ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
July 3, 2002

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

The WWE TV tapings this week have concluded, and all the shows slated to air between now and the conclusion of the upcoming long holiday weekend are in the can.

As always, you get one last shot to turn back now if you don't want to spoil the surprises on the shows...  but somehow, I suspect that if you're hear, it's because you WANT the spoilers.  So let's just get on with it.

Here they are, as compiled from various e-mail reports:

Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Justin Credible beat Shelton Benjamin (most actually say this was a DARK match, not taped for TV)
  • Trish Stratus defeated the debuting Victoria
  • Johnny the Bull Stamboli beat Shawn Stasiak
  • Raven beat Tommy Dreamer in a rematch from 2 weeks ago on RAW
  • Matt Hardy beat Steven Richards

Veloctiy
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Sho Funaki beat Steve Bradley in a dark match
  • Tajiri got a win over Kidman in a good match
  • Bob Holly defeated Chavo Guerrero in a battle of Tough Enough trainers
  • Christian became the 2nd Canadian in two weeks to beat Mark Henry (used a steel chair to do it)
  • Albert got off his Velocity losing streak with a win over the debuting Rob Conway
  • Jamie Knoble beat the Hurricane to retain the Cruiserweight Title; by all accounts a very good match, and by one, it was even better than their PPV match two weeks ago

SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • Lillian Garcia's singing of "America, the Beautiful" was saved for AFTER the show opening video package and pyro, which initially confused some people...  but it was for a good reason, afterall:  this Very Special Edition of SmackDown will be airing on the Fourth of July, so they wanted to include her rendition of the song in the actual broadcast.  Unfortunately, the Storm Foundation decided to interrupt, to a huge chorus of boos.  Lance Storm, Christian, and Test cut a big anti-USA promo after interrupting the song, which led directly into....
  • Storm defeated Rikishi via pinfall, thanks mostly to Test hitting the big boot on Rikishi while the ref was distracted by other Canadian hijinx.
  • Backstage:  Undertaker arrives, and John Cena is summoned to Vince McMahon's office by Stacy Keibler (and Cena, like Randy Orton before him, also gets the once-over from Stacy).
  • Building on Deacon Bautista's impressive, but brief showing last week, he once again teamed to Reverend D-Von, this time to score a pinfall win over Randy Orton and Val Venis.  Bautista pinned Orton after a slam of one kind or another.
  • Backstage:  Vince is talking with Chris Jericho about Edge when John Cena arrives.  Jericho's loud mouth eventually results in Cena slapping him.  Jericho gets all pissy, and Vince announces that it'll be Jericho/Edge at the Vengeance PPV, but before that, it'll be Jericho/Cena on SmackDown! tonight.  Meanwhile, in another part of Backstage:  Rico gets upset when he finds Billy and Chuck casually (and no doubt, suggestively) nibbling on Fourth of July hot dogs when they should be getting ready for their big title defense.
  • Hulk Hogan and Edge defeat Billy and Chuck to win the WWE Tag Team Titles, just as Rico feared.  Hogan, celebrating the holiday, came out in a modified red-white-and-blue outfit to "Real American" (his old theme song).  This, predictably, went over HUGE with the crowd.  After dispatching Rico, Hogan and Edge did stereo big boots and leg drops to get the pinfall win.  There was also a well-received post-match posedown with the new champs.
  • Chris Jericho managed to barely escape with a win over John Cena.  After a competitive match, Jericho hit the Breakdown, and then put his feet on the ropes for extra leverage in order to score the win.  Cena actually got some revenge, after the match:  he hit some sort of slam on Jericho, and left him lying.
  • Video package time:  Rey Misterio Jr. is again teased... and then footage of the nWo talking about Triple H is shown.  Despite promises that HHH would return to TV this week, this is the only sign of him all night.  Also:  they again try to squeeze in a taped vignette (which was intended to air last week, but cut due to time restraints) of Jamie Knoble and Nidia enjoying their new doublewide trailer; the punchline of the segment comes when the two decide to disappear in true Al Snow form to go have some sex.
  • In a bra and panties match, Torrie Wilson emerged victorious by removing Stacy Keibler's pesky clothing.  Then, proving ever magnanimous in victory, she removed her own clothes to reveal a patriotically themed set of under-garments.
  • Backstage, Undertaker cut a promo that was anti-Angle, but which was also anti-Rock...  so this isn't a full-fledged face turn, I guess.
  • In the SD! main event, Taker and Angle went to a draw.  The finish came when both guys locked in out-of-character submission holds, which somehow ended with Taker tapping out  at the same time Angle's shoulders were pinned to the mat.  A phalanx of referees eventually converged on the ring, and were evenly split between both men.  Finally, the assigned referee for the match gave up and decided to call it a draw, allowing Taker to retain the title.  After the melee (in a bit that may or may not air on TV), Team Canada stormed the ring and attacked Taker; Angle actually came back and made the save to a babyface pop.  Once the Canadians were dispatched, Taker chokeslammed Angle to an even bigger pop.

Check out the shows as they air throughout the weekend.  Or if your holiday plans prevent it, just come on back to OO for full coverage of the programs in their as-aired forms!
