Tough Enough 2015

Tough enough starts next week, and to get us ready for the USA network show, the WWE Network has a 1 hour special looking at the 40 contestants that amde it through to the final stages of the competition.

As in previous seasons, there are plenty of people who really should never have been here: a guy who didn't know anything about WWE, a few people who were so out of shape they lasted an hour in the cardio training...

Mike Hayes stood out as a guy who could make it to the midcard as their token ex Army guy who lost a body part... sadly the way his fake leg and real leg could co-operate with his heart, so hopefully they'll figure that out and he could re-appear on TV in another year.

ZZ could be a cool Skinner / Bray Wyatt type guy... I'll be rooting for him.

We only briefly saw Zack Ryders best friend, Big-O, Adam Ohriner. It looks like thorughout the entire camp he wouldn't drop the "Big O" character, as even when they wanted to just have a conversation he was cutting promos on Lita, Billy and Booker. Booker himself said that they'd all expected him to come in and blow everyone away, clearly referencing who he is, but that they just didnt see it. I guess this is why in the years since Z! TLIS, they've never signed him to a development contract at all.

I could have seen them picking Red Headed Ashely to win (and cut Eva Marie while you're at it, please). They definitely spent more time explaining who she is etc, to get you invested in her from the start, only to cut her last minute. Life sucks some times... Lita refenced her coming back when she's healthy, so maybe that's something for the future...

Anyone else watched this yet? Got any favourites?

I liked the Skinner guy. And there are a few hotties, although we only saw that one blond in the beginning before tryouts started....and then in the end when she was revealed to have made the cut.

Bummer that bozo hair made the cut....only for health issues to force them to drop her. She was interesting.

The problem with that special is that the production was so crappy. It's almost like they decided to throw together a special out of the footage they had yesterday and just chopped it all up.

They spent a decent amount of time on maybe six people. Most of them didn't make the cut or had to drop out for medical reasons. I swear I think I remember maybe four of the 13 people that made the cut. I'm hoping when they switch to USA that the production will pick up a bit.

At this point I'm just rooting for Z because he was the most interesting story. I was surprised they cut him the first time around before bringing him back. I figured there would be at least a couple guys who they left around just for television purposes and not because they necessarily were going to win.

I'm curious as to what tests Khalil didn't pass, considering he played in the NFL.

His punch-the-wife-in-the-head skills were up to league standard but his beat-a-small-child-with-a-sapling effort was sadly lacking.

WWE and NFL don't have the exact same list of PEDs they test for.

Anyone watch last night?

I don't think the summer/8 PM Tuesday slot did them a ton of favors. You go live at 5 PM PST and you get what you get. No Wrestlemania and no Monday slot and I'm getting ready for the internet freak out about ratings.

Not to mention the live factor is lumpy and doesn't seem to allow them to tell an overlapping storyline for the season, especially since they just met these people two weeks ago. They need a stronger format because the live segments felt rushed.

The Austin factor looms largely too. There doesn't feel like any big moment to call upon in these episodes. Way too many cooks in the kitchen between the coaches, judges, and hosts.

I still enjoyed it because, whatever, I'll take anything wrestling that's a bit different. Hoping to see Sara Lee win this thing. She's cute and I don't really like anyone else there...so there's my rooting interest. I think there's only two others that really have anything to bring to the table - Patrick and Tanner. ZZ will be a fan favorite who will hold on purely from the fan vote. He shouldn't win just because most of the others are devoid of personality. When we live in a world where a guy like Kevin Owens has to be so much more to get past the vision of his body type, a guy like ZZ who can't even be an in-shape bigger guy shouldn't just get over because of his mouth. I'll enjoy having him around for this thing, but if he wins, it's gonna be yet another Tough Enough dud.

I too am hoping Sara wins on the female side. Cute. Spunky. And not all the other ones. If Dianna is having trouble being away from her soon-to-be-fiance....she has no business there. Gabi - although fine with calling her out on it - is not going to fit in backstage at all. The pretty blond is pretty. That's my take on the females.

