OOfficial Discussion Thread for: SmackDown LIVE, The Draftening! (July 19, 2016)
I concur that if WWE follows through on the job of making SD RAW's equal, I'll be treating it the same way as RAW (that is to say, no more
letting it sit on the DVR until Saturday or Sunday; same night, same level of engagement, everything!)... so I'll go ahead and return SD to
weekly threads on an interim basis.
Of course, if discussion is lacking, because 5 hours of wrestling on back-to-back nights is just too much for some of you, and you keep on
back-burnering SD, we can always shift back to the catch-all thread.
I'm quite confident tonight's show, at the very least, should generate tons of discussion. I've already done my preview, but
it's rather long and in-depth, so I'll just remind you that it's here: http://www.oowrestling.com/20160719oo.html
Absorb that, if it is your wont, but also feel free to take the discussion in your own directions, OO Nation!

An amendment to a few comments I made about how they might lay out tonight's show....
There will indeed be a big main event match between potentially the #1 and #2 pick: it's a WWE Title Rematch from last night's schmozzy no
decision, Dean Ambrose defending against Seth Rollins.
Also, after SD goes off the air, the Draft will, indeed, continue on the WWE Network, until it's concluded.

DK's Mock
1 - Rollins Raw
2 - Ambrose SD
3 - HHH SD
4 - Reigns Raw
5 - Cena Raw
6 - Owens Raw
7 - Orton SD
8 - Lesnar SD
9 - Charlotte Raw
10 - Balor Raw
11 - Wyatt Raw
12 - New Day SD
13 - Styles SD
Ok so this is impossible haha. Styles should probably be 7 spots higher. That said, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the out of nowhere
breakout star is Braun Stroman. I feel like the super heavyweights have gone overlooked in many of these mocks. Say what you will about workrate but
when in doubt most real drafts go with the biggest players possible. Can't teach size.

I actually enjoyed that staredown between Cass and Stroman last night on raw...first time I really thought Stroman brought something to the table.
That dude is massive huge and strong.

I'm planning on tuning into tonight because it's bound to be momentous...either for good or bad. After tonight, unless they rounded out
both shows with "can't miss" rosters (not "Take Kevin Owens and surround him with everyone people go 'meh' over"), I'm
only watching the show with the best roster. Not to create brand loyalty, but more because of what Rick alluded to: 5 hours of wrestling on
back-to-back days (8 on a PPV weekend...not even counting an hour of NXT) is a bit too much.

I must've overlooked or missed that part, but I was tickled a bit when Gallows tagged himself in off of Rowan and they exchange some of the
ol' stank-eye.
Speaking of The Wyatts: I'm curious if their omission as a "package deal" was put in place because they might be planning on splitting Lou
Carper off on his own while he's recovering from his injury? Besides Bray he's the only member of The Wyatts that has the charisma,
in-ring ability and all-around gravitas to make a singles run work. He wasn't doing too bad back before they got cold feet and (rightfully, IMO)
brought the family back together. Splitting Strowman and/or Rowan off from Bray at this point would be a death sentence for either of 'em. Say
split Harper off onto Raw and Bray/Braun/Erick off onto Smackdown. With the (presumably) younger roster Bray can be booked the way he should've
been for the past 3 years. Harper could even eventually take over the family after Bray makes an inevitable face/tweener turn. Just a thought. Then
again, it might be tough for that Harper Family to out-creepify this one:

My prediction: tonight's episode of Smackdown generates as much discussion in 24 hours as the old Smackdown thread did in six months.
Also, color me excited for tonight's show just because it does have a "big time" feel to it; between the draft, Rollins/Ambrose, and this
being Smackdown's live debut, hopefully it will be a solid two hours of TV (though as has been mentioned, going forward I'm not totally
sure how I feel about five hours of WWE in two nights each week).

Predictable 1st 2 picks.
Surprising the women's champ has been put on raw. Especially as the cruisers will be there too. Foreshadowing?
At least balor is up early.

Lita's looking fine. And talking good too. They could do worse that to use her one day as the first woman they have working the ringside
commentary table.
You know, everyone says it's not supposed to make sense, like that's the whole point, dude. And I'm just saying, you know,
that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but

Cena to SD is a good move. Those SD crowds have been way to quiet over the last couple of years. Cena, for good or ill, will certainly be able to pop
'em.
DB and Shane should draft Hunter. Then they could play it that he bitches and whines so much they trade him to RAW for more goodies. Good way to keep
a tag team together if one gets split up by exchanging Trips for the missing partner.
Booker being Booker and being the only one who wants to talk about Reigns? Way to go, Book.

I just marked out for the crossface chickenwing in 2016.
I feel like it's 1990something all over again. MAKE DARREN YOUNG GREAT has succeeded with me, if nobody else.
