Hey, there's a PPV in four hours: WWE Backlash 2017
What, no discussion yet for a PPV featuring Orton/Mahal?
Though this show is kind of weird, because you have a dud of a WWE title match, yet two potential MOTY contenders in AJ/Owens and Ziggler/Nakamura, so
it's not all bad. The matches per WWE.com:
Randy Orton vs Jinder Mahal
Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles
Dolph Ziggler vs Shinsuke Nakamura
The Usos vs Breezango
Naomi/Charlotte/Becky vs Natalya/Carmella/Tamina
Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin
Luke Harper vs Erik Rowan
Tye Dillinger vs Aiden English (Kick-Off Show)
And my picks:
Randy Orton vs Jinder Mahal: I have a sneaking suspicion that this won't be the main event, as I just can't see this going on last
in front of a Chicago crowd (especially after they've sat through AJ/Owens and Ziggler/Nakamura). With that said, I'm very curious to see
the apathy and/or shitstorm this gets from the crowd. Oh, and as for the match result...I dunno, I kind of feel like this is going to be a
Cena/Sheamus situation where nobody thinks Mahal has a chance and then he wins the WWE title. So I'll go with Mahal to win and then drop the
title very quickly back to Orton.
Kevin Owens vs AJ Styles: This one is tough to call, as Owens hasn't gotten an extended run with the US title yet, but AJ is obviously
way over with the crowd. Either way, this should be a great match and I'll go with Owens to retain either by getting DQed or through some other
nefarious means.
Dolph Ziggler vs Shinsuke Nakamura: I kinda suspect that this could be the main event, just because Nakamura has been heavily featured in all
of the Backlash promotions. It wouldn't shock me if Ziggler did win here, just to extend the feud, but I'll go with Nakamura winning his
WWE PPV debut in a closely-fought match.
The Usos vs Breezango: I think the Usos are killing it as heels right now and Breezango are rapidly becoming one of my favorite things on WWE
TV, so I love this matchup. I'll go with the Usos to retain, and as much as I love Breezango, think they should hold the belts at least until
SummerSlam.
Naomi/Charlotte/Becky vs Natalya/Carmella/Tamina: Eh, you can flip a coin here, but I'll go with the faces to win. Though I do give about
a 15% chance for a Charlotte heel turn.
Sami Zayn vs Baron Corbin: Corbin lost to Orton on Smackdown, so I'll go with him to get the win here over Sami.
Luke Harper vs Erik Rowan: Didn't these two just wrestle on Smackdown? I'll pick Harper to win.

I was just coming in to start a thread, but goon beat me to it by about a half hour... and pretty much hit all the same notes that I would have,
too.
So much thanks for the effort, and saving me some time!
I just cannot overstate how much of a pall Orton/Mahal casts over a show that could actually turn out to include some big time MotY candidates...
PPVs, for the entirety of my wrestling fandom, have been Event Viewing. Assuming I made the decision to watch the show, I showed up on time, and I
stayed till the very end.
Most TV, I do a hell of a lot of flipping around during commercials; but PPVs, I stay put no matter how many times I've already seen that same
stupid video package (I might get up to take a piss or something, but don't go looking for something else to watch).
Most sports, I have no problem giving up and walking away if a game's outcome is no longer in question; but PPVs, I absolutely must see it
through to the end, because even if I "know" who's gonna win, I genuinely enjoy the journey/story/ringwork to get there.
Backlash may mark a first for me: treating a wrestling PPV like anything else, and just bailing on it at a certain point. This isn't a case of a
show where don't really want to see a particular match; lord knows there have been PPVs in the past like that. Somehow, tonight is different:
this is a show where I very much want to NOT see a match.
The distinction might be subtle, but it's real. But I guess for $9.99, I'm not entitled to get TOO upset... whatever fractional amount of
Backlash that I wind up turning out was probably more than made up for by the amount of entertainment I got last night from NXT.
Glass half full.....

I honestly wonder if they'll do what they did with Takeover last night: demote the main title match to the semi-main. I wouldn't be
surprised at all if Orton/Jinder is next to last with Dolph/Nakamura taking the main event slot.
Oh yeah, predictions:
Dolph/Nakamura - Shinsuke, duh.
Jinder/Orton - Orton by DQ
Owens/AJ - Owens
Usos/Breezango - Usos, but my heart's totally with Breezango.
Six Woman Tag - Welcoming Committee
Harper/Rowan - Harper
Corbin/Sami - Corbin
Dolph/Shin and the US Title match both have the capacity to rock pretty hard.

I've been severely underwhelmed by Dolph the last few years. It looks like he's lost a step and can't truly have a memorable match
unless there's a heavy story to elevate his performance. The SS Tag match in 14 and the Career vs Title match against Miz are the only matches
he's done in like 4 years that truly stand out. I hope Nakamura's aura and the specialness of this being his debut help add some sizzle
to give that piece of old steak a better flavor.
On the other potential MOTY candidate, I'm thinking Owens/AJ will be more focused on creating a set up for future matches rather than going all
out tonight. There matches last year were good but forgettable. With that in mind I'm predicting a four star affair for tonight. I hope the
ending is Owens cheating or the pinned/made to sumbit each other at the same time but the ref ony noticed type ending rather than a lazy dq/count
out.
I'm really looking forward to Breezedango vs the Usos. The Fashion Police gimmick is perfect to have them lose tonight but then launch an
investigation on the suspicious circumstances on how the Usos won to get another shot at Money in the Bank. Breezedango need to win those straps this
summer and not be a stand-in for the Usos until New Day is back.

Fun fact: If Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Dolph Ziggler is the main event, it'll be only Ziggler's fourth PPV main event, and only his second
singles main event (the first being vs. John Cena at TLC 2012). Though it's irrelevant, as if Randy Orton vs. Jinder Mahal doesn't
main-event, which I still think it has a good chance of doing, Kevin Owens vs. AJ Styles will.

Aaaaaand it's Mr. Zigglesworth and Shinski Noogieboogie to start. Sooooo, I guess they want the crowd to get worn out after the first match?
Vindaloo Jones and Cunt Dunkleman on last is my guess. I am so, so, so sorry The Rick.

The way the ad campaign (at least on TV here in Canuckistan) has been designed, I would presume that the MAESTRO OF VIOLENCE, Nakamura-san, will be
the main event.
But I wouldn't be entirely shocked if Randy F. Orton went on last either. He's a 'proven commodity', and if there -is- a
title change, making it the main event adds extra stank to the affair.
eta: Welp, there goes that.

To be fair, a McMahon opened Wrestlemania this year. It seems the third most important match gets throw in early nowadays.

And by making the curtain-jerking match a 'good one', it teaches people to show up on time & stay for the whole show or they'll miss
something. Well, in theory at least.

Very good match. Not transcendent, but that's hard to do when the outcome is never in doubt.

Also, place your bets now, what match gets the CM PUNK! chant first!

All those rest holds and mat wrestling was ill-advised for a guy whose strenghts are being a charismastic striker. We didn't get full Nakamura
here. Meanwhile Ziggler has definently lost a step and had this been the Ziggler who randomly stole the show against Daniel Bryan 8 years ago, we
could have had something that rivaled Nakamura vs Zayn from last year.
As it is, good opener and a strong showing for Nakamura.

That tag match was fun as hell. Usos deserved to retain, but hopefully Breezango will get their day eventually.
