Fun discoveries on the WWE Network

Figured we should have a thread dedicated to the cool stuff we find in the WWE Network. I'm not talking Bret vs Austin at Wrestlemania 13, but more little forgotten matches or moments.

My first PPV on the Network Backlash 2001 has had a couple of them.

-Shane doing a scaffold jump on to Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match. Not the best of Shane's matches, but a fun spotfest as per usual.
-Rhino goring a shopping cart. In a Hardcore Title match against Raven, Rhino goes for a gore and ends up being stuck in a shopping cart. The match was mostly below average to average garbage wrestling, but that was a nice spot.
-European Title Triple Threat Match: Matt Hardy vs Eddie Guerrero vs Christian. Not great, but a fun little match with some nice spots and shenanigans.

I got out of work early today because of weather, so I watched a couple of episodes of Legends of Wrestling. A fun way to spend a couple of hours.

I love Legends of Wrestling. I hope they keep making more of those.

I'm watching Unforgiven 2001 currently. I knew that Hurricane Helms and Lance Storm tagged together for a little while, but I never made the Hurricane/Storm name connection somehow. I'm surprised they didn't make Lance more comic bookish and run with that team. It couldn't have been worse then most of the gimmicks they gave Storm.

This Booker T and Shane vs The Rock is a fun match. At least until Test shows up. Shane had a run of fun matches during 2001.

Slamboreee 1994, Sting v. Vader is always good and the Nasty Boys v. Sullivan and Jack is a fun little brawl.

No Way Out 2002 features an excellent Goldust vs RVD match.

Yes, I still remember that match. Cactus had some fun brawls with the Nasty Boys. Check out their first tag title match up. Cactus and Maxx Payne vs The Nasty Boys in a Chicago Street Fight at Spring Stampede 94. Cactus took a nasty nestea plunge off the ramp. Then to add insult to injury, Knobbs took a shovel and hit Cactus right in the face with it. That was not necessary!

The Sullivan/Cactus vs Nasty Boys had an Ice Hockey player as a referee. I am blanking with the name at the moment. I do recall laughing when Sullivan gets scared of the flattened trash can Sags was swinging. Not that I entirely blame him as it had some sharp edges. Didn't Payne give Knobbs a nasty overhead belly to belly suplex to Knobbs in this match? Knobbs ended up landing face first and basically took the shape of the letter "C" once he hit the mat.

WCW Halloween Havoc 1990. Sting vs. Ric Flair. During the match the two end up brawling their way backstage and off camera. Then they brawl their way back into the ring where Ric Flair gets a quick pin of "Sting". However "Sting" looks a little different. Then all of a sudden Sting runs in from the back with rope tied around him. Ric Flair and "Sting" and battled their way back stage where the Horsemen tied up Sting. Then Ric Flair and Barry Windham (dressed and looking pretty close to Sting, face paint, hair and all) brawled their way to the ring for the fake pin. Ref restarts the match and real Sting prevails. Good stuff.

Not to mention an awesomely violent Dustin/Buck match (Match of the night) and the beginning of the bitchin' Regal/Larry Z feud. '94 WCW was so sweet!

Starrcade '88 has a Bam Bam Bigelow vs. Barry Windham that is just stellar. 15 or so minutes of an awesome match marred by a bullshit ending, but still well worth the watch.

I remember watching that live, thinking "jeebus, the human body doesn't bend that way."

This might not be a top shelf discovery...but I was watching a more in-depth Shango/Warrior recap than I had ever seen before - does anyone know how they got the goo to show up on Warrior's head? Did someone pour it from behind? It really looked out of nowhere from the angle I saw.

Edit: internet says pump from the jacket. That's some impressive cosmetic tubing work if so.

Watching WWE Rebellion 2002. Worth watching just to see Billy Kidman cleanly pin Cena for the win. I guess he really was close to getting fired.

Other matches include Mysterio vs Tajiri vs. Jamie Noble in a triple threat match, Edge vs Brock and Heyman in a handicap match, and Los Guerreros vs Angle and Benoit. A really fun show and, thankfully, less air-horn that the other UK PPVs.

I'll throw in Sheamus vs John Morrion, ladder match from TLC 2010. Morrison was pretty on fire at the end of his WWE run and we all know Sheamus is great in physical match ups, so this was a really entertaining affair.

Halloween Havoc '96 Malenko vs. Mysterio. Clocks in at about 20 minutes. A very awesome crusierweight championship match. It's been so long since I've watched it originally that I had no idea of the outcome so that was a bonus.

Just signed up today. First thing I did was check it's robust search feature.

You can't do a search for Chris Benoit, it seems.

My search for Mankind came up with about 10 matches.

Now, I'm gonna try Legends House before the Extreme Rules pre-show.

Those two have a ton of great matches. My personal favorite pairing of all time.

The search feature is pretty shitty. La Parka comes up with only one result. What's up with that?

I just watched Kane vs Shane in a Last Man Standing Match from Unforgiven 2003. Probably better then Kane/D Bry from this past week. Shane should probably be remembered as one of the greatest hardcore wrestlers of all time.

Watching Clash Of The Champions VII, Jim Ross interviews Ric Flair at his home after the attack by Terry Funk that almost "ended his career" and Flair utters this immortal quote in reference to his career possibly being over -

"I've made more money than I could spend in two lifetimes."

Are we still sure about that, Ric?

Here's a discovery I've made from watching multiple Clash Of The Champions as of late - Missy Hyatt was freakin' AWFUL!! Horrible on the mic and not even super hot. How much D was she sucking to keep her job? Wait, don't answer that..

I was having a discussion with someone who was putting over the Steiner Brothers. I always liked the Steiners but never truly appreciated them or saw enough of their matches. I caught some of their WWF run and by time I started watching WCW their days as a team were coming to an end.

So I have started seeking out some of their material on the network. One gem I came across, from Halloween Havoc 90, The Steiners vs The Nasty Boyz. The crowd is red hot and the Steiners are over huge! Sweet Jesus, Scott was such a beast. The guy would just toss guys around like it was no one's business. I loved seeing all their suplexes. The Steiners were a bit ahead of their time, no doubt.

Rick Steiner even busted open Knobbs the hard way with a wicked chair shot. I need to see some of the Steiners' work in Japan.

Wrestlemania XI

Undertaker vs King Kong Bundy

Horrible Match but the first time ever WWF/WWE started talking about the streak.

Taker doesn't even use the Tombstone to beat Bundy, does he?

I wouldn't expect 1995-era Undertaker to be able to Tombstone someone as big as King Kong Bundy, but he doesn't even use the chokeslam to beat him; he just uses his flying clothesline. On the one hand, it's a little surprising, as he'd just used the chokeslam on Yokozuna, of all people, at Survivor Series 1994. But I guess it does make some sense that 'Taker can't chokeslam someone who doesn't have a neck.

I had always wished that Taker could have tombstoned Giant Gonzalez. What a spectacle that could have been.

Forgotten little dandy from royal Rumble 91. The Rockers vs The Orient Express. They are give around 20 minutes to work and you see a more sensational side out of the Orient Express. I always mark out for the Orient Express's neat chopsticks style entrance theme. It is catchy.
