More information is coming at E3, including what would be expected to be a release date. Typically Bethesda has a year window between announcement and release (Skyrim, the last one they did, was announced December 2010 and released November 2011). But this is one of the big next-gen releases, so if any game deserves its own topic, this is it.

If the new Batman, Rock Band 4 and this were all on last (PS3) gen, I wouldn't upgrade. Since they're not, I guess I gotta upgrade. Can't wait for this one in particular.

Remember what I said about a year between announcement and release? November 10. This year. And my winter time is spoken for.

The XBox One advantage? A free copy of Fallout 3 on XBox One with preorder.

So for this only applies to XBox Live digital preorders, but it is likely that this will probably be applied to retail preorders like the Doom beta offer for Wolfenstein was (that hasn't come out yet). A copy of Fallout 3 operating at max console resolution is a very nice sweetener.

Today they announced the DLC plans for Fallout 4. To the chagrin of whiny nerds everywhere, there will be a Season Pass (despite Bethesda not knowing what the DLC will contain or how much they'll do, they are stating it will be at least $40 on its own). However, they did also state they will regularly add in new stuff for free like they did with Skyrim (like the kill cam, legendary mode, etc). Also, they've stated that the game has essentially been done since E3, so there's very little chance of a delay.

November, I am looking forward to wasting all my time off on you

I always buy all the Fallout DLC anyhow, so a season pass is fine by me.

Two more months to get stuff done, before all my time is wasted on this game.

Unlike a lot of other companies Bethesda seems to make a point of giving you Some real value for your DLC dollars, so I'd be much more inclined to blindly take a chance on them with a season's pass where the content hasn't been announced than I would most other companies.

I bought two $40 Microsoft cards the second I read it because the Season Pass is going to be a Day One purchase. Bethesda hasn't done me wrong yet. Even considering how light Skyrim's DLC load was compared to previous games, it was still a lot of stuff to go through. Besides, why doubt a game from the company putting these out to hype it:

Buying it tomorrow along with Rise of the Tomb Raider

Which means 2 things:

and

2.) I won't be coming back into this topic until the day I beat it.

The only thing I'm not a fan of so far is the settlement stuff. Sometimes games shoehorn something like this in, and it almost always is a boring drag. You have a community of 10, 20, 30 people, yet you and you alone are the only one capable of building everything, maintaining everything and making sure the residents are happy.

I already know all my residents are going to starve/get murdered/whatever after I completely ignore them to go off and do all the fun Fallout stuff.

I'm on the fence about the community tools. On one hand, yeah, feels a bit unnecessary, and it's a bit of a pain in the ass to get down (can't for the life of me figure out how to get walls down, or walls to connect to a doorway). On the other hand, it's oddly addictive. So, as it stands now, I put two machine gun turrets at the bridge and one on top of my house.

I've been playing the fuck out of the game over the past 10 days. I designed a capital building in Sanctuary with the construction editor. The editor is cumbersome, but if you are patient, you can create cool stuff. My first effort was a bit boxy, but the inside is coming along decently. Here's a pic of the outside, and the first floor inside. I'm turning the second floor into an armory and communications hub, and the third floor will be a couple penthouses I think. All three floors are wired with electricity, with the generators on the roof. Since I took these, I've added spotlights on the roof outside. Thoughts?

Ummm....holy shit. Yeah, I've been playing around with Sanctuary, and the extent of what I got is I demolished the four destroyed houses, turning one lot into a pre-fabbed large metal "bunker" house (just full of beds), fenced off the second and placed a trader and hospital stand, put three guard posts in the one facing the river with three snipers facing out of town, and the fourth is just kinda empty for what have you.

Also I managed to put a machine gun on top of my house. But that's as good as I've been able to do. That? That's like Picasso.

Goddamn dude, that's awesome. Yeah, all I've done is add a few pre-made shacks at the Starlight Drive-In for those people to sleep in. How the hell did you do all that?

Once I got a good idea of what the editor could do, it got a lot easier and quicker. The building itself took awhile, and I had to remove and add a bunch of times. I kept getting a section on the second floor that was looking like it was hanging over nothing with no support, but I figured out I could use the bridge pieces to put under that part to look like they were holding up the section. Although I didn't take a screenshot from that angle outside, so you'll have to trust me that it looks pretty cool. I won't lie, between that and the intro steps (which took hours i'm sure when added all together) building basic boxy houses in other settlements, the time spent was worth it.

The inside of the first floor took an hour or so. I did my "office" on the second floor today. Took about 30min. It's a bit simpler, but I like how it looks.

EDIT: I finished furnishing the insides. I'll probably populate the tables and shelves with some more books and stuff, but other than that, it's pretty much complete. I toned down the ambitions a bit because I wanted to go shoot things in the wasteland some more, but I think I did fairly well. I gave my dudes a cooking area, complete with goodies. There's a few smaller sleeping areas, and I put patio furniture and a picnic table and some grills up on the roof. I also included a small workshop area on one of the landings, and gave the guy there a tiny sleeping alcove. My peons still have sleeping bags, but I gave them a working television and jukebox to keep them happy. Thoughts?

