I don't mean to be hyperbolic when I say this but I understand that it may very well come across that way:
Lucha Underground isn't just my favourite wrestling show, it's one of my favourite TV shows ever. Period. Top 5. Seriously.
It is such a mish mash of everything that I am personally into wrapped up in a wrestling show. It has a cohesive narrative that leaves itself enough
flexibility to guage fan reaction (see Hernandez's storyline last year - brought in as a triumphant face, ends season as an arrogant Batista
style heel thanks to the crowd reaction).
It's production values are through the roof good. Robert Rodriguez's hand is very firmly planted into the overall visual aesthetic of the
show.
Some may disagree with me here but I also love the commentary team of Matt Striker and Vampiro. They come across like great friends just shooting the
shit over their favourite wrestling show. They do this at the same time as selling the storyline that's going on.
I strongly recommend that you watch this show from the very beginning (first season is 40 episodes long and season 2 just started last night).
On a side note - I've been curious if The Rick has ever watched this show. If so, I'd really like to hear his thoughts on it.

He's not into it. Judging from what he said when he closed down the 2015 LU thread. Super not into it.
But, hey, speaking of that post, why don't we make this the triumphant 2016 LU thread since the first episode of season 2 was last night? That
was the plan, I believe.
First ep was great, btw.

Just read Rick's closing comments in the last thread. Yikes! He pretty much has the exact opposite opinion of me. Oh well - different strokes I
guess.
To add a further response to NobleDictator - I stand by my original comments that this show is well worth seeking out. That said, I don't know
your personal tastes when it comes to wrestling and I have to admit that I was extremely surprised that Rick seems to greatly dislike all the very
things that I personally love about the show.
Whichever way you swing, I am confident you will know whether it's your thing within 15 minutes of the first episode you seek out.

anyone know where I can find Season one....preferably on the WEB....Netflix...WWE has ruined my TV watching habits :-D Always thought that a
Wrestling promotion should approach Netflix.
Im a little apprehensive, as I really think my wrestling tastes are very similar to Rick from reading his reviews over the years....still I have heard
great things about it.. if I can find season 1 I may give it a shot.

So I have been a member of these forums since 2002. I've followed OORick since around 1996. I found you OORick through micasa wrestling website
run by your buddy Mike who would always mention Rick from news from Dayton. I haven't posted in over 13 years but have been lurking these
forums for the majority of those years.
I have agreed with about 90-95% of your wrestling opinions or analysis and really enjoy what you, OORick, have to say. I was also very curious to know
what your opinion would be about Lucha Underground. I was in shock over what you wrote about the show. This time you are dead wrong and completely off
base. Your mini tirade about Lucha Underground is kind of insulting and is what has brought me out of hiding. There is no way you watched more than
one episode of Lucha Undergrond when you were in Texas. I honestly believe if you watched this show either from the very beginning or started at the
Aztec Warfare episode or started watching the show at the start of the trios tournament, you would totally be hooked on this show as is most everyone
else who has watched the show.
I'm a huge WWE fan. I been to 3 Wrestlmanias, (12, 16, 26) plus watched (mania 3,4 on closed circuit tv in middle school), been to a couple
summerslams, a Royal Rumble, countless of tv tapings during the attitude era. I also been to many WCW events during the Monday night wars, several
Nitros and PPVs I've never stopped watching regardless how terrible the product had become. I am a huge mark/smark, call me what you want but I
am a true fan.
Lucha Underground is the Breaking Bad of pro wrestling. This is episodic TV at its finest. It makes you want to come back for more. It makes you not
be able to wait until next week for the next episode. Let me very clear OORick, You will be doing yourself a huge disservice if you fail to watch
this pro wrestling show. Period! It is the best most entertaining pro wrestling show on television right now by far! I challenge anybody to say
otherwise. I know this a bold a statement but I have not heard or felt this kind of buzz over a pro wrestling product since Hall and Nash showed up in
WCW.
Lucha Underground is going to take off and is going to take off big. I recommend any of you pro wrestling fans getting on board if you haven't
already and coming along for the ride. OORick I recommend you hop on board as well. I would hate for the owner of in my opinion, one of the best pro
wrestling websites and forums, miss out on ride that Lucha Underground is about to take us on.
For those who don't have el Rey and would like to know where to watch the show. I can send you a link to a couple of sites that stream the
entire 1st season and are currently showing the second season. PM me if you can do that here.

