A good start to the season but I get the feeling that the modern day open is leading up to a modern day season at the end. The "Get a Lawyer!" outburst and his mid-Cinnabon fainting probably get him fingerprinted, or at the very least he's going to come to the realization he's getting whatever his brother had.

I could understand Jimmy not realizing that he's being set up but wouldn't he know that his brother would have copies by now? It just seemed uncharacteristic, like he left his Queen out there unprotected.

That's also kind of Jimmy's strong suit is that he acts without thought when it comes to family and the people he cares about. The entire thing about the tape even existing was done without thinking it through because, in the end, it was good for Chuck's mental state to know he wasn't losing it. So the opposite happened here: he hears that Chuck played him to get the confession, so, while Kim figured things out, Jimmy went back to work, and once he was back to thinking about it again, he flew off the handle and committed a separate crime. Plus side: they didn't drag it out all season and just got right to it in episode 2 of the season.

I did appreciate Kim's bit with asking for a dollar so she could officially be his counsel. Nice call back. And speaking of call backs, good to see you again Victor: hope you don't get your throat cut with a box cutter in the future!

I ain't kidding when I tell you that when Mike was surveilling the dude going in and out of the building I could see the colors of the place and I was hoping it was what I thought it was. I also don't mind mentioning how excited I got, like nervous shakes excited, when they revealed what the building was and, more importantly, who Jimmy got to meet for the first time inside. And with that reveal we're essentially at the reason for the (in show) existence of the events of both BCS and BB. It'll be fun to see how they get the band together.

Also beating a dead horse but why not. BCS effortlessly just handled in their first two episodes what would have taken Walking Dead to accomplish in a full season. Those BCS eps were the equivalent of the combo of two of the high notes of a WD season in the season opener, mid-season, and/or season finales. They would have spent an episode on Chuck agonizing and conspiring with Howard. They would have spent another on Ernesto's confidentiality crisis. And yet another giving Mike side quests that bring him thisclose to tracking who's watching him.

And on that note, Fear the Walking Dead starts soon!

I got spoiled the very next day on goddamn Apple News because every fucker had to have a think piece and a review with Gus's photo being the lead photo. So I went to watch it on AMC.com, in which they spoiled it as well by having Gus on the promo still of the episode.

Still awesome to see it happen, though.

Don't see this show getting the accolades of it's progenitor series, but gatdang are they really humming on all cylinders now.

So far, Kim and Jimmy seem to think they have an ace up their sleeves. Regardless of their hubris in supposedly getting one over on HHM, I would think at some point Jimmy gets disbarred from practicing law as Jimmy McGill and his scheming to practice law agayn necessarily induces his transformation into Saul.

And I love the puzzle pieces dropping into place as far as how Mike eventually ends up working for Gus. Utterly curious as to whether Gus finagles Mike into being his cleaner after shit goes down with Hector or if it will be more of a genuine and respectful "you scratch my back, I scratch yours" scenario. My guess is that Hector threatens Mike's family and Gus rides to the rescue to intervene at the last moment so Mike eventually puts Hector in the chair and off we go to BB continuity.

Absolutely great to see Steven Bauer back as Head Cartel Man along with a non-chair'd Hector tearing shit up agayn.

That was the best episode of the entire series.

McKean's performance was legendary, we got a break from Mike and Gus (and the episode really benefited from that), and it was the perfect way to break the story into another direction. The Chuck saga can finally be laid to rest and we can move onto the new part of the show: the storyline of how Jimmy becomes Saul and his business involvement with Mike, and maybe more importantly, Gus.

I never realized it before, but this Chuck thing has lasted for nearly two years, and 2 and a half seasons of it is a lot of time dedicated to a single storyline playing out. We all knew Chuck really hated Jimmy, but we were never given enough to go by that this disease is ACTUALLY was all in his head. We knew it was, but we weren't given that big BANG BANG BANG (loved Howard in this episode, BTW, if only for the 5 minutes we saw him. His eloquence is fun to listen to) to show that he truly is a crazy, hate-filled monster of a brother. Chuck is one of the more despicable human beings I've ever had the pleasure of seeing play out on television, and he finally got exposed. Good on Jimmy for totally nailing him, even if it meant a very tense, depressing scene during the last 5 minutes.

We need to feel for Jimmy on this strictly because Chuck has been holding Jimmy back his entire life, both mentally and professionally, since he caught his brother being a thief. While he is a corner-cutter, Jimmy is an effective lawyer who, as Kim put it, bootstrapped his way into law. His chance for a real honest shot were crushed by Chuck, leading to a wedge playing out over 2 and a half seasons of Jimmy KNOWING that his brother was out for him, but never being able to pinpoint it or prove it, and thus, not being able to fully embrace the idea that it's 100% true. He got it, but also at the mental expense of knowing that his brother truly hated his guts. A brother he cared for and helped during his darkest days. A brother who has, despite his chicanery, a good heart. What makes it even worse is that everything he says about Jimmy is true! He IS a conniving, thieving corner-cutter, and has broken the law to get ahead nearly every chance he gets.

Huell made an unexpected return and it made everything come together for an amazing final act.

McKean's performance as Chuck during that cross examination was, as stated before, brilliant. The camera work done during the final breakdown (slow zoom on Chuck, and the exit sign) was master class, and that final image of Chuck staring at the light, realizing himself that he was, indeed, crazy, was powerful. I don't think even he realized how much he hated his brother until he finally came out with it. He knew he didn't trust his brother, but I don't think he realized just how much he truly went out of his way (some would say disturbingly and concerningly) to crush his brother. He had always been out for Jimmy, and FINALLY, we can lay him to rest for a while.

