Obama Goes Full 1984

https://theintercept.com/2017/01/13/obama-opens-nsas-vast-trove-of-warrantless-data-to-entire-intelligence-community-just-in-time-for-trump/

Obama Opens NSAs Vast Trove of Warrantless Data to Entire Intelligence Community, Just in Time for Trump

With only days until Donald Trump takes office, the Obama administration on Thursday announced new rules that will let the NSA share vast amounts of private data gathered without warrant, court orders or congressional authorization with 16 other agencies, including the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security.

The new rules allow employees doing intelligence work for those agencies to sift through raw data collected under a broad, Reagan-era executive order that gives the NSA virtually unlimited authority to intercept communications abroad. Previously, NSA analysts would filter out information they deemed irrelevant and mask the names of innocent Americans before passing it along.

The change was in the works long before there was any expectation that someone like Trump might become president. The last-minute adoption of the procedures is one of many examples of the Obama administration making new executive powers established by the Bush administration permanent, on the assumption that the executive branch could be trusted to police itself.

Executive Order 12333, often referred to as twelve triple-three, has attracted less debate than congressional wiretapping laws, but serves as authorization for the NSAs most massive surveillance programs far more than the NSAs other programs combined. Under 12333, the NSA taps phone and internet backbones throughout the world, records the phone calls of entire countries, vacuums up traffic from Google and Yahoos data centers overseas, and more.

Why the fuck does nobody from either side ever talk about this shit on social media? It's mind blowing how the Left pretends it's not happening, and the Right seems content to let it slide, because "gubment bad, but terror worse."

Two thoughts

1. Why would you talk about it on the interweb, knowing the government is reading all our stuff?

2. Wait a week and liberals will be screaming like ...liberals... About it.

1. To spread awareness. There's nothing wrong (or self defeating) in posting about it.

2. False. This story will gain about as much traction as my truck on a sheet of ice.

In fact, the only person I can think of that will get upset by this is Alex fucking Jones. Feel free to call him a liberal on Twitter and see his brain explode.

I would guess that most people aren't bothered because they had assumed that was the way things were already. The 'everything you do is being watched' thing has long been a running joke on the Internet. Our popular culture has depicted government and law enforcement hacking everything known to man and spying on people willy nilly (seriously, Garcia on Criminal Minds just hacks anyone she wants with two flicks of her fingers and no one even bats an eye about a warrant, ever).

I'm not saying any of that's right. I'm also not a conspiracy theorist who believes that pop culture has been lulling us into a false sense of security with such things. I think our politics have simply showed us, especially this year, that a lot of people are just perfectly comfortable with living under an authoritarian state, so long as that state looks like them (or is just a bit orange by comparison).

Not me, man. For what's it's worth this is the only conspiracy theory I believe in, and it's backed up by almost 200 years of Russian intelligence running rings around the West. I believe that both Assange and Snowden are Russian agents and have been for a very long time. I also believe that Wikileaks and pretty much the entire leak community is a Russian operation. The likes of Greenwald aren't, but they're so consumed by antipathy towards the United States that they effectively fill the role of useful idiots/fellow travelers and end up serving Russian interests as a result of it. Call me crazy if you want but I think the Russians have been neck-deep in a lot of things, including a role in Sept 11, 2001. They are still our rivals as much as they were during the Cold War and their activities in influencing the 2016 election are merely the most recent example of what they get up to.

It's not crazy because it doesn't depend on UFO's or any Jews who worked in the WTC not showing up on 9/11. It's really based in historical fact, especially about Russian capabilities and intentions. Look at it this way: by 1943 the Soviets had agents penetrated deep inside the high command of the Third Reich, probably even inside Hitler's inner circle. So much intelligence was getting back to Moscow that the Red Army was aware of German orders and battle plans even before German generals in the field were. In addition, thanks to the Cambridge spy ring traitors in Britain, the Soviets also picked up and interrogated/tortured/killed every single OSS/CIA/MI6 agent that the US and the British tried to insert into Eastern Europe; from the late 1940's to the early 1960's almost every bit of "information" the US received (because they believed their agents were still alive) was useless deceptive garbage. In light of things like this that show what pros the Russians are at this game how difficult would it be for today's Russia to set up something like Wikileaks with the mere aim of creating dissent inside the US?

The Cold War didn't end, dawg. It just went into a bit of a lull for about fifteen years. And now, with what happened in the election, it's back in full force. The leaks, hacks, and cyber-attacks are just the front it's being fought on now.

Correct. And for as much as a hard charging dick as he was, especially to gays during the Lavender scare, Joe McCarthy wasn't wrong aboot the Commie menace. If you ever want to get really conspiritorial regarding Commie infiltration in all aspects of 'Murican life, ask yourself why Hitler and his crew are considered the be all, end all of evil that has ever operated on this earth. Of course they were awful, but ol' Adolph n' Pals only operated for around 12 years, with 3-4 being the Oscar winning war movie years. But they wouldn't have been fit to work 3rd shift in Stalin's gulags or Mao's purges. Wear a Hitler shirt or any Nazi gear and you'll likely get your teeth Chicleted out of your mouth or bitched about on Twatter. Che, Mao, and Fidel's cap are trendy items/symbols that are either celebrated when worn or met with indifference by people that have no idea who they are. 'We will sell the West the rope they use to hang themselves' comes to mind.

The Chinese are still more than nominally Communist, only forced to keep up via the intrusion of modern Western Capitalism. And much like there is still warmongering neocon garbage like John McCain* doddering around the halls of the Senate, bet a few rubles that, like Pad mentioned, there are old KGB warhorses whispering in Vlad's ears about the old days. Y'know, Vlad Putin, ex-KGB agent?