To anybody who isn't into it, the show had growing pains like almost every other tv show. Some wrestlers were shaking off ring rust or adapting
to the show's unique style, tv crew was figuring out camera angles, and the commentators were finding their groove.
Go on Youtube and find a match called Aztec Warfare, I feel this is when the show hit another gear and never looked back. You get a feel for all the
characters, caught up on their backstories, and it's really, really fucking good.
Anyway, if this will be the Season 2 thread. Any thoughts on the major game changer that is Catrina and her Death Crew running the damn place? Mil
Muertes throne is fucking awesome.

Well if yall are going to use this thread in the future to talk about it please put a huge spoilers tag on it....cause yall have me excited for season
1 now and wont' start season 2 till I do that.
And OO Rick you have been by far my favorite and only source for wrestling opinion now for a few years...., I get it if its not your taste....and
makes me skeptical...there is ALOT of love coming for that show.....id love for you to repost your thoughts on it...I may have skipped it because I
didn't' want to take on a new show. I know you probably dont' know me...or notice me as you have a core group that posts
here....but I am glad you came out of your health issues for the better, and really do look forward to your stuff on here. Followed you from Scott
Keith who just became so bitter of the product and Im glad I did. I know its probably a big chore sometimes all the writing you and your staff odes
on this site, and impressed you have been able to do it consistently for as long as you have.
i love this board too because it has a little bit of everything for opinions here, and I appreciate that. So to you Rick....if you ever think your
wasting time with this, know that there are alot of folks like me that appreciate it.

The general rule in the past is that it's fair game to talk about anything that has aired on tv. I usually give another 24 hours to be polite
for people who have DVR'd it but it isn't a spoiler if the episode had been broadcast.
That said, do yourself a favor and avoid Wikipedia. Season 2 has mostly, if not 100%, been taped already and someone who attends the tapings updates
the wiki pages for LU and all the wrestlers with title changes, etc months before the episodes air.

HOW DARE HE HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION THAN YOU?!?! Let's string him up and beat him. jesus, get over yourself. i think LU is crap also. If you
like it, awesome. you're not alone. i tried to get into it, and couldn't get past the shit acting and daytime soap opera storylines.
the in-ring stuff is solid for the most part, but that's about it. Vampiro on commentary causes me to mute the tv.
and yes, i've seen all the shows that you listed that were supposed to "hook" me. pass.

Calm down dRob. Of course you can have a different opinion and/or suck up to Rick. I just don't believe that you or Rick gave the show a real
chance. By chance I mean you have to watch more than one or a couple shows scattered throughout the season. This true is episodic TV. You should try
and watch in order for it to make sense. As far as soap opera storylines, HA, what the hell do you think WWE has been doing for years. Or let me
guess, you don't watch WWE either and only watch Indy show. Give me a break.
So yea lets string him up and beat him, since somehow to you that is what I was suggesting in my post.

If you don't have El Ray Network, go here to watch Lucha Underground:
WatchWrestling.to
I live in South Korea and I haven't missed a single show thanks to this website. It usually takes 10-12 hours after the episode originally airs
for the video links to show up. For instance, the season 2 premiere page wasn't up until about 10 hours after it aired on El Ray on Wednesday
night in the United States, but even then some of the links to the various video players weren't working. However, the links were working around
24 hours after it aired on El Ray.
My advice is to wait about 24 hours before trying to access the video. Normally, I do that, but Iwas super excited for the premiere and tried to get
it earlier (and then experienced problems getting it). My favourite video player is Cloudy video (but there isn't a Cloudy video link for the
season 2 premiere). Vodlocker and Daily Motion links are usually the next best. I find that the video quality is excellent, especially when pausing as
soon as it starts and waiting a few minutes before pressing play again. The site usually cuts TV commercials out, too, condensing it to 45-46 minutes
for most episodes. Most of the old episode links should still work. Last week, I went back and re-watched the last five episodes in anticipation of
the debut.
The season 2 debut was excellent. I will say more about it later, but not now because it is almost midnight and I need to get my beauty sleep.
Enjoy the lucha my friends!
Also, if you are not already a Believe who is familiar with what goes on inside of the Temple, and you would like to just jump into it without
watching all of the old episodes, this video is helpful:
Enjoy the lucha!

I try to keep an open mind regarding wrestling products, especially since I'm well into my cynical/jaded/seen-it-all phase of wrestling fandom.
That's why it's so frustrating that WWE's main-roster product leaves me so cold. Conversely, Lucha Underground is a ton of fun to
watch and I'm thrilled that season two is underway.

THIS!
SO MUCH THIS!
I remember trying to look something up and learning about the creation of the Trios Titles a few weeks before the episode when they were first
mentioned even aired. Since then, I have avoided Wikipedia as if it were the plague.

