NCAA College Football 2011- Revenge of the Conference Reallignment
So you might remember from last year that about a year ago, half of the teams
in college football reshuffled their conference alignments. This year, those changes take place. With the addition of Nebraska, the Big Ten now has 12
teams (split into the drunkenly named "leaders" and "legends" divisions), but is
keeping the Big Ten name. With the addition of Utah and Colorado, the Pac 10 has become the Pac 12, which was nice of them. With the loss of Nebraska
and Colorado, the Big XII now has X teams, but is keeping the Big XII name. BYU is an independent. Boise State, Nevada, and Fresno State are now in
the Mountain West Conference, which is the one that people always get confused with the WAC, which may or may not even exist anymore, since nobody has
checked after those three teams left the WAC. Confused yet? We'll figure it out soon enough.
BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!!!
Just within the last few days, Texas A&M;
has decided to bolt from the Big XII to the SEC, a move that isn't official yet but is considered a mortal lock to happen Monday (and will
also leave the Big XII with IX teams). Of course,
9 out of the 12 SEC schools
have to OK this, but assuming it goes down (and why wouldn't it? A&M; isn't much of a reach for the SEC geographically, and they have
enough credibility to fit in), then
conventional wisdom suggests the SEC would
expand to at least 14 and possibly 16 teams, with early rumors suggesting Florida State, Virginia Tech,
Clemson, North Carolina, Missouri, and
Louisville as candidates for expansion (spoiler alert: North Carolina isn't leaving their sweet, sweet ACC basketball dominance just to be
cannon fodder for SEC football. Cute rumor, though).
Clemson is already running damage
control and Mizzou is also denying the
reports, and good for them!, because early speculation says
the Big XII won't survive with only VIII
teams. Meanwhile, BYU is wearing its
sluttiest dress and waiting for a phone call from the Big XII that probably won't come (shame on you, playa). This is actually very
exciting stuff, because if there's one thing the SEC desperately needs, it's
1-4 additional bandwagoning asshole fanbases.
So yeah, reafuckinglignment is giving me a bit of a headache, but it makes for fun conversation.
Also: lol @ my favorite off-season
tragedy, "The Ballad of Jim Tressel".
So with all that out of the way, who else is ready for kickoff?

There really should be a Death Penalty Conference. Drop out of the NCAA, sign a separate TV contract:
SMU
Da U
THE Ohio St.
North Carolina
Auburn
USC
If we could add 2 more it could be a legit division.

Colorado. Good one.
But has Florida even lost a substantial number of scholarships? I mean, most of these teams were ineligible for bowl games at one point. I dunno.
That's a damned fine conference though.

The Gators haven't been on probation since Spurrier's first year coaching, and they've been pretty good with punishing off the field
infractions (suspensions were another reason why they were bad last year). I would say Florida ain't going anywhere, but with teams falling
everyday who the hell knows?
This much is true: If the SEC picks up Florida State, I fucking riot.

Actually, only Boise State left for the Mountain West. Nevada and Fresno State are still in the WAC.
This could be a really messed up year. The SEC has a great top end (Alabama, LSU and Arkansas) but the rest of the teams are not that good. I can see
the SEC coming to the final two weeks of the season with a number of teams fighting for that sixth win and bowl eligibility. The Big 10 will be a
blast with Nebraska coming in (and probably winning their division), and the Big 12 will be extremely top heavy with Oklahoma, OK State and Texas
A&M.;
Meanwhile, we could have as many as six teams go undefeated. Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Houston and Southern Miss (though they'd
play each other in the Conf USA title game) and Boise State/TCU could all go unbeaten.
Alabama and Oklahoma I see playing in the title game. Oregon could beat Stanford, LSU and USC and still not get the respect they deserve. Boise State
will beat TCU and still get screwed--but what else is new? Virginia Tech has a very soft schedule (all their tough games at home) and would only face
Florida State in the ACC title game. Houston's toughest could be their opener hosting UCLA until they go to Tulsa at the end of the year.
Southern Miss has a trip to Virginia as their toughest road game. Boise and TCU should manhandle their schedule except for their matchup at Boise.
Season starts this weekend--can't wait!

One day into the season and we already have a contender for animated GIF of the year. That Kentucky-Western Kentucky game was so damn entertaining to
watch, in the same vein as watching really horribly made B-horror movies. "Comedy of errors" really lacks the necessary gravitas to accurately
describe how grin-enwidening a game that was.
Anyways the GIF itself is huge so I'll just link it: LOLNEWTON

I'm not even a big college football guy, but I was pretty fucking glued to that game tonight. Was kinda hoping to see TCU score at the end (just
because that would have made things even crazier), but that was indeed an insane game.

That game was off-the-charts amazing. I feel bad for TCU, who went from the 3-time undisputed best defense in the nation to something that resembled
Michigan under GERG. But I also feel just as good for Baylor and RG3, who are now going to burst on the national scene.
Worst thing about that game is I had to be up a hour ago to get ready for everything today, yet I couldn't stop watching. Only 5 hours of sleep
and about to be up for more than 24 hours straight? Sure, why not. COLLEGE FOOTBAW

So, is Boise for real now?
Beat an SEC team.
A ranked SEC team.
An SEC team in week 1, so they weren't disinterested or worn down from the "SEC grind" (the excuse offered up when Utah waxed Alabama in the
Sugar Bowl).
Beat them handily.
And did it on the road (I don't care if it was technically a neutral site game, it was against Georgia in Georgia).
Anything missing?

HURR DURR they had 8 months to prepare. Also, I'm an SECtard and I don't know anything about college football except SEC dominance.

But if Boise had to play South Carolina next week and Kentucky the following week and then directional Tennessee and directional Carolina and then LSU
and then some random 1-AA school and then a bye and then Bama...well, they'd still be fucking undefeated because Boise might be the best team in
the country.

Boise has been for real, for the past 5 years. How many more times they have to go out there and beat BCS conferences teams, I dunno, but this looking
down on Boise nonsense is old, and sad, and baseless.
Now to destroy all your bandwidth! Don't worry, it's for a good purpose: Notre Dame schadenfreude.
