Exactly this. Posthumous Tribute Raws are even sadder than Sad Goodbyes.
Yeah, I was thinking during Bryan's speech how I'm really glad that the new standard seems to be guys like him and Edge getting to
announce their retirements and not being found dead in their hotel rooms.

Agreed. With Edge, it was a really sudden and surprising thing, but in the case of Bryan, I was kind of already under the assumption that he
wasn't ever coming back (not to mention he's been off of TV for almost a year anyway). So while it was definitely an emotional segment, I
had been considering Daniel Bryan as unofficially retired for awhile now, so tonight was just making it official.

It did, on the Network.
Nothing of substance, DB made the rounds on the edges of the crowd, shaking hands and hugging people, and Vince did the Yes! fingers along with the
rest of the locker room.

Sadly, I think he may have shut that door on his kind of guy too. Freddie Prinze was talking on Jericho about how Vince is paranoid that smaller guys
will get injured and mess up his plans so he doesn't trust them to hang a program on.
Given the injury/death/concussion sensitivity, Vince is probably convinced more than ever that he needs big guys who don't jump around.

I've been to a ton of Raws in my very long life, but the two most memorable were in Seattle and involving Bryan: The hijack he talked about
tonight, and tonight. Happy to have been a part of both of these. Sounds like the crowd came off good. Good.
And it doesn't seem like I was alone in getting choked up when he started talking about his dad.
EDIT: Some drunk guy in the bathroom was giving a lecture/sermon to the "captive" audience about how this Raw sucked and the WWE hasn't built
up any new stars and they have no stars that they built up and Raw sucked as a result. (He was very repetitive, and I'm attributing it to his
intentionally following the "if you want people to remember it, tell them 7x" rule and not at all to his drunkenness). After a pause when he said
again that WWE has built up no talent, I suggested that they had in fact built up Roman Reigns. He either thought I was being serious, or regardless
it set him off on a new topic about "Roman Fucking Reigns" that I quickly left (after washing my hands, of course). He wasn't in line to pee
(at least when I went through the line) and was kinda walking back and forth in the bathroom so either he was doing one of those "I'm gonna
have to pee again in 5 minutes so I might as well just wait it out there" things, or he just liked giving lectures in the restroom.

That speech by Daniel Bryan was pretty incredible. It was one of the best retirement speeches I've ever seen, filled with heartfelt moments and
Bryan's sincerity.
As a lot of people have said, we pretty much knew this was coming, as much as we tried to hold out hope that it wasn't, but that doesn't
make losing Bryan as a performer hurt any less. With how adamant that he was about wrestling again, I hope that whatever news he found out regarding
his brain isn't too awful.
There aren't people like Daniel Bryan, Bryan Danielson, that come along often. I'm happy he got a chance to share his love of wrestling
with so many people and in turn, we got to share our appreciation with him. The connection he had with the crowd made everything he did after the 18
seconds mean that much more. His stretch from when he and Kane formed Team Hell No to breathe life in the tag division to when he conquered the world
at Mania was one of the best stretches of anyone in WWE history. Pretty much everything he did was fire. Wrestling is going to be a little less great
because Bryan officially won't be a part of it.

Yeah, I figure I've been on this interwebs thing long enough that I should learn to use it proper.
(Not Really) Funny story about the avatar picture.. When I felt the silent peer-pressure of the first page, and set out to find myself an avvy, I was
looking for a Y2J countdown that wouldn't break the size rule. I didn't find it, so I just searched for "WWE gif 150x125" and scrolled
through the options, passing by many Bella-asses and Cena-wins.. Finally, that goat caught my eye.
Daniel Bryan's influence was everywhere tonight.

It was rumored for the longest time that the WWE brass thought the "YES" chant and not Daniel Bryan the wrestler, was what was over with the
audience. Judging by how they built up his retirement tonight, leading to his farewell speech, we can probably put those rumors to rest. They showed
a real appreciation for the wrestler, performer and good guy that is Daniel Bryan. He will truly be missed.

As Retirement Speeches Go...
I don't know that it's better than Shawn Michaels' or Edge's, but it has to be right up there.
To me, he doesn't feel like he wanted to retire. Shawn Michaels was at peace with it, Edge seemed alright with it. With Daniel Bryan, it felt
like there was some hesitation. I'm left feeling there still is, and probably always will be. But at least we got one. And, other than a
patronizing 'trending worldwide on Twitter' graphic, the crew had the good sense to stay out of the way.
Beyond that, I'll just echo the 'It's always better to see guys go out this way than a memorial show' sentiment and get out of
the way.
Just a question for those with a better feel for this than I have (which is everyone), does this work better as part of the overrun or, as with HBK
and Edge, do these types of speeches work better kicking off the show?

