice 12-15 minute anchor match tonight), but just don't
have the sizzle to regain the titles or justify a PPV match... so I fully expect Kofi/Bourne (Air Dread) to cross paths, sooner than later, with The
Awesome Truth (Miz/Truth), to set them up for a rock solid PPV match at NoC... the US Title picture is a bit murkier because (1) fans just don't
seem to give a shit about Dolph Ziggler and (2) what heat he does have tends to come from Vickie Guerrero, so (3) now that there's a storyline
in which Vickie may be seeking out other clients (and Dolph may not be happy about it), which means (4) if there's ANY part of this story where
the fans are expected to give a shit about Dolph as a babyface (opposing Vickie) when they don't even give a shit about him as a heel, it will
die a horrible death... [and honestly: you can't turn Dolph. Not just for common sense reasons. You also can't expect him to change his
twitter name.]... as it stands, Jack Swagger's the one angling to get Vickie as a manager, so he's in the US Title hunt as the heel if
Dolph/Vickie split; and Alex Riley is in the hunt as a babyface (with a non-title win over Dolph) if they stay on the more traditional path... some
combination of those three seem poised to be the US Title match at NoC... and Kelly Kelly is still the precious little barbie doll of a women's
champ, and one has to assume she'll be defending at the PPV against either Beth Phoenix or Nattie Neidhart, who -- one of these weeks -- are
bound to actually DO SOMETHING, other than just standing around looking like fresh-out-of-a-make-up-chair barbie dolls themselves...
RAW did a very nice show last week with (what seemed like) a limited number of performers, so I think it's entirely possible for them to do it
again this week, just focusing on 4 title matches and the accompanying drama... meantime, I get my last bit of Reds Drama tonight (before my
traditional September 1 switch-over to being a Yankees fan, as is my wont): Yonder Alonso at 3rd Base? Ay carumba... but hey: at least that means
I'll see at least one trainwreck tonight even worse than Kevin Nash attempting to cut a promo without a script...
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Let your voice be heard and your thoughts on Brand Supremacy be known. Don't wait till after 11pm to post,
either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

Aren't Smackdown guys supposed to be at Raw?
Wouldn't it make sense to build to tomorrow by throwing a tag match with Cena & Orton Vs ADR & Christian?
That alone allows Punk to interject claiming an undeserved right to the title match
(anyone who falls for the no contact interruption does not deserve a WWE title match)
They could even make it a 6 man with Punk & Mark Henry added.
I've a worrying belief Punk gets his second non-title match @ Night of the Champions but I still maintain X-pac makes a more interesting
wrestler to face Punk whilst still continuing the HHH "guys" storyline.
I really hope they decide Swagger & Riley don't need to face each other again.
How about Morrison to face Ziggler at the PPV how else is he getting a match? Maybe have him round out the 4 way and then the Swagger - Vickie story
could develop...
I'd hope they give Miz & Truth a match before the title match, maybe a post match attack of Bourne & Kingston could play into the "we're
taking our opportunities" though a win over Santino & Ryder after last week might make sense.
What odds the cage is used to tease tomorrow?

Odds of the cage being used today are probably lower than the odds that Mark Henry rips the door off the cage tomorrow.

Nash is using the nWo music. Awesome.
Guess they have to 'remind' the current WWE Universe why he's important...

I'm guessing he was saying "game," but am I the only one who thought it sounded like Cole said "what a gay Dolph Ziggler?" Freudian slip,
subtle rib, or too much wax in my ears? Never heard the "m".
Yay, super serious Cena is totally back.

So can we just call a spade a spade and say that WWE has officially killed the awesome heat and character CM Punk built over the summer by:
1) Moving him from a red-hot title feud into one with a semi-retired/borderline-cripple?
2) Having him hit the same note every week about HHH having no balls and Steph wearing the pants, etc?
3) Making him look like a fucking moron for thinking HHH is behind everything despite the fact that he obviously isn't?
4) Making him sound like a whiny crybaby?
I hate Cena but at least his character will take a loss and move on to do what he has to do. I'm not sure who is more to blame for this, WWE or
CM Punk, but the shine has definitely worn off since he began his great feud with Cena just a couple of months ago. It's almost as if WWE has
absolutely no idea what made it or the CM Punk character compelling to begin with so they're just doing the exact same thing every week. Instead
of giving him consistent character traits, they are having him repeat the exact same things instead and it's really starting to fall flat for
me.
And now super-wigger is out to act like a stupid jackass, good thing he's in a main event title feud again. So much for shaking up the status
quo.

