OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (October 16, 2017)
Tonight on RAW: WWE continues to serve up big time free TV, in the hopes of both staying relevant while Monday Night Football sucks a lot of
the air out of the room, and -- on this particular night -- making sure fans are engaged just 6 days before the TLC PPV...
To wit: the months-long war between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman goes to yet another level, as they face off for the first time in a steel cage
match... and while the cage gimmick is intended to keep this as a one-on-one match, the fact of the matter is that this match exists to provide the
final hype for Sunday's Shield Reunion vs. Strowman/Miz/The Bar TLC Match.... so, uh, the cage probably does a very poor job of keeping things
contained is my guess... especially when there will be ladders scattered about, to aid in climbing and scaling things....
I'm actually looking forward to seeing what kind of wacky schmozz of a non-finish they wind up doing with all 7 guys... there is also talk of a
separate Ambrose/Rollins vs. The Bar tag match taking place tonight, with Miz getting off relatively easy (MizTV with an as-yet-unannounced
guest)...
All this actually underscores just how much of a one-trick pony Sunday's show will be, which is unusual for the annual TLC PPV.... usually, 3 or
4 gimmicky brawls has a pretty good top-to-bottom line-up, but so far, only one match has officially been assigned a stipulation: and it's the
main event 7-person tag that already includes just about all of RAW's top acts, too (minus, of course, the Professional Man of Leisure Brock
Lesnar)...
That leaves only 2 titles on the line come Sunday... Alexa Bliss defends her title against Mickie James... and Kalisto defends his newly won
Cruiserweight Title against Enzo Amore.... since Ladder Matches require something to hang above the ring, one of these two must, logically, get the
Ladder stip... I almost hope it's the women, but you can sort of see WWE wanting to do the whole "Enzo is afraid of heights" thing as they
continue to ritually humiliate him on a weekly basis...
That would still leave -- at the very least -- a Tables Match to be assigned, and possibly a Chairs Match (though never once has the "Chairs Match"
gimmick added a whole lot to a match; Big Show's giant folding chair being maybe the one exception)... presently, the only other official match
for Sunday is Asuka's debut against Emma, but that one's already going to ultra-violent enough with any gimmicks.... poor Emma...
It's clear that WWE intended for Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt/Sister Abigail to be a major supporting match on the card... unfortunately for them:
last week's revelation that Bray IS Sister Abigail was incredibly stupid and instantly robbed it of any gravitas.... oh, and also:
nobody's seen Bray Wyatt in 2 weeks (he has missed all house shows and TV since the October 2 RAW), and rumors are swirling about him, his
brother (Bo Dallas), and Neville all wanting to leave WWE, so, uhhhh..... yeah....
If Balor/Wyatt falls apart, as these rumors suggest it might, TLC stands at 4 matches, and few prospects among existing issues to be suddenly expanded
into a PPV-caliber contests.... obviously, there are plenty of extra players to create an extra Womens Division Match, or Cruiserweight Match, but
nothing with particularly compelling backstory, and certainly no reason to attach a Tables Match gimmick.... maybe, just maybe, you could generate
just enough interest in Jason Jordan/Matt Hardy vs. Gallows/Anderson to justify a Tables Match, but honestly, that just about it....
The only other thing that would count as a going concern on RAW is Elias Sampson making life difficult for Apollo Crews and Titus O'Neil.... and
we've already done 3 iterations of that match, so any attempt to tap that for a PPV match would really be milking the he-goat...
We'll see how it all turns out, but at least in this case, the equine starring in this particular one trick pony is a damned fine one, and
I'm perfectly OK with tonight's show and Sunday's PPV just focusing heavily and leaning upon those 7 men...

Shame Jeff is out, you'd think the Hardyz would have been an easy choice for a ladder match. Since it seems WWE doesn't care about solo
Matt, I think they should just go with a high flying spotfest with 6 CW guys. Cedric Alexander and Gran Metallik have shown they have the skills to
pop the audience with awe-inspiring moves even if the audience don't connect with them personally while the crowd is familiar enough wtih
Kendrick, Tozawa, and Gallagher. Thrown in Mustafa Ali and it should be a nice opener.
Last year Kalisto gave us the only entertaining Chairs match in history against Corbin, maybe he can work a miracle again with Enzo.
No clue with the Tables match, Mickie vs Alexa and Asuka's debut don't really need it, doesn't fit with Balor vs Bray and it'd
be sort of a waste with Elias vs Apollo.

Maybe we can respectfully request the retirement of the "Chairs" match? I might have even watched last year's TLC event, and I don't
think I can tell you what a 'chairs' match is. I know what makes table matches different from the norm, and what makes a ladder match
special. A chair-match is.. like, you gotta put the guy in a chair to win? If it were a wheelchair, it would make a much more cost-effective version
of the ambulance-match, but I digress.

The solution is to make the competitors face off in a rocking chair building competition, to be judged by Bray Wyatt. That shouldn't be too hard

minute recap of the previous week as delivered by Enzo.

I'm not sure whether Cesaro's insistence on cutting promos with his new mouthguard in is a horrible miscalculation or a genius move.

Also it�s amazing how easy some issues are to fix. Enzo as a heel? Perfect. Sheamus lost as a mid level heel? Team him with Cesaro. Reigns getting