The dudes - Tanner is the most interesting of the lot. Cockiness can be a double-edged sword so it will be interesting to see how long he lasts at being a top performer...and how he reacts to the inevitable loss of that.

ZZ like you said is a good character / personality but physically.... It'll be very interesting to see how he performs when they start sparring and doing actual wrestling stuff. If he is bad and/or slow at that, I see an early exit...although probably not without one of the judges using their save on him.

Lastly, Paige's boobs. That is probably the thing I remember the most about the premier.

Not only survived but thrived, getting more than half the vote. For being called out for blending in - I hope it's a sign that fans of the show are going to respond to more girl-next-door types and less ditzy model types. Although the 'Jersey Devil' girl is doing herself no favors by giving Dianna a heel persona and nickname in "Princess Diana". You're making her character for her! Shut up!

Man this show seems way overproduced. There are also too many WWE personalities. The most nonessential being Chris Jericho. The guy serves no purpose whatsoever. Renee Young would be just fine on her own doing the hosting duties. As far as the judges are concerned, Paige is the only one that stands out. Daniel Bryan is horrible and Hogan is....well Hogan. The trainers are just ok. Billy Gun is a little better than I thought he would be.

As far as the contestants, there doesn't appear to be too many Einsteins among this bunch. That Alex guy came off like a complete idiot. Also, Mada sure talks a lot for someone who hasn't done jack shit so far! ZZ reminds me of a cartoon character. He has the cardio of an 80 year old confined to a wheelchair. We've seen his act before with that toothless kid they had on the last Tough Enough.

I'm not really sure how much I like this new Tough Enough. It's like they really want to protect how people learn to wrestle for some reason, so it's a stupid ass reality show with pointless challenges. There's no incentive for winning and none really for losing, unless you just lose spectacularly and quit.

I'm assuming the judges see more than we do because how could they decide who's going to be the next WWE superstar off of 25 minutes of a weeks worth of edited highlights?

The most absolute pointless part is where they talk for 30 seconds because that can't matter at all. How are they going to count the flurry of votes for someone after the very last person uses their 30 seconds to say 'cut me, I really suck and want to go home?' Unless they rig the voting, there's no way they can.

The way they are editing the show also makes me not interested. Can't really imagine watching NXT in 9 months, seeing Diana for example and going, oh that's the girl that is engaged and loves her fiance. I can't wait to see her wrestle. It doesn't work like that.

Week 3 of Tough Enough: Will they try to eliminate Sara Lee and eliminate my need to view Tough Enough? We shall see.

In the meantime...damn is that Patrick guy putting his money where his mouth is with knowing WWE history:

So I realize I may have hitched my wagon to...not the greatest horse in Sara Lee...but I'll be going down with that ship.

I'm guessing at this point I'm one of like, 2 people who have seen all 3 episodes live - I suggest no one watch tonight's show and just skip ahead to the post show which is the far more interesting show and probably came as close to starting an actual catfight as will be allowed on WWE.

Paige at this point has realized she can say anything she wants and is doing so. Daniel Bryan is far too nice and apparently doesn't get how the eliminations work. Hulk Hogan sees something in ZZ...which might make him blind. Miz is probably the best host of the 7,000 WWE personalities on this show.

Anyway, unless you like never-ending discussion about fake packages and implants, you can probably avoid this episode. WWE is probably regretting deciding to have two winners this season, though now on top of it all, they're going to have an extra episode without a person to eliminate sometime going forward.

I can't stand ZZ. He's such a useless bag of shit who's being kept around entirely to be a laughingstock. He has no physical abilities, his charisma is just acting like an idiot and, ultimately, I don't think he's acting, he's just a fucking idiot.

Patrick, Tanner and Josh all have some potential, obviously, but the show is so rushed and has so little actual material in it that it's hard to measure.

Dianna leaving of her own accord was not surprising in the least - why stay in a house where everyone spends all their time telling you how much you suck? WWE has shown often enough that, if they think you've got it, they'll hire you whether you 'win' their talent competition or not.

