Your favorite guilty pleasure gimmick in Pro Wrestling

We all have one.

Mine is/was Duke "The Dumpster" Droese. For whatever reason, I loved that trashy wrestler.

I also loved Evad Sullivan. Something about the devil worshipping Kevin Sullivan having a bigger, retarded brother who couldn't even spell his own name right and LOVED Hulk Hogan always made me laugh.

Who was yours?

Annnnnnnnd go!

No other challengers need apply.

You know, everyone says it's not supposed to make sense, like that's the whole point, dude. And I'm just saying, you know, that's like an excuse for lazy storytelling. Just don't sell me shite and tell me it's gold, all right? I might be stoned, but I'm not high. You know what I mean?

Fuck you Pad. That isn't a guilty pleasure, that is just mainstream awesomeness.

BTW, Taka Michinoku has wrestled 2850 matches according to CageMatch. I've never found anyone who's wrestled more in Cagematch.

We were in a bar after a softball game, They had RAW on the big screen when Yamaguchi-san did the choppy-choppy pee-pee comment. Haven't ever heard a place have that much laughter in it except for when we got to see Andrew Dice Clay live.

I mean, obviously:

More seriously, I love, like, all the vampire wrestling gimmicks. Vampiro, Gangrel, Kevin Thorne, the original version of the Ascension. I eat that shit up.

Great Khali for me. I don't care that the guy couldn't wrestle, I just loved that he looked like a 7'1" monster that walked straight out of a horror movie. Plus, he once had a Last Man Standing match with Taker on Smackdown that was actually pretty decent (by Khali standards).

Of course, once the WWE turned him into a comedy act, it was rapidly downhill from there.

My first thought was Ric Flair. Searched him, and it says he has had 3470 matches.

Might be an interesting task to see who does actually have the most.

They've been adding in more older stuff then. You know there are guys that wrestled a ton in the 60s & 70s, but the database is incomplete.

Also, might be the first time TAKA and Flair have been in the same post.

Yeah, Eugene really just nailed it in a way that was never making fun of someone being disabled- like he played it more like a kid at Christmas than having you laugh at him.

George the Animal Steele was always a favourite of mine when I was a kid; chewing the shit out of the turnbuckles.

Mae Young was always a favourite of mine... she was just so down for anything, and tough as nails.

I also liked PN News for some reason.

Probably because I was a stupid kid.

But that "Yo baby, yo baby, yo!" deal was fun to yell in the living room, and annoy my dad.

Disco Inferno, maybe. Or early, baby-punting Gene Snitsky, when he was being booked as a parody of monster heels rather than just a monster heel who jobbed all the time. Or Gillberg.

Does Muhammad Hassan count? I thought his gimmick was brilliant before WWE turned him into a terrorist, but I don't know if he qualifies as "guilty pleasure."

Does Justin Credible count?

When I was really young I loved Adam Bomb and Aldo Montoya. Really anyone colorful who had something like a mask.

I fucking loved Percy Watson.

Also, in general I'll take a match up of 2 super heavyweights over 2 better wrestling small guys 9 times out of 10. Basically there is a level of in ring awesomeness that sub 240 pound guys like Angle/HBK/AJ/Voldemort achieved that 99.9999% of the industry will never get to but seemingly many smaller guys get credit for many "great" matches that aren't that great. Dolph is one of those guys.

He's really good at his job but has exactly one memorable match (Survivor Series a few years ago). Christian (when not using a ladder) was another. I'd take ANY Big Show match versus a main eventer over essentially anything those 2 guys have ever done (ladder matches aside).

So, I guess ... The Big Show is my guilty pleasure? Does that count?

Braun Strowman guy.

I really loved Boogie Knights/Alex Wright and Norman Smiley in WCW. I thought they were hilarious. Tank Abbott sucked, but his love of 3 Count was also pretty funny.

Big Show has always baffled me... not the guy; who I think is just incredibly talented; but that the WWE has just wasted the guy right out of the gate with the like 50 heel/face turns in his first year alone.

I know WMXV between the Rock and Austin was great; but they should have gone with Big Show with McMahon in his corner versus Austin- having just re-watched that era not too long ago yeah the Rock and Austin were somewhat circling one another, but the big blow off match should have been Vince and Austin, and Rock and Foley at the time (WM was more of a total reset on various feuds).

Even if you want to forget his rocky start with the WWE once they found out that this guy has a personality (thanks to SNL) they could have really let him show it in other ways...

But nope... constantly crying Big Show.

Still; for all the crap the guy has been in; he just brings it no matter what they ask him to do.

The giant is a victim of the lack of territories. The only way to book him is as the unbeatable monster, but once he's beat then you can't do a lot with him. And the WWE beat him on national TV the first time out (even though it did take multiple chair shots).

In the territory system, he comes in for a week as the special attraction to kick the shit out of the monster heel. King Kong Bundy talked about jobbing to Andre for a week in Texas when he was in World Class. Without territories, you use up the Giant storyline really fast.

They should have not been son grandiose with his debut. If Austin vs Rock was ironclad for WM, they should have debuted Show by going after Mankind or do a multiman match at WM and debut him there, destroying a number of guys.

Show popping out of the cage to attack Stone Cold was a great moment but one with no payoff.