I had the main event of Ultima Lucha spoiled for me by looking up Mil Muertes on Wikipedia in April. Ultima Lucha aired August 5. I want to punch

LU is definitely worth checking out, IMHO.
I've love so many aspects of the show. It can be perceived by many as super cheesy but if you loved WWF in the 80's it's like that
x100 and much better production values.
You just have to go into the show knowing that it's treated like a TV show with wrestling on it. Not a wrestling show on TV. There's a
narrative and crazy "mystical" things happen and you just gotta take it in like if you were watching a sci-fi show. If you go into it like that,
then I think you'll really appreciate it.
Or it may not be your cup of tea and you may hate it. I don't know your tastes.
But it's definitely something different, and I think it's a lot of fun.
***
BTW, did anyone actually watch the first episode of S2? I thought it was a lot of fun but SPOILERS...
.... I was a bit surprised they took the Gift of the Gods title off of Fenix so quickly. Don't get me wrong, I like Cuerno, and the reason I
wasn't completely surprised is bc he showed up on Sportscenter with Mundo and Mysterio, and from the clips they showed, made me think he was
going to be a big focus of this season, but I thought Fenix would get pushed for a big rematch with Muertes after their season-long feud last year.
That finish by Cuerno was sick though.
I liked the triple threat between Angelico, Son of Havoc and Ivelisse. The main event was what it was, but it was good story set up and tied in a few
things from last season, so it served it's purpose.
What does everyone think about what they're doing with Vampiro? I thought he was going to be Pentagon's manager but they kind of
separated them now... I guess it makes sense because I was wondering how they'd reconcile Vampiro still being commentator and evil/crazy, unless
they just removed him, but he's an important part of the voice of the show, so I guess it kind of makes sense but I'm curious how they go
forward with him and Pentagon.
Fun show overall, looking forward to next week!

I'm not going to try to argue anyone else into liking LU, but it is everything I like about wresting and the opposite of what makes 90% of WWE
product boring to me.
I was surprised they took the gift of the gods off Fenix too, at first, but it makes sense they're now starting the season with all the belts on
heels. That's the dark direction of the season. I won't be surprised if all the titles end up on faces by the end.
I dig the Vamp/Striker duo so much on commentary that I don't care how they got back to it. I do like that Vamp is subtly playing up the
medication angle by being a little too happy. He told Matt he loved him and later told him he looked like sugar. I feel like the two of them are
genuinely having fun together and it's a huge part of my enjoyment of the show.
The main event worked for me. I really dig that they have men and women compete against each other as equals. The match had to be lopsided because of
the size difference. And the Pentagon Jr run in at the end opens up interesting possibilities, particularly if they reveal that the two of them are
real life brothers.

My biggest question out of the first episode was if Matt Striker was picking up Vampiro from the hospital, why was his car under a tarp? I mean he was
leaning against it like he drove up and was waiting for him.

With their mutual love of profanity and disdain for Lucha Underground, it dawned on me that we've never seen OORick and Jim Cornette in the same

Striker took the bus there. Vamp's drivers license expired while he was inside.
Striker was there to drive him and the car home and provide emotional support.

So Ive watched a few of these, its a shock for sure to my wrestling senses. There is alot I like about it, I even like their treatment of women and
giving them somewhat equal footing. I like just because a character doesn't have music to the ring doesn't mean he will lose. I like
that most of the matches seem to matter.
Maybe im in the minority here, but I even liked their commentary team, and the backstory they give to their wrestlers. From the few episodes I saw.
I think Id like it more if not everyone had a mask, but I understand it is Lucha Underground. I love the Aztec feel too it, love the gift of the gods
title, and the way they associate Pride it really makes each match seem more important.
The vignettes are wierd, very cheesy and over the top...I find those a bit of a turn off. Ive watched a few and I really can't tell if I like
it or not, some of it is I just dont' know all the characters yet. Alot of the wrestlers all look the same because its all choreographed and
jumpy and flippy. I like jumpy and flippy but there has to be contrast, and there isn't that much contrast.
The violence is fun, very ECWish. I love the look of the show and how it feels dirty and underground and is very unique. TNA should have been able
to look like this. I think they need to bring in more variety, English wrestlers, Japanese, African...so that we have a clash of styles which they
flirt with..... but in the end theres so much lucha its hard to see much distinguishing.
With that said, from what I have seen, there is ALOT to like about this product, and it seems to me it clearly can be a viable alternative to WWE that
TNA wishes it had of been. I just think a few tweaks are needed.