Being a commentator is not really that bad. Read somewhere that he does not want to do that. With his knowledge of wrestling moves and styles, he
would be a great play by play guy. One with humour and wit and who would complement the story being told in the ring.
Sadly, that is unlikely

* So the big question... is it real? We are in Seattle after all.
* Well, that didn't take long. #PromoHijacking
* Nice unhijacking, Steph. And good production value working the graphic in while she was talking. Like that.
* Genius marketing. Last month or two, Lesnar has added on to his city-specific unique T-shirt by using color schemes unique to said city. Last week
in Birmingham it was Crimson Tide colors, this week it's the Seahawks.
* Nicely done, Lesnar.

* A Ryback video package?

* Daniel's always been an emotions-on-the-sleeve guy... wonder if he'll be able to get through this.
* This is approaching Rock levels of Not Saying Anything.
* "That's what Brie says all the time." Well played, Daniel.
* If he breaks into Raindrops On Roses here I'm going to laugh my ass off.
* Wonder what CM Punk is thinking watching this?
* Be a kicker if a gong sounds right now.
* Brie you better get your checkerboard ass out there.
Oh well. To bad it was for realz. Any doubt as to what WWE thought of him, though, was answered there. Dude had a live mic for about 18 minutes.

Now that there is a Daniel Bryan retirement thread, I figured I would comment on some non-DB things from RAW last night:
quote: Originally posted by S Kid J E T S 48
They're selling Ambrose-Brock as the #2 WM match better than they can ever sell Brock-Wyatt at this point. I hope they abort.
Totally agree with this and had the same thought during their two segments last night. The WWE has really backed off on anything Brock/Bray-related
over the last few weeks, so my hope is that we somehow get Brock/Ambrose at WrestleMania. Of course, I highly doubt this is gonna happen, and
I'm sure the Wyatts will appear during the Fastlane main event to take Brock out.
A few other thoughts:
I agree with the previous comments about the Dudleys heel turn. They've been kind of treading water as faces since coming back, so hopefully
going heel rejuvenates them a bit (though I will be curious to see if they've gone fully heel or if it's more of a tweener "we want to
kick everyone's asses" type deal). Also, it's kind of funny but every once in a while in wrestling I get a vibe that we're going to
see a heel turn. For whatever reason, I had that vibe with the Dudleys last night, so it didn't completely shock me when they turned on the
Usos.
Now that all of the Divas factions have been split up, I was thinking last night just how strong the division is right now. Sasha, Paige, Becky,
Charlotte, Natty, even Brie and Nikki...the WWE stumbled a bit out of the gate with the whole "Divas revolution" thing, but I think they're
finally getting there. Also, I'm kind of curious to see how Daniel Bryan's retirement affects the Charlotte/Brie match at Fastlane...what
once seemed like kind of a throwaway Divas match before WrestleMania now seems like we could see a major face reaction for Brie from the crowd due to
her husband being forced to retire.
Loved Jericho turning Miz TV into the Highlight Reel. That was a fun segment all around and amazingly, the WWE has done a really good job with AJ
Styles so far.
So Ryback spent a couple of years trying to get past the "Goldberg" chants, it finally happens...and he switches to black trunks, boots, and gloves
for his new ring gear? At least his trunks weren't solid black like they were on Smackdown last Friday, but it's still kind of a curious
wardrobe change.
Overall, I thought that was a really good RAW last night. Daniel Bryan's retirement obviously kind of overshadowed everything (and rightfully
so), but most everything was in the decent to great department and the Seattle crowd definitely made things more fun.

It could be a lot of fun if Brie is escorted to the ring by DB at Fastlane to counter Ric helping out Charlotte. It would be pretty wild for the crowd
if DB and Ric squared off outside the ring and had a session of "Woooooo!" vs "Yes!" for a while during a rest break. If it ends in a DQ or some
kind of schmozz then they can make it a Fatal Four-Way for the title at WM with Brie included. Looks like Paige might be treading water for a while,
probably because that concussion is still bothering her, so putting Brie instead into the Charlotte/Sasha/Becky dynamic could work out.