Cena never accepts a loss. He either A) whines about it until he gets a rematch & wins, or B) moves on ahead of the person that beat him, no matter
how little sense it makes.

So ... are we witnessing the beginning of the end of the brand split? According to Cole, this "Super Stow(sic)" concept for Raw is continuing "for
the foreseeable future."
As someone who's hated the split from the very beginning, I can only hope this will come to pass.

The lack of interest from the crowd for Punk-Miz is a bit disconcerting. Though much of that may be due to reasons Dudelove outlined above regarding
Punk.
Though I don't think HHH is innocent and I think they're building all of this up to Punk being right about everything all along.

I am just saying he doesn't harp on the same point every week. He does end up going over in the end pretty much every time but doesn't
make excuses when he loses... at least at first anyway.
You know how reliable that coked-up sack of gay is.

Punk SUCKS as a face. His playing to the crowd is nauseating. That's why he's losing fans - he's kissing babies. He's
Cena-lite with his playing to the crowd.

Why is HHH only interested in making Raw good? Shouldn't the WWE COO care about Smackdown too?

Wow, Bruce Dern AND Michael Rapaport? Holy smokes. and trailer wasn't even too bad until the end when they had to cram in the names of those
A-listers.
So Punk is going to prove he can best Nash by beating Khali tomorrow? How exciting.

In an interview linked on the boards a little while ago, Punk revealed that there's a face bus and a heel bus and he actually said you'd
never catch him on the face bus.
But he seems to be playing to the crowd now, which is face kind of thing. And I think I saw more white shirts than red in the crowd tonight...
Anyone know which bus Punk is riding these days?

OMG Nash/Punk is going to SUCK!!! Oh wait, it's not happening.
I guess even the WWE realized that was a bad idea. Triple H/Punk has about 100 times more potential to deliver on PPV, even if Triple H's last
match was at WrestleMania. I'm kind of surprised they're already doing it at Night Of Champions though, as Survivor Series seems like it
would be a better time. And the (kinda) end of the brand split is interesting. I'm all for it, as it allows for fresh match ups and
interactions.
And as someone mentioned last week, WWE is in danger of becoming TNA with Triple H opening the show every week. I won't say I'm tired of
it just yet, but a couple of more episodes...yeah.

HHH/Punk will be light years better than Nash/Punk, but that still doesn't mean it will be any good.
The only way it is good is if HHH jobs clean, and I don't see that happening. I hope I am wrong though.

It was mentioned in chat...something had to have happened backstage between the powerbomb and the end of the show for that change to happen. Either
Nash tore both his quads or they realized he was completely bombed. There's no way the plan after building the forst hour of the show with Nash
vs Punk that they changed it for no reason.

^Survivor Series is rumored to have Team HHH vs Team Punk.
Brand split is dead - not good for business in the long run, but wwe is more worried about ratings falling below 3.0 now.
I hope Ziggler is turning face, even if it is by default when Vickie picks Swagger over him and costs him the title or something. I think he's
ready for a face run, he's one of the best sellers in the company which is a good skill for faces to have. He needs a new finsher though, the
ZigZag sucks.
I remember Eddie Guerrero.

I stopped watching after they said Punk vs. Nash at NoC. I am not interested in the over-the-top soap opera cheese they are serving with this story
now. And I have no interest in seeing Nash work in the ring. Especially after walking out to the ring like Frankenstein's monster, and gingerly
climbing thru the ropes.

I was thinking this as well. They hotshotted Punk vs HHH when that could be a WM type match. Nash was high as shit in the opening promo but why go
through with the powerbomb spot?
Will be a shame if they blew off the super hot Cena vs Punk because they had a rad storyline involving Nash and he pulls a Scott Hall.
