OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (June 6, 2016)
Tonight on RAW: WWE continues on a path to Money in the Bank, a show that is shaping up to be very strong from top to bottom, with compelling
storylines backing up top-shelf talent to such a degree that one can actually envision this upcoming second attempt at a Brand Split working out quite
nicely...
The titular MitB Ladder Match is a great assemblage of 6 guys -- two former world champions who have plenty of credibility (Y2J and ADR), two proven
top tier guys who are pretty universally viewed as future world champs (Ambrose and Owens), and two popular underdoggish crowd pleasers with high spot
capability (Zayn and Cesaro) -- who are sure to put on a hell of a match in 2 weeks, but who can also be mixed and matched in various iterations of
singles and tag matches until then...
Notably, last week, WWE was hyping a 7th qualifying match to take place on RAW, but then quietly swept the whole concept of a 7th participant under
the rug... another entrant could always be in the offing, and it's worth noting that Bray Wyatt posted a cryptic tweet about possibly returning
to RAW tonight, and included a picture of himself holding the WWE Title belt... the quickest way to get into the WWE Title picture? Win MitB....
Already in the WWE Title picture are champion Roman Reigns and his new #1 Contender Seth Rollins... it's a super-easy, yet still quite
compelling story of two former friends turned foes, and a former champ looking to regain a title he never lost... plus, say what you will about
Reigns, but he's just off a run of surprisingly excellent matches against AJ Styles, and even if the polarity may be the reverse of what WWE
intends, the electricity should be off the charts in terms of fan response... I'm also kind of intrigued as to whether or not WWE intends to add
any more moving parts; the Usos will be utterly directionless if they aren't still somehow hitched to Reigns, but I don't think the return
of J&J; Security is exactly the answer to get Rollins' some hired goons of his own...
Last week, AJ Styles completed a heel turn, rejoining Gallows and Anderson, and beating the ever-loving shit out of John Cena... this sets up a third
marquee match for the PPV, with Cena and Styles representing a battle of a guy who has spent 15 years being the best in WWE vs. a guy who has spent
the last 15 years being the best everywhere else... I think it'll deliver the goods, and hold up its end of the bargain as a co-co-main
event...
Even with Miz (our IC Champ) away making a movie, and just doing the heel deal of phoning in promos about how great he is, WWE still has more
engrossing undercard stories than they have room for matches at the PPV... not just "they have alleged stories happening on TV," I mean these are
things where I actually kinda care about seeing a match and finding out who wins and loses, and how...
Gallows and Anderson are now in line for a shot at the New Day's tag titles, and represent the first really serious threat to take the belts
since the New Day's face turn (and SD showed us that Styles is happy to join G&A; for 3-on-3 action against the New Day, too)...
Charlotte's Women's Title is taking a bit of a rest, as Charlotte and Dana Brooke find themselves dealing with more of a tag team feud
against Becky Lynch and Natalya; Becky could easily use this as a means to another title shot, or you could do a thing where Charlotte and Dana are
dominant, and demand that the entire division fight it out to figure out a new worthy #1 Contender (with both Naomi and Sasha Banks about ready to
return to action, a Women's MitB Ladder Match remains something I heartily endorse the idea of).... I think Rusev is finally back to where he
was 15 months ago, or so, as a very credible heel US Champ, just with a bit more added personality and verbosity; Titus is a really interesting
challenger, as he's a rare guy who matches power-for-power with Rusev, and also oozes likeability if given half a chance (no promises, but it
seems like a pairing with a sneaky chance for great chemistry)...
A notch below those three title feuds, you've also got: Enzo/Cass are red hot, and can easily keep this thing with the Dudleys brewing... the
depth of the tag division is also on display in the form of the surprisingly compelling Golden Truth vs. Breezedango drama... the Ziggler/Corbin
rivalry took an interesting turn last week (it's first one), with Ziggler Sac Punting Corbin, resulting in Corbin making the promise that he
will not enter a WWE ring again until it's his chance to end Ziggler's career for good... and while most signs point to a Sheamus face
turn in the near future, he just kick-started a random-ish feud against Apollo Crews (who is a can't miss blue-chipper in the long run, but who
suffered his first real setback by losing to Chris Jericho in a match where he was obviously off by a step, resulting in some bungled spots)...
It also cannot be forgotten that Shane and Stephanie McMahon can be counted on to kill 15 or 20 minutes as part of their on-going "co-controllership
of RAW" storyline, with the inevitable prickly heat between the two likely setting the stage for the upcoming Brand Split.... also, it'll be
interesting to see if and how WWE addresses Brock Lesnar's upcoming UFC 200 fight against Mark Hunt; on one hand, they can't ignore it,
and will benefit a TON if Lesnar wins, but on the other, Lesnar is gonna make UFC a LOT of money either way, so WWE may not want to give them too much
free publicity on the off chance Brock loses....
That is all. End communication....
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome.
So discuss, debate, and rate!

