Looks like Enzo was discharged last night... Concussions suck, and it will probably mean some time on the bench for the two*, but glad to hear it doesn't look like anything too bat.

*I'm a bit split on this one; on one hand they just dbuted, so Cass biding his time down in NXT for a bit, or just doing house shows wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.... as A) they shouldn't rush a concussion, and B) Enzo and Cass just kinda hovering around and talking could make the talking old that much quicker... They are definitely over, but it's in the ring where they still need to prove themselves, and constant catchphrases without backing it just feels like a recipe for them getting tedious.

On the other hand.... a shift in focus where they run with Enzo being Cass's manager could be a thing.... I mean just from a size/look standpoint Cass probably wets the WWE's (ie Vince) appetite a bit more. The extra time for Cass to shine while still a bit protected by knowing it's likely to end soon wouldn't be a bad thing...

Thing is, from a short term standpoint the team is probably where the money is, and there aren't a lot of good opponents out there that would feel like they are accomplishing anything with... maybe the Social Outcasts, as you could then do a quick blow of tag feud once Enzo is cleared; so I'd probably pull them from TV and bench Cass for the month or so that it would Enzo to get better... the big pop for when they come back would be a good thing.

In hindsight it is perfectly obvious. If the Vaudvillans were going to win do the count out and voila the tourney continues as planned. The count out can be concurrent with the medical attention. Hell it could come long after he is stretched out with a mention by Cole tonight.

However, if E&CASS; were going to win, oh shit! What do we do? The ensuing Throw the match out until we figure out the injury is the only option.

So I've been working my ass off and preparing for the awesomeness of Uncle-hood and catching up on WWE has been at the left back as opposed to the forefront. Before I get on to Payback, things that have surprised me the last few weeks:

1) Roman Reigns teaming with Bray Wyatt
2) The Bullet Club kinda reforming
3) The Women's Division getting what it always needed, an endorsement from Dr. Phil
4) I thought Enzo Amore's schtick would wear on me quickly... it hasn't
5) Still baffling how there hasn't been any real explanation for Vince going from "my son of a bitch" son could never control Raw to, "OK it's yours for a month."
6) The total absence of HHH. I mean, TOTAL absence... almost CM Punk like.

Onto tonight:

* Vaudevillains intro is fantastic.on the big stage.
* New Day was being fantastic turning this into their own private sports bar and then that freakish thing happened with Enzo. So do the Vaudevillains win? I guess so.
* Great video package on Owens/Zayn.
* That field goal kick by KO was funny.
* Michinoku Driver... or as Cole calls it, a Blue Thunder Bomb.
* Zayn/KO putting on a show.
* Why is Maryse dressed for competition?
* KO telling an interesting story on commentary here, first saying he'd beat either man, but then tacitly swinging to Miz's corner, not wanting to face Cesaro.
* Chicago counting half-revolutions this evening.
* Tell you what, they're giving every match pairing a chance to develop their rhythm.
* And as soon as I say that, Dirty Deeds and fin.
* Wow, crowd REALLY behind Nattie.
* I know she's the son of Ric Flair, but that moonsault of hers makes me think of Jushin Liger. It's that pretty.
* I will say if she's going I will miss Stephanie's hotness.
* Wow, Steph getting Roman level boos.
* Steph can still cut a promo like nobody's business, regardless of crowd noise.
* Hmmm... I like this decision. Would love to see how it shows two people who can't seem to get along run a business despite personal differences.
* Just a KO for Enzo. Good for him.
* Should be interesting to hear the boos from the tepid Chicago crowd for Roman. #Sarcasm
* Wow, they started booing after AJ's music stopped and BEFORE Roman's music began, then intensified when it started.
* JBL talks about a Loose Head Prop retiring in rugby. Some peope might describe Roman as a Loose Head Prop.
* Like that Schoolboy Powerbomb from Roman. That's moveset expansion.
* Holy Shit! Phenomenal Forearm through the table!!!!
* Wow. That was a quick main event.
* Something I've never understood... why is it sometimes getting back in the ring breaks the count and sometimes it doesn't?
* Restart? Why?
* Oh, here we go, forgot gamesmanship between Steph and Shane has to start immediately.
* Just another way to keep Roman protected. Have him miss half the Royal Rumble, have him get a pair of 2-minute breaks to catch his breath.
* Have to admit that was a picturesque visual, countering the Phenomenal Foream with the Superman Punch.
* That was a great job of making that brawl and the Styles crash and burn seem very natural.
* How the hell did Reigns kick out of the springboard 450?
* So Styles beats Reigns twice and doesn't win the title. Interesting. I'll give the match an A- because I know why they did what they did on multiple levels. Steph/Shane now trumping the WWE Title Picture is not what's best for business.

I personally don't read anything into how it was ended. They had no idea what they were dealing with in terms of injury, except that Enzo was limp, out cold and his neck/head hit the ring/mat pretty ferociously and a frightening angle. Could you imagine it being more serious than it, by all accounts and hopefully, turned out to be -- and they didn't stop the show, but rather played it out into their tag-team tourney storyline?

They needed everything else to stop, get him attended to and out of there.

Another consideration: One of the false finishes in the main event is a countout. There's no rule that says you can't have two countouts on one show, I suppose, but I'd imagine it crossed the minds of the bookers and would have added enough uncertainty to prevent an easy out. "Oh shit, Enzo's hurt. Well, the Vaudevillains can just win by countout. But wait, does that screw up the main event? Um, um, ah, screw it, just do a no-contest."

Dude, get over it. Roman Reigns more than held his own. Together they put on a good show. He sold the phenomenal forearm through the table like a champ and was selling his left leg throughout the entire match. His display of power offense in the early moments of the match was also really well done. The Guy knows how to work.

Why would anyone think a countout for the opening match screws up the main event? Neither Shane nor Stephanie was in a position to try to one-up each other until much later in the evening because their antics in the main event were the product of Vince's decision to give them equal authority.

I don't mean in storyline, I mean in terms of overuse. The same way you don't want multiple PPV matches ending in DQ, or too many matches on one card ending by sneaky feet-on-ropes pinning combinations, or whatever. Like I said, I'm sure there's no set cap on number of countout finishes per card, but it's a factor that would go into the booking team's decision as they figure out how to adjust to Enzo Amore's injury on the fly.

Yeah it was really neat how he was selling like his leg was about to fall off and two seconds later casually did a suicide dive over the top rope like it aint no thang... Seriously though I'll give Roman props for getting AJ up past waste high on his one armed power bomb its the first time I've seen him do that without looking like he was gonna shit himself. Overall I thought the match was probably Romans 3rd best match ever* although the over-booking did fuck up the flow in my opinion so it was probably behind the Sami vs. KO, Miz vs. Cesaro segment for me.

Been down this road before, and shamefully participated in it too, with the illogical group-hate for someone who is a perfectly fine and dynamic performer. Not gonna do it again. "He is literally worse than Hitler" - the OO Universe, with it's perpetually sore nipples, on John Cena circa 2005 thru 2015. "When's Cena coming back? I kinda miss the guy" - the OO Universe, wildly emotionally erratic as it PMS's again, circa 2016.
