OOfficial Ratings/Discussion Thread for: RAW (September 19, 2011)

OO Nation: All discussion pertaining to RAW (airing September 19, 2011) should be done in this thread. It will remain pinned at the top of the Current Events section for the remainder of the week. In discussing the program, we'd love it if you shared your numerical rating for the show (from a low of 0.0 to a high of 5.0, in any increment of one-tenth of a point). For full details on the ratings scale and how to join in on this informal "Battle of the Brands," please be sure to check out the OOfficial Guidelines for TV Ratings/Discussion Threads.

Tonight on RAW: I have been the victim of a poisoned chili dog, and have spent the past 24 hours (and counting) wishing for the sweet, soothing embrace of death... I didn't bother watching NoC last night, and I can't say as that my #1 priority right now is RAW... while I wallow in various tract-related agonies, I'll trust you bastards can handle yourselves talking about RAW this afternoon and evening...

The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Let your voice be heard and your thoughts on Brand Supremacy be known. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

Big doubleheader at Fenway today/tonight. If the Red Sox are going to stop their slide and keep the Wild Card, they'll need to at least get a split from the Orioles. 6-5 Baltimore heading into the bottom of the 9th of game 1, game 2 is scheduled for 8:05 EST.

Rams and Giants tonight on MNF, can't see that being as good, but if football's your thing go nuts.

If the number one contender by the end of the night is a giant, boxing robot, I think we can safely say that the WWE has made proper use of one of its guest hosts.

I think we're all hoping for a contemporary version of this with Cena in the Sting role

From the updated DVR listings in the UK, tonights Raw comes to you with 100% LESS MICHAEL COLE!!!

I thought they may leave it as JR & King, but apparently Josh Matthews will join them. Lets see how that works (I'm guessing 100* better).

That's all. Only this and one other Raw before HIAC, so they will get a wiggle on with announcing matches tonight.

I hate announcer angles, but I think it'd be really funny, since he's close buddies with Miz, if Cole came out next week and claimed has laryngitis was part of a great conspiracy between HHH and JR to get him off TV. Somebody laced his diet soda with frog sweat or something. High-sterical.

Since Cole just did the pre-show deal during NCIS, I think we can label that report "false". I'm also positive that, unless WWE does something pretty clever here, they've officially fucked up the storyline with the biggest potential in a while.

I can't help but be amused hearing someone yell "AGAIN!" and "GET MICHAEL COLE!" after that. I'm also not sure if I should have enjoyed that segment, but I kind of did.

I would bet Uncle Fargas's Lucky Green Testicle that the Awesome Truth firing is a set-up by Johnny Ace.

HHH said he would get to the bottom of the shenanigans, and someone would be fired. So I guess that Johnny Ace set-up Miz & Truth to make it look like they were conspiring to oust HHH. Hence their firing.

Now as to why the WWE writer monkey's are totally screwing up this storyline every which way to Sunday, I have no idea.

I did love the guy yelling "Get Cole" to Mark Henry tho'!

Great Raw! Jackman was brilliant, really got into the spirit of things, and Ryder was clearly having the time of his life. And Ziggler and Swagger actually have a storyline that develops.

Henry vs Commentators was tremendous. "Pass out! I'm gonna pass out!"

The four-on-four was pretty bland and a missed opportunity (I hoped for more emphasis on the Nexus reunion), but it was a good showcase for Sheamus. And Air Boom's matching gear is still superb.

Punk was a lot better tonight when he wasn't doing the whole "lol bodybuilder fetish, ice cream bars" smark-pandering stuff. I liked the movement towards either an uneasy alliance or a swerve turn. I think I'd prefer a Punk vs HHH cell match rather than a triple threat for the title, though.

Morrison tapped like a bitch in what must be a motivational tool to make him... Well, make him stop being a bitch. The guy has so many of the qualities needed to be a star, it'd be fantastic if he got his head on right.

The "Divas of Doom" essentially being clueless losers like Michael Tarver or Planet Stasiak is hilarious.

The main event, and everything involving Miz and Truth, was awesome. I love the prospect of these two as outsiders. The ending with everyone ganging up to throw them out was weird, but fun. Looking forward to seeing what they do next week.

The Sin Cara stuff kinda sucked, though, apart from a couple of the counters. And there's a chance this whole conspiracy thing could end up like Lost, never resolving anything.

"Look over there!!!"

