NBA 2010-2011 season long discussion thread
Alright gentlemen, I'm going to try to be more active in the non-wrestling portions of this board.
Any other diehard NBA/basketball fans out there?
I will also be posting my NBA gambling plays in this thread to try and track how I do. No guarantees of success but it should be good for stimulating
some discussion.
Today I am playing:
1. Chicago Bulls +2 (-108), 1.62 to win 1.5
2. Los Angeles Lakers/Chicago Bulls UNDER 197 (-107), 2.14 to win 2
3. Minnesota Timberwolves -4 (-109), 1.09 to win 1
4. Oklahoma City Thunder ML +145, 1 to win 1.45
5. San Antonio Spurs -8 (-107), 2.14 to win 2
6. Miami Heat -8.5 (-108), 1.62 to win 1.5
7. Golden State Warriors (1H) TT UNDER 49 (-110), 1.65 to win 1.5

I'm here (but I'm not a gambler). I thought the "Lebron James is an ASS" thread was the official OO NBA discussion board, so I'm
glad this is here! Props to the KG and the Celtics for that last second win last night! (too bad it was against the 76ers).
This year I'm predicting Celtics versus Spurs in the finals. And if Shaq had been with the team last year, when they got ate alive on the
boards, there is NO way Rajon Rondo would NOT have won Finals MVP. That kid is nasty.

KG and the Celts have looked great this year. I'm shocked they are still +500 to win the whole thing -- there's no way that MIA should be
favored ahead of Boston considering the ass whoopings Boston has put on the Miami Cartel.
I think San Antonio can challenge the Lakers for the west crown provided that they stay healthy, that Richard Jefferson keeps playing at this level
that he has been this year, and if Tiago Splitter gets fully integrated into the offense.

KG is a fucking punk. That's right, I said it. Don't make me link to the youtube videos showing him barking at younger guys and Europeans
and then slinking away from confrontations with bigger, badder dudes.

I dunno man... I think if anyone is gonna challenge my Lakers this year, it's gonna be Dallas. 18-4, and what... ten straight now or something
like that? They're completely mowing over the competition. And they've finally gotten their defense together really well, which was
always their biggest weakness.
Is everyone mad here?

Blake Griffin is freaking amazing.
And how about Amare and the Knicks? No, they're not going anywhere without a major trade but at least they're relevant and exciting to
watch again. Also, that Landry Fields kid is pretty good too. Can't believe his rebound dunk from a few days ago didn't make top plays (or
even the highlights of the game).
KG is a total punk. Between him and Pierce, it's incredibly easy to hate the Celtics. Especially since they seem to rub off on some of the
younger teammates (Glen Davis) and turn them into insufferable jackasses as well.
I know the Heat have just killed some bad teams, but they did it to Utah too and this season's going to be real exciting if they can keep it
together. That game against the Warriors was pretty exciting and they always have the potential to turn into an And1 team for 3 or 4 minutes at a
time.

I hope you can admit Amare is about 10 times the punk that KG is otherwise you'll be a complete homer. Amare had Steve Nash making him
bucketloads of money and still couldn't be happy in Phoenix.

This. I actually enjoy watching the Clippers now.

That's fine. I've never seen him do half the stuff KG does, but whatever, he should have been happy in Phoenix if they'd give him
max money.
Still, you've got to admit that he's doing waaaaay better than everyone thought he'd do without Nash. Unlike Marion, it looks like
Amare is actually talented on his own.
By the way, Bill Simmons announced the Heat/Warriors game and I thought he did a decent job. I'm not sure another announcer would have picked up
on Dorrelle Wright (I think) being pissed off that his buddy Wade didn't try to keep him on the team. He said he was playing like a "spurned
girlfriend."

True Dev but Amare doesn't bark at international players and rookies and then slink away from guys that might actually, you know, be big enough
to stand up to him. KG is a bitch while Amare just whines a lot.
And I say that as a Phoenix fan. Trust me, I've probably watched 250+ of Amare's games with Phoenix. Superbly talented offensive player
but he's allergic to defense and is a terrible, TERRIBLE rebounder. Like really bad. So bad that Landry Fields is outrebounding Amare in terms
of boards per 48 minutes. That's fucking embarrassing.

The Thunder probably still haven't gotten over losing out on the #1 pick in that lottery. Especially with the team they have now, and
especially since Griffin is from Oklahoma and went to high school/college there. I dunno when his contract with the Clippers is up, but if he
keeps playing like he is now, he'll be able to write his ticket anywhere.
Also-- since he missed all of last season and there were questions about him-- it's nice to see that he isn't made of egg shells and
hummingbird bones like Greg Oden is.

The Heat may be evil...but the more fun they have together, I get the feeling if they work out the kinks they are going to end up as the contender
people were hyping at the start of the season.
Also, how many boards per game would Bargnani need to average to be the East's backup center in the All-Star game? The points are there, but
I'm not sure he's had enough big games to get people to notice that the guy is playing at a high level.
Or does playing on the Raptors mean he has no chance over a PF like Bosh, Amare, KG (IE whoever isn't the 2nd forward starting with LeBron)
being considered a center? Or does Brook Lopez get the nod in the battle of centers from bad teams with girlie names?
Here's my current take on the East:
Rose / Wade / LeBron / Amare / Howard = Starters
Rondo / Allen / Pierce / KG / Bargnani = Reserves by position
Bosh / Josh Smith = 11th and 12th roster spots
And for fun...the West will likely go with small ball...with lots of Gasol at the 5:
Paul / Kobe / KD / Nowitzki / Jefferson = Starters
Westbrook / Roy / Melo / Gasol / Duncan = Reserves by position
D. Williams / Nash = 11th and 12th roster spots
Griffin could replace Duncan / Nash. Also, Tony Parker will make the team if Duncan does not, as the Spurs will have @ least one player on the squad.
If Nash gets voted in, it'll be interesting to see who of Paul / Westbrook / Williams is most on the bubble.

Was at the Knicks game today and it was awesome. Everybody went nuts when Amare went from 2 in the 1st quarter to 30 by the end and especially when he
went on the tear to get the lead back. Great, great game. And nice to see the Knicks beat a legit team. I think the win streak and 30 streak end
against the Celtics, but if Amare keeps this up (being the 3rd leading scorer in the league) and the Knicks make the playoffs, those MVP chants might
not be so absurd.

Very cool! Yeah the Knicks seem like they're finally pulling it together... but so is the Heat (dun dun DUUUUUNNNN!) Meanwhile New Orleans
has fallen the fuck off. I was impressed by my boy Brandon Jennings the other night when the Bucks finally stopped the Mavs (who diddled away another
large lead). I'm hearing now that Dwight Howard has permanently retired from the NBA Dunk contest, and there is strong speculation that Blake
Griffin will take part in the 2011 version. Think those two newsbits are related? lol Superman is scurred!!!

Why would Dwight Howard even need to be in the Dunk Contest again? He already won it once in amazing fashion, and he'll never be able to better
it. Go out on top, I say, and let Griffin have his time.
Speaking of the Magic, not re-signing Matt Barnes (over J.J. Reddick, who has played like a chump) was a really poor personnel decision. The only
person on the team that can now defend anybody well is Howard (and maybe Brandon Bass), and they look much weaker than last year. It's amazing
how one role player can make such a difference.

I can't believe the one night I get stuck at work is the night the Knicks have a great game with the Celts.
Ouch, what a loss! Knicks are legit though.

Yeah, that was a damn good game between the two. Stoudemire and Felton were crazy good. Another 0.3 seconds on the clock, and the Knicks win that
game.