Yet no one in the women's division could have used that ten minutes to put on a match.

Worst opening in 35 months?
Not even close. That distinction still belongs to the Roman Reigns/Vince McMahon abortion from a few months back where Vince was arrested.
Plus that opening tonight wasn't even all THAT bad.
Is everyone mad here?
Of course they are, and you are too... otherwise, you wouldn't have come here.

Even if the Vince/Roman opening was awful, it did help spawn this particular Botchamania ending.

I feel bad for Swagger. He should know by now that this match is only ending with him tapping/passing out. Nice double clothesline, though.
Edit: Oooooo, variety! Prime Time Patriots, anyone? No? Alright.

Yeah, I thought the opening segment was pretty entertaining and had some funny moments. I don't quite get the hate.

I hate how they are having Zayn admit he is underdog in all his matches....I dont' know if its in translation or what...but it makes it look
like he has 0 confidence in himself and doesn't think he can win.

They seem to be doing lots of "interesting" things as far as television production is
concerned tonight. The shots of the Crowd Watching the Video Montage, and a few other infrequently used angles. I wonder if it's
'practice' for the brand split, to make the shows look different?

S'what I was thinking. Lot of different camera angles, the way they're starting matches, little details seem different. Nothing bad,
just...different. But the camera guy doing the Ambrose/Owens segment made it look like he was doing it on the high seas.
ETA: I found some footage of Dean Ambrose as a child before someone taught him to face the opposite direction and begin practicing his lowest
turnbuckle turnaround maneuver from the bottom rung of the monkey bars.
ETA2: Oh thank fuck Becks throttled back on the orange hair dye.
ETA3: C'mon, c'mon, fight or fuck, shit or get off the pot ladies.

I was only halfway paying attention to the announcers hyping NXT, but I could have swore Byron Saxton called him "Shitstain Nakamura". I had to do a
double-take.

What, wait ... Teddy just swerved us? Guess we'll have to wait until the Money In The Bank pre-show to get the blow-off to the epic Golden

I thought my...tendencies...made me hear that. I'm glad someone else has the sickness as well.
Also, "Aerogigantic". Godfuckingdamnit that was wonderful. Did they muzzle the writers or something? Seems guys have gotten a lot more leeway
lately. Also2, they need to get Chuck and Billy in on this action. They can all fight over a briefcase full of AZT hanging over the ring.

I wouldn't say that 1 Teddy Long = 1 Shane-o-mac, but he was a very good 'foil' for Steph to spend her time interacting with for the
evening. And that's not just my pro-playa bias talking either, b'lee dat.
ETFinishMySentences,Gawd.
ETAdd: So Cole mentions Kendrick & London out of the blue, and then right after that JBL says "things not looking good for Mister Anderson."
I can't even tell if he did that on purpose, or just let his mouth throw words into the microphone.
ETInfinityAndBeyond: More proof that Cena is a douche. He waits until AFTER the 3-on-2 match to come help the New Day battle his current foes, AJ
Styles & The Club Sandwich. I know we already know this, I just wanted to put this incident in the permanent record.