That was my impression of the writer monkeys trying to dig themselves out of the Punk/HHH storyline that they botched to holy hell.

Now instead of asking who is screwing with Punk and H, we are all deeply rooted in the "Why are Miz/Truth fired?" Brilliant stuff.

I actually somewhat agree with FistHiccups, which is a first. I don't think Raw was great tonight, but it was a pretty big step above the last several. They clearly have no idea what they're doing with this conspiracy angle, but God bless 'em, they're trying.

There was forward progression with the Vickie/Ziggler/Swagger plot, so that's a good thing.

Jackman was clearly enjoying himself, which was really nice to see, and Zack Ryder!!!

I'm alright with the Sin Cara angle, but one of them needs to change up the ring gear. Also, the crowd was into it until they got physical and botched a move and then... crickets. So I'm not sure how the in-ring payoff to this is going to go.

So yeah, overall it was probably an episode that I'd normally classify as "passable" that gets some goodwill in comparison to what we've been getting for the last month or so.

New theory on the main event mess (save_us222 redux begins...this has no plan...i know):

Miz and Truth are the conspiracy. At HitC, with HHH somehow in the cage during the triple threat, Awesome Truth with a new army (welcome the totally non-NWO "Conspiracy") of I dunno...Ziggler and Barrett...and they kick the crap out of everyone, allowing ADR to somehow get his title back before they go to Mexico, and setting up the Survivor Series mega main event of Rock, Cena, Punk, and Air Boom v. Miz, Truth, Ziggler, Barrett, and (oops I forgot to find a fifth...Nash?).

End random booking guess.

I agree with CiG, I thought tonight's show was a nice little rebound from the lackluster shows of the last few weeks. The Hugh Jackman stuff was harmless fun (plus the mindfuck of seeing him with Zack Ryder was great), I'm really liking the Swagger/Ziggler/Vickie angle, Mark Henry's segment was effective, and the main event was good. The only thing I didn't really like was Kelly Kelly/Eve going over Beth/Natalya. What was once a promising angle now just has me scratching my head as to what the fuck is going in.

A few other thoughts:

-The main problem I have with the "conspiracy" angle is that it seems too scatter shot in regards to who's getting screwed here. Miz/Truth are the leading instigators of the conspiracy talk, but both Punk and Triple H have been victims of it too (mainly thanks to Nash). Whoever the alleged mastermind is, I don't get what they're shooting for other than just creating strife. Though Cena has seemed to be conspicuously uninvolved with most of the conspiracy stuff (cue theoretical Cena heel turn opportunity #2,338).

-I was all set for a solid Del Rio/Morrison affair...and then watched it end in less than two minutes. I don't mind Del Rio getting a big win to recover from last night, but I'm wondering if Morrison isn't suffering from some kind of Melina-related fallout (since he took the pin in the four-way match last night as well).

-Kind of interesting that Orton wasn't on tonight, but I liked him being held off TV and letting Henry get his world title moment. As much as I've always been bored to tears by Henry, I give credit where credit is due and this current heel run is working quite well. I think the clean win over Orton really just pushed it over the top. Though he should enjoy the title while he has it, because I really don't see Orton jobbing two PPVs in a row.

EDIT: S Kid and I were posting at the same time, but I like his basic scenario. I think the only question would be how/why the Rock would get involved (unless Triple H brings him in or something), but this is a question the WWE is going to have to answer regardless since he's advertised for Survivor Series. And just to take it one step further (and cuing up theoretical Cena heel turn opportunity #4,592B), how awesome would it be to have Cena turn on the Rock in the main event of Survivor Series in Madison Square Fucking Garden? Maybe it comes down to Rock/Cena and Miz/Truth, only to have Cena turn on Rock, allowing Miz to get the pin and the win for the heel team? You then have Cena aligned with the bad guys setting up a potential nuclear showdown with the Rock five months down the road.

I guess Hugh Jackman really did clock Ziggler...

From @HeelZiggler on Twitter...

Someone had tweeted to Dolph asking why they didn't teach Jackman how to throw a wrestling punch beforehand.

Also, I gotta love the little things C.M. Punk does in the ring during his talking segments. This weeks favorite of mine was his jumping up & down cheering like a 5 year old, when HHH told him he wasn't fired.

They need to change the name of the Miz-Truth team. If they really want to go in the direction they've chosen, I think "Truly Awesome" would roll off the tongue better.
