OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (June 20, 2016)

Tonight on RAW: WWE is all shook up after last night's pair of World Title Changes... Seth Rollins cleanly beat Roman Reigns to win the title, but then Dean Ambrose cashed in his freshly won MitB Contract to pin Rollins mere moments later... obviously, this creates a situation in which both Reigns and Rollins have obligatory rematches coming to them, and there are about a billion different ways to sort that out...

Further complicating matters: WWE's next PPV is Battleground on July 24... but before that, on the July 19 edition of SmackDown -- live on its new home on Tuesday nights -- WWE is executing Brand Split v2.0, including conducting the entire Draft that night...

Soooooooo... it's not just as easy as saying "three-way match and we're done".... more than likely, having three major players in the title hunt also provides the context needed from some screwiness that will result in splitting the title/adding a second world title.... and a fourth major player to keep an eye out for, who has a date with UFC on July 9, but then is back to WWE: Brock Lesnar, who absolutely decimated new WWE Champ Dean Ambrose at WM32, and could easily use that as his excuse for coming back...

My personal wish is that as Rollins and Reigns jockey for rematch position (one-on-one vs. three-way, who gets first dibs, etc.), we execute a much needed double-turn, using the Co-Controllers of RAW: Rollins somehow falls out of favor with Steph/HHH, and Reigns somehow falls into their favor (all while Shane reveals he's always liked Rollins)... and then this easily ties into the brand split, since Shane likely gets one show and Steph the other, all while Ambrose is the champ and works best without making any alliances or kissing any asses.... if that's how you align the pieces, you can do a ton of interesting stufff that ultimately results in a split world title at or after SummerSlam...

We live in interesting times, my friends....

Most other things seem in a state of flux, as we're on the brink of the roster split.... only Cena vs. the Club is essentially etched in stone as an on-going issue; Styles got the necessary win in Chapter One of their feud, but Cena frequently gives away Chapter One only to dominate all later chapters, so we'll see where that goes.... my guess is that the Club keep running the numbers game on Cena, until such time as Cena forms a Voltron with someone (New Day make the most sense; but it could also be a big boost for Enzo & Cass), and we mix and match for a few weeks before our next singles match....

All of the other 5 awesome guys from the MitB Match are essentially starting over, but at the same time, it feels like they've been fighting each other forever, too, and are just waiting for the split and the chance to gravitate towards the top of one brand or the other, rather than accumulating on the mid-card.... all titleholders are in the clear for Whatever.... Rusev crushed Titus, next please... Charlotte won a tag match, and after said tag match, Becky and Nattie started their own feud; Sasha Banks at SummerSlam seems too perfect NOT to do it.... New Day fended off all 3 challengers last night, but a more focused/straight up New Day/Club feud might work nicely, as mentioned above.... and Miz is still taking time to film a movie and phoning in his promos, which is a perfectly valid move for his character, so long as he's back to jumpstart something at or just after the split....

Since WWE did make a big fat hairy deal out of announcing the details of the Draft, expect more and more focus of the show to deal with Shane vs. Steph, and exactly how the two brands will operate (second tag titles? second women's title? I sure hope not on both counts).... as part of the harmless sideshow fun, I continue to expect past GMs to pop in to "audition"... Vickie and Johnny Ace are the two who'd fit that mold in the same way as Teddy Long (that is, they are impossible to take seriously, so they don't detract from the actual importance of the brand split the way a "legitimate" or beloved authority figure would)....

That is all. End communication....

The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome. So discuss, debate, and rate!

Coming off the high of the closing moments of last nights show I'm setting my expectations low for tonights Raw to be considered a success. So long as Dean doesn't get cheated out of the title somehow tonight I'll be a happy man.

There was just too much real, and he absorbed too much.

Edit: Yay! Ryder gets to start a feud with Baron Corbin! No, I'm not delusional AT ALL.

Then they formed Submission Sorority, then someone did a simple internet search and saw all the porn that came up under that label, then they realized how badly they fucked up by not doing a simple internet search of their own first, then they was quickly became Team PCB. Rusev should have beat up Titus #2 and Titus #3 last night on principle for their dad pulling a George Foreman egomania baby-naming on them. Don't blame me, blame yer pa.

I liked that segment though. Russo said on Austin's podcast last week that he never believes that the guys in the ring never seem to be in a real fight, trying to win. That was pretty physical.

I don't know if they had a good match yesterday or not, it seemed WWE knew the basketball game was about to end, and told those two guys to wrestle til it was over. But I thought that was a good segment to keep the feud going.

You were surprised??

I guess sarcasm doesn't translate well over text....

Edit: I gotta say, Seth is pretty damned good with the facial expressions... the look on his face after Dean's flash Dirty Deeds on Roman was pretty perfect.

I'm only surprised by how fast they set it up. Figured we'd have a few more weeks. Always remember Janerd = /s. And probably this--->

Also, Holy Golly this is a real Hooplefest on the Stone Cold podcast. SC already swore and apologized and it seems like A.J. and him are trying to out turbotwang each other. I anticipate banjo outro music and someone playin' one a' them empty 'XXX' marked shine jugs that make those 'HOO hoo HOO hoo' sound when you blow on them, daddeh.

Speaking of which, Steve Austin and AJ Styles discussing TNA and Dixie Carter on the WWE Network. Pretty surreal.

Also, kind of interesting that they showed quite a few photos of AJ (along with guys like Joe, Daniels, and Kazarian) from his time in TNA.

I was kinda surprised how freely they spoke about that stuff too. At this point I'm pretty sure Vince could offer Dixie a free Network subscription and a case of Marlboros and the TNA tape library would be his.

Somewhere Dixie is weeping in joy just because, even if they dissed her on the podcast, they finally mentioned TNA on a WWE production. Next up, Vince offers them free lifetime coffee in exchange for their archive and she jumps up and says "it's a deal!".

I'm glad they had the Xavier reaction.

New Day/ Wyatts is gonna be tricky to get right if they don't go more serious overall. The New Day can benefit from goinng through some darkness and finding their positivity at the end.

They Wyatts can't get sucked into bootyshaking lightness and remain what they are.

At some point they can do the Kane trombone moment, but that's not nearly now.

Gonna be pretty fucked up booking-wise if Abe Froman who couldn't be knocked down by Big Show or Reigns when he first arrived can all of a sudden gets tossed all over the ring by Big E. Not sure if anyone mentioned this to Creative but suddenly having your terrifying gay-spooky stable be made to look stupid by a pandering and capering clown act like New Day really doesn't make much sense.
