OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (February 1, 2016)
Tonight on RAW: WWE will be tasked with trying to fix the inane final revelation of last week's RAW, in which The Authority's
master plan to keep the WWE Title away from Roman Reigns involved just putting him straight into a #1 Contender Match at the next PPV, with absolutely
no motivation for doing something that is -- objectively, given their stated goal -- so incredibly stupid...
The most obvious way for WWE to distract from their braindead storytelling is to amp up tension between Reigns and Dean Ambrose.... the two former
Shield brothers have held together fairly well, but ultimately, unless that tension leads to a modified WWE Title Match (a three-way) at WrestleMania
and includes a full-on heel turn by somebody, it'll go for naught if they just tease a little bit here and there, and then everybody's
friends again after Fastlane...
The same basic problem exists if WWE intends to make Brock Lesnar (the third man in the #1 Contender Match) a serious obstacle to the seemingly
inevitable HHH/Reigns WM32 Main Event.... in WWE's very own, company approved hype for tonight's RAW, Lesnar's participation in the
#1 Contender match is mentioned in passing, but it's clear that his primary motivation is getting back at the Wyatt Family, because Lesnar/Wyatt
is also a seemingly inevitable WM32 match...
Boiling those two paragraphs down to the only possible solution I can think of: the Wyatts interrupt the Fastlane 3-way, and by attacking Lesnar,
there's no clear cut winner (think how NXT did the Zayn/Joe/Corbin #1 Contender Match).... as a result you get your Lesnar/Wyatts match AND you
upgrade the WWE Title Match to a HHH vs. Reigns vs. Ambrose three-way that might actually not get shat upon to epically... we'll see, it's
just that as is, there's way too much indefensible dumbness swirling around WWE's fundamentally flawed plans for the WM main event
picture....
Ambrose placed in the #1 Contender Match takes the IC belt out of play... new US Champ Kalisto would still owe Alberto del Rio a rematch, but word on
the street is that ADR is battling a neck issue and may need some time off.... ergo, it might be time to hand Kalisto off to ADR's pal, Sheamus,
who seems to excel when picking on the little fellas.... or Rusev works, too... it's a shame WWE doesn't usually do face-face title feuds,
because this would also be a perfect place for AJ Styles to showcase his strengths (high energy/action in-ring) and mask his weaknesses (anything that
requires much talking or drama)...
The Rock's antics last week were fun, in a vacuum, but it also seemed like they were ultimately designed to give legs to the New Day/Usos
feud.... perhaps even legs all the way to an ultimate pay-off match at WM, where Rocky would be at ringside, helping his cousins? I dunno, but he did
say "WE wills ee you at WrestleMania" at the end of that segment last Monday.... if the New Day need to mark time for Fastlane, you always have the
Dudleys, and you also have WWE getting suspiciously behind newly formed teams like Swagger/Henry (winners of the Rumble 4-way match) and
Goldust/R-Truth (the subject of multiple vignettes already)...
A Women's Title 3-way is also what most of us seem to endorse as the plan for WM32, but I'm not sure it's WWE's.... Becky
Lynch just was NOT supposed to be that good at being the easy-to-cheer babyface, I don't think, and now I get the distinct impression WWE would
prefer to squeeze her out, with all eyes on Charlotte vs. Sasha at WM.... in that scenario, you have Charlotte doing the heelish thing of sitting back
and watching others fight for her amusement (and for a shot at her title), setting up Sasha/Becky at Fastlane...
Ambrose's bogarting of the IC Title while he plays in the WWE Title scene has a trickle down, as now Kevin Owens is completely spinning his
wheels... if he's pulling Undertaker Duty this year, it wouldn't be bad to get that started sooner than later, as Taker's increased
activity in 2015 means there's a chance to do a real pro wrestling grudge match here, and not just a randomly generated story where two guys
point to the WM Logo; I don't think Taker's had one of those since the second HBK match... Ambrose's displacement also has Jericho
with nothing to do (he seemed like he might be scheming up a heel turn and an IC Title chase, given his recent history with Ambrose)... the same can
be said for a few higher up guys, like Ziggler and even fresh-faced AJ Styles, not all of whom deserve to be fodder for the Andre Battle Royale....
Speaking of that, the only other match that seems to be percolating for Fastlane is Big Show vs. Braun Strowmann, not because anybody gives a shit (we
don't), but because it can serve as the starting point of hyping said Battle Royale... whee?
That is all. End communication.
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome.
So discuss, debate, and rate!

I think you can take the IC title off Ambrose sooner rather than later. Give it to the Y2J/AJ feud or even Ziggler would work. I think an
interesting End Game would be the Wyatt's taking Lesnar "out" of the 3-way writing his WrestleMania story. Then you have Ambrose win the
match outright, have Reigns finagle his way into the 3-way building the tension between the two, and then at Mania either have Reigns join the
Authority outright as champion or have Ambrose win the title for the WrestleMania moment and have Reigns turn on him the following night.

Seeing how nothing they did made sense last week, I could see them pulling out the reasoning for putting Reigns in the match as "You can have a title
shot...but can you really fight your Shield brother??" You know, even though he already did to initially win the title.

Reigns is kind of owned a rematch (no idea how this works post-RR-type loss, but I guess we make it up as we go along)...all WWE had to do was convey
this clause in the reasoning for putting him in the match (like Daniel Bryan at Fastlane last year) and 99% of the issues with this match go away.
ETA:
Ambrose-Brock confrontation...looked just right standing next to him. Nice start to the year of Ambrose.

I'm really REALLY hoping this is the time for Ambrose to get his shot. It WILL go over well. And Reigns still needs more time. He and HHH will
get boo'd hard if they go that route.
That said, if Dean wins at Fastline, have the Authority just fuck him over and lose the IC title in the build up to Mania. BS match after BS match
until he finally loses. Get's the Authority heat, and makes Ambrose look sympathetic.

I like the way they are using Ambrose. I like that he is at or near the top of the roster all of the time. He main events or is involved in the main
event seemingly 75% of the time. He is the IC champion we've been wanting for years. He's been a quasi-believable World Champion contender
for sometime now.
His promo was spot on. No fear and take the beating.

I dunno why, but the Uso's entrance reminds me this. (Language warning)
Also, I liked Reigns intensely low-talking Steph. He'll make for a fine heel someday. I hope.

Owens losing to Ziggler is the kind of stupid booking the WWE does. The Ziggler ship has sailed and it's not like he is important in the
immediate or long term term. Owens COULD be (and probably should be) but takes a loss in a random RAW match serving what purpose?

As with most things WWE, I just enjoyed the match and even the Ziggler win in a bubble, but yeah in the grand scheme of things it was kind of lolwut?
given that Dolph has essentially been "Ceiling'd". Unless there's a WM MITB afoot and they've got plans to build up a feud down
