OOfficial Discussion Thread for: RAW (February 29, 2016)
Tonight on RAW: Expect the Shane McMahon/Undertaker Battle for Ultimate Corporate Power to be front and center.... not only did Shane provide
an unprecedented level of buzz (and ratings) with his surprise return to "fix" WWE after his other family members kinda wrecked up the joint, but
this week the Undertaker will ALSO be present to provide a whole other element to the story....
Specifically, that story is "Undertaker has absolutely ZERO reason to do Vince McMahon's dirty work".... at least, he doesn't have one
YET.... that's where things could get interesting, as Taker could conceivably force Vince into accepting Taker's own conditions, or the
exact opposite could happen, and Vince could use his power to coerce Taker into accepting.... the thing that would make most sense would be Vince
adding a stipulation that if Taker loses, HE'S FIIIIIIIIIIIIRED, introducing the concept of a forced retirement.... given that many smarks were
thinking about WM32 as a possible Last Ride for Taker, I think it's a very valid storyline element to use... plus, since Shane is in charge if
Taker loses, he can just undo the forced retirement.... this ain't gonna be about Thesz-caliber grapplingsmanship, this is gonna be a balls-out
glorious Sports Entertainment Spectacle, so I say go big, or go home!
Shane/Taker will necessarily be front and center, because neither Roman Reigns nor Brock Lesnar are expected to appear tonight.... Reigns is selling
the beatdown he took last Monday (he WILL be in the building, so a faux "via satellite" thing might happen; and I guess WWE could always change
their minds and put him out there for a very brief surprise run-in), and Brock's just being Brock on his special Brock Schedule... that means
WM32's other two big drawing cards will have to be handled entirely by Triple H and Dean Ambrose.... HHH is apparently purposely not having any
matches until WM, so that leaves him just cutting mroe promos and being a dick (to be fair, he cut a great promo on SD, complete with props and
Rolling Stones quotes, and a genuine desire to MAKE the crowd boo him, no matter how hard he had to work)... but Ambrose could use a strong
performance to make up for being Brock's ragdoll last week...
Tonight will be Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks, to determine the #1 Contender to Charlotte's Women's Title... originally, WWE had its eye on
a Sasha/Charlotte title match for WM32, but then that darned Becky had to go and get all over with the fans, as she provided the opposition as
Charlotte turned heel... a three-way would certainly work, and since Charlotte has already promised to be at ringside tonight, chicanery and
shenanigans could easily result in a no decision....
We're a week closer to WM32, but we still have no indication of exactly what IC Champ Kevin Owens has in mind for his #KOMania master plan...
perhaps he will reveal that info tonight? Or, maybe, he'll try to do the same thing he did on SD, and try to goad Ambrose into accepting his IC
rematch while Ambrose is still hurting... on Thursday, Ambrose wasn't in the building, selling those injuries, so Owens did a throwaway thingie
with Big Show, but Ambrose will be on hand tonight, and still not at 100%...
Looks like a total 180 degree change of plans, as that looming Jericho heel turn appears to be off, and Jericho sincerely wants to make a go of his
tag team with AJ Styles... word is, WWE wants to ride those two to WM, where they will challenge the New Day, with the story being that Jericho really
wants one last shot at WWE gold, and Styles wants his breakthrough "WM Moment" to be a title win... granted, that leaves a ton of established tag
teams on the outside looking in, but other than Usos vs. Dudleys, none of them have a resume worth of a WM match, and they can all be fodder for the
Andre Battle Royale...
Rusev is promising a "huge announcement" tonight... he's been 3rd String LoN (behind recent WWE Champ Sheamus and recent US Champ Alberto del
Rio), so maybe some kind of "reboot" to get him back to a featured star by WM? Or maybe it'll just be a declaration that he's also in
the Andre Battle Royale, and we'll all be underwhelmed....
Kalisto is US Champ, but is also still tagging regularly with Sin Cara... something's gotta give, and I still say Sin Cara being jealous of
Kalisto's success should be under consideration... otherwise, your best bet for WM32 would be a huge, high-flying multi-way match for the US
Title...
If WWE has any plans for Bray Wyatt at WM32, they need to spring those on us sooner than later.... man alive, the guy went from the likely opponent
for Brock Lesnar at WM to barely eeking out wins over WWE's over-the-hill gang...
John Cena continues to tweet about defying all medical science, so if he really is planning on making WM, he joins Bray in that "sooner than later"
category...
And lastly, tonight will feature the announcement that the Fabulous Freebirds will be entering the WWE Hall of Fame in April... no word on who will
give the induction, but Kevin von Erich would be a good bet (repaying the favor from when Michael Hayes inducted the entire von Erich family)....
That is all. End communication.
The flOOr is yours, OO Nation. Don't wait till after 11pm to post, either. Pre-show previewing and prognosticating is certainly welcome.
So discuss, debate, and rate!