It was a lovely episode, and now has the show going full boom. Given how great the series has become this season, I can see this show rivaling Breaking Bad in terms of the final few seasons (i think Season 2 of BCS is better than Season 2 of BB). I hope it's given 5, maybe with Gilligan doing the same thing and making the last one super jumbo-sized.

He has a way of doing the worst things for reasons that seem almost noble.

I mostly agree with Cam's great write up about Chuck except the part about him being a monster. An uptight dickdouche to Jimmy, sure, but he's been dealing with his scam artist brother's skeevy antics his whole life. While I do appreciate the nuanced badness of either brother, Jimmy to me seems like the worst of the two. After all, he did become the lawyer front for two murderous meth dealers.

In a way I can understand Chuck being against Jimmy becoming a lawyer because he saw in him what we all eventually saw him develop into in Breaking Bad and what we're seeing him become on BCS. His grandiloquent reverence for The Law leads me to believe that aspect of his professional life is fair and true. However, in his personal life, his staid and stoic manner weren't up to the challenge of a romantic life or finding a way to not keep treating his brother as a ward to lord over at any and all times. But then again, he was called Slippin' Jimmy for a reason.

I suppose the best way to frame Chuck is as this show's Skyler. Not really at fault for much other than caring for the fuck-up family member/significant other in their life, but they do/did get pretty annoying as characters. Which again shows the brilliance of this show and BB. They make it easy to like the machinations of scumbags and loathe the long-suffering decent but annoying people close within their sphere of influence.

And to be honest because I'm proud of myself that I caught it when I usually don't in a show like this because there's just too much to take in, but as soon as the vet asked Jimmy if his man needed to get into any tight spaces I knew exactly who it was going to be when he showed up. My hope is that Bill Burr's cameo is coming soon too.

Yeah, but part of Chuck's awful character is how contradicting and hypocritical he is. For example, he gets on his brother for stabbing people in the back when he's been doing it to Jimmy for practically his entire teenage and adult life.

Jimmy grew up being a likeable person with street wit and interesting personality. Chuck grew up highly-educated but lacking of any real emotionally connecting social skills. It's one of the things that makes him so shitty, because for all of the self-taught (albeit morally corrupt, more times than not) things Jimmy does to make his life easier, Chuck is, at his core, a petty, jealous son of a bitch who stabs his brother in the back during a time when it matters the most to look after family.

Is it understandable as to why he is that way? Of course, but his actions go beyond it being reasonable, which makes him a real cunt. His behavior is borderline-psychotic.

I mean, at some point, a brother usually just lets their other brother live his own life, and accepts him for what he is. Maybe he won't contact with him but once or twice a year, or maybe he'll never trust him to stay in the same house with him, but most brothers at least look out for and don't try to totally destroy their brothers' careers or adult livelihood. Chuck went beyond that for way longer than he ever needed to. Jimmy made due in the back of a Korean nail salon practicing law, and then when he shows hes got the grit, Chuck fucks him.

Chuck is just as bad as Jimmy, but in a myriad of other ways. Jimmy at least has the personality and the good nature to put him above on the likeable scale.

This show is so goddamn good, man, at anticipated character reveals. Most shows have standard dun dun DUNNNNN return/reveals that, while sometimes interesting and shocking, don't come close to the seed planting and layering this show pulls off before they drop their cameo bombs.

Hell, the 'when does he become Saul?' thing is kinda one of the main points of the show and there it was slow-burned set-up and then casually dropped in our laps like that. And the best part is it's still going to happen in stages like it has from the beginning. Slow, creeping, nuanced Chinese water torture reveals until...well shit, I was gonna say the opening of Breaking Bad but then there's whatever's going on at the Cinnabun store.

I'm 100% confident that at some point Walt, Jessie, and Hank are going to just stroll into frame one day and it will all seem so casual yet the buildup will still be so sneaky.

Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia? Yes. Yes we did. She shoulda stayed away from that Stevia crap though.

And just as smooth and simple as that, Mike's first deal with Gus and literal Slippin' Jimmy became Saul as he technically got his first client. Michael McKean deserves every accolade an actor can get because I was actually rooting for him in this episode. I get the sense Kim's story is going to be the most tragic of all of them as she eventually goes toe to toe with Howard, probably Chuck, and eventually Saul.

I was more invested and my heart was pumping with tension at the intensity of Nacho's pill switcheroo moment moreso than anything Walking Dead's done in years. Words and gifs fail me at explaining how damn good this show is. It's really creeping up on being as good and possibly even better than Breaking Bad.

Anyone with better retention of details have any ideas who the body was in the desert that Mike dug up? Random Salamanca victim? The gold ring* seemed prominent to the entire scene, as was that whoever it was seemed to be some sort of final straw for Mike to officially join up with Gus.

* do NOT suggest the Goatman, Janny

I got the impression that it was the obliviously geeky but harmless bald guy Mike kept warning not to get wrapped up in criminal shit. I was kinda at a loss as to how Mike knew to go to that exact spot though. I 'member the last time they spoke Mike didn't want to get involved with him anymore, but I don't 'member what happened to him after that.

And I'll goat wherever I please, goddamnit. It's a Florida thing, you wouldn't under...wait, yeah no no yeah, you probably would understand.

I thought that after Nacho put the pills back in Salamanca's coat pocket that the cook would have been watching him through the waiters window. And Nacho would be in another conundrum. Didn't happen, though (at least it appears that way and I assume it didn't happen).

Do yourself a favor and look for the Los Pollos Hermanos Employee Training videos. They're all on youtube and on the AMC website and app. They've had one for every episode that Gus is in this season, and I imagine they'll keep making them throughout the season. They're pretty damn fantastic.