Second edit: Here's how I cheated with the bridge pylons to make things look a little cleaner:

Great googly moogly, Q, that's awesome. I've been grinding away on the game since it's release and have been enjoying the settlement feature a lot more than I thought I would. I feel like a terrible Dad because I've been spending more time stockpiling junk and resources, and establishing supply lines to get a proper build going at Sanctuary than I have been searching for my missing son. I'm hoping I'll be able to start some serious building tonight, and if it only comes out half as impressive as yours I'll be more than happy.

You should do a video tour, like this guy did:

I just had a raider sneak into sanctuary and jump into one of my suits of power armor and try to take off with it. I killed him, but the suit was now on him and thus no longer usable. Needless to say, I moved the rest inside. It's not really a huge issue, but it was annoying. But hilarious at the same time. But more annoying, heh.

*snipped link*

I was thinking about doing a video tour actually. It's really easy to do on the Xbox One as it's essentially hardwired into the system to use for any game. As far as constructing things goes, there's little tricks you can use. First off, use the pre-mod ceiling/floor pieces with a flat ceiling, not with the angles ones. It'll make building multiple layers a lot easier and prettier. Also, you can use an outer layer of them and fill the insides in with just floor pieces. It'll open up the space inside a lot. This is assuming a large flat area. The housing pads in Sanctuary are great for this.

When wiring power, try to take advantage of the holes in walls and stuff. It you are clever enough, you can keep line of sight with the generator and run the lines into the house in ways that aren't obtrusive. Wiring power can be a pain in the ass, so using little things like that can make your life easier. The door pieces of the walls jut out a bit, but you need to use those pieces for doors. just leaving a space between walls won't let you install a door. Luckily the wall pieces with the door frame are the same size as the major generic wall pieces, so it shouldn't affect things too much.

I wish they had a ladder piece. Actually, they might. The more Picket Fences magazines you find in the wasteland, the more building pieces you unlock. I'm hoping there's one for better stairs and the already-mentioned ladders, because the generic first set of stairs are hard to work with in some cases.

Also, when building higher stories, build out temporary floors so you can go out 'over the air' or whatever. basically it's scaffolding that makes building a ton easier. You can always reuse the floors later as actual floors by putting them in your workbench and when you next build a floor, it'll be free.

My next two projects are a garage for my powered armor and workbenches (mostly because of a damned raider stealing one of my suits), and a fully lit basketball court (because the game has hoops and so why the fuck not?).

Just stick with it. Trust me, the first few houses I made were exactly what others mentioned: boxes with a row of sleeping bags. Eventually, I started fixing up the existing houses with ruined ceilings and walls, but then realized it was easier to just create new houses from scratch. The UI is cumbersome, I'm not going to lie. But stick with it, and once you figure out which pieces are where in the menus and how to put them together, it gets far easier.

And yeah, supply lines and the scrapping perks helps a lot. I have hmm, like 16 or 17 settlements now, all linked into trade routes with one another. It's made construction far easier. For anyone interested, my initial character build was basic skills in everything but intelligence (3-4 for each) with intelligence being 10. I pushed perks into the crafting skills like armorer, science, and stuff early, after boosting my non-Int stats up each a couple points. CHR i'm in the middle of raising to 10 (It's 7 currently) as i've read that settlement sizes are dependent on CHR. I gained like five levels just by building that HQ, by the way.

The 10 Int means that I get +30% xp (and have from the start) and I'm having a lot of fun metagaming the building of an empire. I didn't know this when I built the character...I just wanted to build from the idea that my guy was like the protagonist in idiocracy...Since he slept for 200 years and everyone else got dumber, the thought was that my dude would be a genius compared to them. That was my "hook." The movie Idiocracy. Heh.

I haven't even been to Diamond City yet and I'm currently level 37. I've put huge amounts of time into modding my armor and guns for my settlers as well. I watched a dozen of them take down a deathclaw in the drive-in town. I was super proud of my dudes when I saw that. I just sat there and watched them tear it to pieces. But yeah, I've outfitted...I dunno how many of my settlers...At least 50-60...with modded combat rifles and polished metal armor and studded leathers and the like.

Edit: Added some more stuff.

I actually had a similar experience with some Raiders storming Sanctuary earlier today. The key is removing the Fusion Core from the Power Armor when you aren't using it. Partially depleted cores don't stack with fresh ones in your inventory so they're easy to keep track of. That being said, I forgot to take one out of a suit I had used last night to handle a Glowing Deathclaw (FUCK THAT GUY) so when I made it to Sanctuary one of the Raiders was running around in the Power Armor.

I had to use a Stealth Boy to pickpocket and remove the Fusion Core from the suit, forcing him out of the suit and into the crosshairs of my incendiary shotgun.

This. Don't keep fusion cores or ammo in your crafting station, or your settlers will use it. I lost all of my 10mm ammo early on because i was using the crafting storage as a giant bank for everything.