I thought HHH was defending the title in a 3way with Brock and Bray on a network special?

If that's true, WWE's doing a damn fine job keeping it secret. It's only two weeks away, and the publicized card for March to
WrestleMania includes Brock vs. Sheamus.... I dunno about Bray.
Are you thinking of the MSG house show? That's not gonna be aired anywhere, but they're sneaking HHH into a tag match to make sure
he's got all the rust knocked off.

If Jammy Jam Garvin goes in, we riot.
Ok, I just chuck a tantie and smash my coffee cup.
Fine, it is plastic, but you get my point. The WCCW Freebirds (Hayes, Gordy, Roberts) that feuded with the Von Erichs are legend. The WCW Freebirds of
WCW (Hayes and Garvin) that were managed by Little Richard Marley (Rocky King, FFS) were a sad parody of over the hill and overweight rockers that
hung on too long and need to be purged from our collective conscious with the Men in Black neuralyzer.

Welp, you can probably put the Rusev thing down in the underwhelming category... as he announced that he'll give his shiny new Maserati
Granturismo to whom so ever can body slam him.
Soooooooo..... %100 chance he get's body slammed tonight?
Poor Reigns; Even the universe is against him... er, well not just the WWE Universe now... like the whole universe... Last week he took what looked to
be a pretty epic beat down from HHH, only for it to be somewhat undone by footage coming out of Saxton handing him a blood capsule, and word leaking
out that he was just getting surgery done for a deviated septum. Cena meanwhile not six months ago had his face legit destroyed and not only finished
the match, but won to boot.
Speaking of Cena, Stone Cold chimed in with his thoughts that while Cena is super-human in terms of recovery, shoulders are nothing to mess around
with, so it might be better if he's going to keep wrestling for several more years to shut it down.... What with the crazy work out vid's
and the cryptic tweets about re-assessing goals, it's hard to say if he'll be good to go or not. In either event, there's zero
chance he isn't at wrestlemania in some capacity, so if it isn't just for a show opening promo, it's time to get him out there soon
to set him up for whatever limited physical role he'll be involved in.... ie ref?
Seeing as how Taker was being a bit of a dick his last time out by sacking little Brock, and his years as a top heel, I don't know that you need
a whole lot out of him to pit him against Shane.... A seeming I'm on your side only for Shane to turn around into a out of nowhere choke slam or
low blow would do the trick. Otherwise I'm guessing it wouldn't come out of the blue for Kane to get involved in this some how... Both he
and Taker are in the twilight of their careers, so some kind of save, or assistance for Taker.... in short one last swan song for the brothers of
destruction....
Or should I say the Brothers of Dickstruction?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2wWRPIX2E0
Man, what kind of household were those two raised in?

The thing with Rusev could work great if they used it to bring up Samoa Joe. Joe shows up, nails Rusev with the muscle buster which is variation of a
slam anyway, and sets off a good rivalry. Rusev is actually pretty damn good as a wrestler and a villain. It's just that they've used him
in such a crappy manner since the endless feud with Ziggler wrapped up. Joe could change that, and open up all sorts of other possibilities, like
re-engaging hostilities with AJ too. Lots of win to be had here.
Nah. It'll be Ryback.

Makes sense to do the Taker thing with the Fired stuff, but it feels like overkill t even somewhat tease a Undertaker retirement, and really
won't do it much justice when they have to build up the Raw stip on top of it. Think of the months of highlight packages leading up to an
Undertaker retirement they'd probably want...feel like they'd be robbing themselves and fans of that future build up by daring to tease
it...let alone actually having us think for 24 hours Undertaker is retired.
Also creates a situation that Shane is completely booed. Already working against the idea that Undertaker would ever get booed at a Mania again...how
his career is on the line? Who would root for that? There has to be something to line it up better...