The Cold War indeed never ended. It's just that the Big Dawg took it's eye off the ball jerking it to Lee Greenwood and Toby Keith albums in Pax Americana ecstasy while the sundry Axises of Eviles reorganized their operations to take a bite at a later date. Which, in my opinion, is to the delight of what Ike warned about long ago regarding the Military Industrial Complex. War is good business for them. Or did you think perpetually blowing up People of the Sand on a near constant basis was somehow protecting you and yours?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for blowin' people up real gud, but, like, have a clear and present national security emergency and an even clearer plan to fuck their shit up and then leave. Otherwise spend the rest of your days seeing your Granny groped by some low IQ vindictive former high school bully 'security' goon at the airport.

*Inb4 ZOMG! how dare you! War hero! He's the utterly nepotized and protected son and grandson of Admirals, killed people on an aircraft carrier by firing missles while on deck, armed 'rebels' a.k.a. ISIS in Syria, and crashed planes like I crash posts with gifs. Fuck 'em.

I'm thinking the Russians have control over the networks MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS & NBC.

For the last 25 years or so they have been leading our great country towards the great buffalo drop.

Only 25? C'mon merc, they're more ambitious than that! Inb4 yeah but Faux Nooz!!! I don't like 'em neither for potentially different reasons, but Gutfield, Stossel, Cavuto, and Baier are pretty cool.

Anywho, re-railing to Illuminati Lizardmen reading my thoughts and stealing my vital essence to power their child sacrifice machines...

I'm glad I mostly grew up before the dark times, before the Algorithms. As of now though, everything you do online is being copied, collated, and filed away, ready to be recalled at a moments notice by ??? for the purposes of ??? And soon, with the advent of things like Alexa and smart homes with interactive audio/visual capabilities, who's to say what future vulnerabilities to those systems will compromise you and your family's safety by parties either unknown to you and/or your government acting in your 'best interests' or the 'best interests' of the State.

Good luck thinking your political party will be able to put their boot to the neck of your rivals in perpetuity when that pendulum swings all the way back in your face using all the laws and mandates enacted by your team that you never imagined would be used against you. Hence Trumpster and payback being a bitch.

Also, for those worried aboot the NSA getting into yo bidness and gubment intrusion into your life, go ahead and take a long gander at that portable GPS tracking device that can record video and audio that you carry with you wherever you go that you use to call the wife to ask what's for dinner or secretly jerk off with when she's not looking. The tech is wonderful and exceedingly helpful, but please be aware that it can be used against you if you're not paying attention.

And for my next helpful post I will be reporting on how the food is in the FEMA camp I'll soon be sent to. Lol, j/k I'd be happy to go 'cause I'm tired of cleaning up Parky the Dad's piss and shit every day. But I digress...

So former Prez Obama, in the day before he added the former, ordered a $221,000,000 payment to Palestinians under the guise of "humanitarian aid. Not sure what the proper channel is for funneling $221,000,000 to a middle eastern organization that frequently engages in conflict with one of your biggest allies...oh wait...that's right. He left Israel high and dry at the UN.

Opinion to follow. That feels illegal. Opinion concluded.

Maybe some "reporter" should chase what actually happened instead of the what if BS the press seems to focus in on.

ETA link to something other than FOX NEWS because...well above...

http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-queitly-sends-221-million-to-palestine-2017-1

I'd think the link might die, when they fix the typo.

merc,

Not sure if you heard, but we elected a new president. He was inaugurated last Friday. You can stop posting about the black, socialist, Muslim community organizer from Kenya now.

Time to start worrying about all the horrible shit Mr. Trump is going to do now.

CC,
Let's say you had a job. And in this job you had a place where you put stuff that was valuable. I know both are stretches but think really really hard. ready?

Someone else who works there, on their last day, takes your valued item! Worse they don't tell anyone they are taking it. with me still?

When it comes to light that your valued item is missing you make sure everyone knows about it. Better yet, you tell them who did it.

Their response, dude forget about it she/he doesn't work here anymore.

BTW,
I was posting about our former President. I never viewed him as a "black, socialist, Muslim community organizer from Kenya". Please don't confuse me with someone else.

I'm wondering where the posters that jump into other threads typing loudly about obfuscating when bringing up Obama in a Trump thread are with their typical outrage at how you have done just that in reverse. I'm sure they all aren't fucking hypocrites.

You're not upset Obama gave your "vaulable item" to someone. You're upset WHO he gave it to. You would have been fine if he gave $221 million to Israel or Canada or Taiwan.

You're mad he gave it to people you don't like.

We provide billions in aid to dozens of country. We even give aid to countries whose economies are just fine - like Israel:

Since the October War in 1973, Washington has provided Israel with a level of support dwarfing the amounts provided to any other state. It has been the largest annual recipient of direct U.S. economic and military assistance since 1976 and the largest total recipient since World War ll. Total direct U.S. aid to Israel amounts to well over $140 billion in 2003 dollars. Israel receives about $3 billion in direct foreign assistance each year, which is roughly one-fifth of America's entire foreign aid budget. In per capita terms, the United States gives each Israeli a direct subsidy worth about $500 billion per year. This largesse is especially striking when one realizes that Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to South Korea or Spain.

From thehill.com:

"Congress had initially approved the spending. But two House Republicans, Reps. Ed Royce (Calif.), who serves as the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Kay Granger (Texas), who is on the powerful Appropriations Committee, put holds on the aid money because the Palestinian Authority was seeking membership in international organizations.

Former Secretary of State John Kerry notified some lawmakers about the decision to release the money on Thursday, the AP reports.

The $221 million sent to the Palestinian Authority is intended to provide humanitarian aid in ares such as Gaza and the West Bank, as well as to support political reforms there."

What a monster Obama was, huh? Giving money for humanitarian aid and ending corruption.
