ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
The OO Annual Pledge Drive
Updated October 23, 2002

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

NEW!  DONATE THROUGH PAYPAL!

 DONATE THROUGH AMAZON!

I sit here typing this at about 5pm on October 18, 2002.

It was about 5pm on October 18, 2001, that I came home, turned on my computer, went to WrestleLine to make sure my column got published, and instead found out that the site was shut down.

So this isn't the happiest of anniversaries.

But I'd like to think that subsequent launch of OnlineOnslaught.com was something good that came out of all that mess.  I got to sign up some new writers and introduce them to you (even if not all of them are good about contributing on a regular basis).  I got to work with CRZ again.  And when so inclined, we all got to say "fuck" when we wanted to.

In the interregnum between the demise of WrestleLine and the launch of OO on December 1, I begged and pleaded with you fine readers to help out with donations.  I knew from the get-go that I wasn't going to have the kind of oft-updated product that people would be willing to pay a subscription fee to see.  I also knew that I didn't have a newsletter to act as the money-generating portion of my wrestling empire, allowing to to run the website as a money-losing advertisement for said newsletter.  And I knew that I didn't have the stomach to subject you fine readers to two, three, or even five pop-up ads per page.

Thankfully, you came through, and I knew very quickly that thanks to your generosity, I wouldn't be losing money operating OO.

But unfortunately, I'm here again a year later, repeating my groveling...  all that 2001 money is gone, and I gotta do this again.

I, of course, feel awkward making the request, but I also feel fairly confident that the OO product must be worth SOMEthing to you.  There wouldn't be the number of people reading everyday if this was total crap.  I think there's value in a website that features intelligent commentary by wrestling fans who don't see themselves as the focal point.  The WRESTLING is the focal point.  If nothing else, I try to make sure OO is the kind of site I would like to visit.  And luckily, that seems to appeal to a lot of folks.

Last year, I said that if every person who visited OO in a week would donate a mere $1 to the cause, we'd be living high on the hog.  Or at least, I would be.  Of course, that did not happen.  Instead, some small percentage of readers tried to pick up the slack for the rest, donating $5 and $10 apiece.  I appreciate that very much.

I don't expect anything different this year: 100% participation in the "One Dollar Experiment" simply isn't gonna happen.  But I appeal to you to give a quick moment's thought to what you get out of OO.  If, after you think about it, you decide you don't get much of anything out of the site, you're free to let me know your opinion by donating nothing.  No hard feelings.  You still gotta look at my ads, afterall!

But if you're a frequent visitor here, and like what you see, perhaps you might be kind enough to toss some spare change on the pile?

I've set up two easy ways for you to donate online.  First, you can donate through Amazon.com by clicking HERE.  Or you can go through PayPal by clicking HERE.  Either way, it works about the same: you pick the amount, be it $1, $100, or something wacky in between, and it goes on your credit card.

For those of you who don't like credit card transactions over the web, but would still like to donate something, you can mail me at:

Thanks in advance to all who choose to help out...  with your assistance, we'll be able to guarantee that I will be begging you for your money for many Octobers to come!