^This^

Seeing him in that costume made me embarrassed to be a wrestling fan. What the fuck was that??

When are they actually going to start teaching them actual wrestling moves? We are heading into the 4th week and all they have done is hit the ropes and fall on their backs off the top rope....ridiculous!

CM Crunk pointed out Patrick being on Periscope during the Beast in the East special and boy did that pay off in the Tough Talk show.

As for Paige calling out Sara Lee, I love Paige...I love her look, her skills in the ring, her personality...but has anyone else noticed how timid she looks when she comes out to the ring? It's always "oh should I open my jacket? Ok, let's do a side skip to the ring, oh I better scream when I get on the apron" It was just uncomfortable to see her introduction on Beast in the East and then proceed to bad mouth someone's entrance on Tough Enough.

Close but no cigar.

Man, those first two promos were garbage.

Who the F wouldn't love to cut a promo on Hogan?!? With him tellng you to do your worst. It writes its self:

"Hulk, 25 years past your prime, can barely walk, 9 back surgeries, leather face, knows three wrestling moves Hogan. I'm younger, stronger, faster and smarter than you. You're nothing but an entrance and a memory. Brother." Boom. Done.

Hahaha...permission or not, burying Hulk Hogan on national TV is probably a mistake in the long run...though I'm sure Hogan would have come right back and crushed Tanner. This show has been dying to have some of these guys show personality and at least a few of them got something across today - not Tanner though, as you wrote, lz. What a dud he's becoming.

Good for Patrick though. He was beginning to become a one-note yeller, but if you watched the post-show (which if you watch the regular show, you should since that is 100x better every week), he stepped up live with a crushing promo on Mada, the other guy doing well...putting Patrick well ahead of his competition.

And thank goodness for that different elimination this week - I was losing my faith in the other person I care about on this show; Sara Lee finally did something competently.

They also finally used Jericho in a far better way. He can be an approximation of Austin, but putting him in the host role has neutered him. The show has made some improvements - notably less live stuff - so hopefully it's turning around.

And watch the post-show if you all have a chance. Miz is pretty great on it and it's very free-flowing and far more interesting.

I'll give the post show a chance because the actual show kind of sucks. It's a crap reality show and it's not that fun a game show. If the audience votes for the winner, which it looks like they will, ZZ and Sara Lee are going to be in the final 3. No doubt. The audience won't vote them off. ZZ is going to the finals for sure if he doesn't call the fans fucking morons for voting for him. Sara Lee is the worst, at least on the edit, but she's not going home because she's one of the actual characters in the edits so people like her.

The show needs to be longer if they are going to do it like this, because there is simply not enough of the competitions to combine with the judges. It seems totally unfair for Hogan to judge Patrick off of 35 seconds of promo work when he won the fucking challenge we barely saw. Unless the judges see more than we do, the editors decide who is going to win and stand out. It's that simple. If they edit you into the background, good bye.

That being said, the girl tonight was brutal and clearly didn't understand what promos were. Tanner should have gone after Hogan hardcore instead of being a baby.

Paige is by far the best part on the show. I would watch her judge everything.

Just watched last night.

Not that I would ever accuse reality shows, more or less wrestling reality shows, as being real, but the way this show is panning out it almost feels like they are trying to get Sara Lee to win. It's like they are trying to create drama and a story for when she eventually comes back and wins it all. Notice that nobody was anywhere near as brutal on the girl who went out this week despite the fact that she was even worse. I feel like they see that the audience wants her to do well and they are trying to build her up into an underdog story.

Am I the only one who thinks that Patrick, despite the fact that he's doing really well at these competitions compared to most of the cast, just doesn't seem like a star in the making? He just doesn't feel like he will make a believable performer. I see him more as a potential future announcer or something on that level.

Edited to say, I really like Patrick as a guy too. I'm rooting for him to do well and he may be the best potential for any of these guys. I'm just not sure that's saying much.

He's the next Matt Striker.

Short, uninteresting in-ring career, then his encyclopedic knowledge of wrestling and superfanism makes him into a really good announcer.