Like you said above, I've seen the advertisements around here for the tag match at MSG, but none of a title match. When I remembered the Toronto
show this week, I kind of thought they'd do the now-aborted Bray Wyatt/Wyatt member match there with Brock (since he's on the card) so
they can tie up that loose end of Brock letting them get away with eliminating him at the Rumble (which you would think his character would never just
let go). Not sure what that means for HHH...but I'm not exactly dying to see him wrestle more than at Mania...nor does it seem necessary.

Just putting two and two together here...but maybe Cena-Owens IV occurs at Mania? Either Owens gets his big win over Cena or Cena gets to do an IC
Challenge and either way we're happy.
Other manner for Owens I was thinking? Maybe the answer to the Undertaker issues. Taker sides with Shane and says he'll only represent
him...when Vince resists, Kevin Owens volunteers to side with Vince. And in that case, you can do the Undertaker career on the line (unites with
Shane as possibly both of their last nights in WWE) and you have a much more natural progression (and a better match - thought Shane vs. Taker will be
great as well). Face: Shane/Taker Heel: Owens/Vince. Creates a far better Battle of the Billionaires feel than the original.

For what it's worth they're kind of teasing someone "unexpected" for the Rusev slam contest tonight. After last week with Shane it could
be anyone. Someone notable for a slam, not just any kind of slam either, but an elite slam, a gold medal slam, an Olympic slam perhaps? If
this music hits Imma gonna shat myself and at least 80% of everyone else will too.

Ill try and make this as short and sweet as possible since I'm smack dab in the middle of a move right now but I think in regards to Undertakers
motivation for taking on Shane one thing that we aren't really taking into consideration is exactly WHAT is in the lockbox that Vince wants his
hands on.
Could it have anything to do with The Corporate Ministry? I do seem to remember that the official dissolution of The Ministry came via a promo by
Shane oh so many years back. Perhaps there's something that Vince might be able to leverage 'Taker with besides his career.
Aside from that, I have low expectations for the Rusev thing but thats not because of him, but more my doubts that WWE knows what to do with him.
As far as Brock not being in the house? I think Heyman and Ambrose could more than hold their own. In fact, I want to see them do something along the
lines of the Tyler and Lou scene from Fight Club. Maybe have The Dudleys act as a Brocksy-proxy and come down to beat up on ol' Dean and have
The Usos come out and make the save? Somebody in that family has to be helpful, right?
...Right?

Angle did just make some comments about not so much an official retirement, but that he was stepping away from the ring for the next year at least to
spend some time with his family.... Seems kind of suspicious and out of nowhere for a guy who hasn't wrestled in the intervening month since his
contract with TNA ended.
Let the wild speculation commence!
Honestly, what better argument do you need for wrestling inflation than the fact that 32 years ago at WM Big John Studd lost to Andre in a $15k body
slam challenge, and these days we're up to a $165k car. Next thing you know by Wrestlemania 40 guys will have to jump off of 180 Ft ladders to
impress us.... thankfully they'll all have rocketpacks and mandatory anti-concussion helmets though.

My wild no chance in hell it'll happen prediction: Triple H says yeah sure, Dean, you can have your title shot. At Wrestlemania. IF you beat
Brock Lesnar.
Edit: Yes I KNOW itd be a rehash of Daniel Bryan's WM30. Just let me dream!

You know...maybe its just me...but if they are going to do ambrose vs HHH, for the title, I wish Ambrose had of mentioned that HHH hadn't

Eh, Rock did something similar when he won it before he fought Cena the second time. Granted he had a rematch with Punk at Elimination Chamber, but he
totally went the 30 days and nothing really happened.
The more I think about it, the more I think Heel Roman is the only way to go. He's just not going to be the super face the way they are going,
and I even think they know that. So why not have Dean beat HHH on a Network special(Legitimizing the Network too), and get Dean/HHH/Roman in a Triple
Threat that way? Roman will get much more heat destroying Ambrose than HHH, and you have a ready-made storyline for the next 2/3 months after that.

Love the crowd chanting Triple Threat after the double pin of Sasha/Becky. They know what's up.
This is a tangent, but it's something I've noticed with all the woman called up from NXT. That Becky/Sasha match had a lot of sloppy
spots. It wasn't shit or a bad match, but those ladies were silky smooth in NXT before getting called up. I haven't seen a 5 star match
out of the lost of them since they got called up. What is it? Being nervous on the big stage? The agents micromanaging?

Maybe a month in between tapings lets them create and practice matches at the Performance Center over and over until they get it how they want it?
(Sure makes Eva Marie look even worse if so...).
