ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
April 30, 2003

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

The Fed got off to a strong post-PPV reset on the RAW side... could they duplicate over on SmackDown!?

Read on if you've simply GOT to know today.  Otherwise, hit "Back" and just watch the show for your own damn self tomorrow.

As compiled from e-mail reports:

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Al Snow replaced Lita as color commentator on Heat, working alongside Jonathan Coachman.
  • Three Minute Warning beat some local jobbers.
  • Rico beat Maven.
  • Ivory beat Molly Holly.
  • Lance Storm beat Spike Dudley in the best of the Heat matches.

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Rikishi beat a jobber.
  • Tajiri beat another jobber.
  • Crash Holly beat Jamie Noble.
  • A-Train beat Bill DeMott in the Velocity main event.

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • The show opened with Los Guerreros getting a win over Matt Hardy and Shannon Moore.  The Guerreros had the tag title belts with them when they entered.  Guerreros won clean when Eddie pinned Moore.  After the match, Team Angle snuck out and tried to steal their title belts back, but the Guerreros escaped with their booty intact.
  • Backstage: Stephanie McMahon is about to meet "Mr. America" for the very first time when she is intercepted by Team Angle, who want their title belts back.  Steph tells them not to worry, and that she'll order the Guerreros to return the straps...  but she also declares that Team Angle will have to put those titles up for grabs at the upcoming Judgment Day PPV.  In a Ladder Match.
  • Big Show hit the ring and bragged about what he did to Rey Mysterio at Backlash.  He says he gave Rey what he deserved and showed everybody that he's the biggest, meanest, nastiest thing since, like sliced bread or something.  Tonight, he handpicked another opponent... and it's Funaki, who comes right out and gets his ass handed to him in a two minute-long squash.
  • John Cena came out, and immediately got heat by flaunting a Mets jersey and a number of Bill Buckner references in front of the still-partial-to-the-Red-Sox New Hampshire crowd.  He's also talking about Lesnar and current events when Brian Kendrick suddenly interrupts.  Kendrick is decked out in vintage early 80's rap/hip-hop gear, and even comes equipped with a bit of freestyle rap from the same era.  Cena does not like being upstaged, and winds up interrupting Spanky with a beatdown.
  • Backstage: the FBI tries to pump up Chuck Palumbo for a one-on-one match against Chris Benoit, and promise they got his back.
  • The Benoit/Palumbo match only lasts for a few minutes before interference from the FBI and Rhyno causes a big ol' mess and a no decision... so the ref insists that we immediately start a new match:
  • Johnny Stamboli and Palubmo beat Benoit and Rhyno in a decent little tag match.  They got the win thanks to the antics of Nunzio on the outside of the ring.
  • Backstage: Stephanie is talking to Vince on the phone, something about "Mr. America" which apparently doesn't sit well with Vince... Lesnar appears, walking into the arena, even though he had the night off.  He tells Steph he's got some business to take care of in the ring.
  • Lesnar came out for a promo, and prefaced things by putting over John Cena and his gritty effort at the PPV.  But, he says, his real reason for being here tonight is to address what happened to Rey Mysterio.  He calls out Big Show, saying he's a spineless bully or words to that effect.  Show joins him on the mic for some sparring, and it all ends with Brock challenging Show to a match.  Show accepts, but not tonight, since he already wrestled.  One presumes that this is now your SD! main event for the next PPV.  Ooooh, goody.
  • Team Angle positively squashed a pair of jobbers, and then the real story kicked in.  The Guerreros came out and made a big show out of returning the tag belts and apologizing to Team Angle.  But while Chavo's doing this, Eddie is surreptitiously pocketing the Olympic medals that were hanging on Kurt Angle's portrait at ringside.  Haas and Benjamin are happy to have their belts back... until the Guerreros stop at the top of the ramp to flaunt their newest acquisition.
  • Backstage:  Sable is in Torrie Wilson's dressing room, and she's trying to convince Torrie that she should tag with Sable tonight.  Some veiled threats are made, and Torrie acquiesces.
  • Nidia and Dawn Marie beat Torrie and Sable... but only becuase once Torrie tagged in, Sable would not let her tag out.  Eventually, Sable just walked away from the ring, leaving Torrie to face, and get beat by, her two opponents, alone.
  • Main Event Promo Time!  Well, it IS Piper's Pit, so...  Piper, flanked as always by "Cowboy" Ace O'Haire, starts things off by retaliating to some of Jericho's comments on RAW.  But they rapidly move on to the main business of the evening: the introduction of "Mr. America."  Piper says it's time for Mr. America to come on down... and when the music hits, it's the familiar strains of "Real American."  Out comes a masked dude in red, white, and blue.  Even before he opens his mouth, the crowd knows it's Hulk Hogan in a blue wrestling mask, and responds accordingly.  "Mr. America," responding to accusations made by Piper, only gets a few "brother" laced denials of his real identity in before Vince McMahon storms the ring.  Vince tries the "Hogan, I suspended you, now get out of here" routine.  But "Mr. America" claims he personally doesn't know this Hulk fellow McMahon is speaking of, and that he, Mr. America, signed a bulletproof contract with Stephanie McMahon that Vince can't negate.  When Vince starts to get belligerant, Mr. America has no choice but to punch him out.  When Piper tries to interfere, he (and later, O'Haire) get chased away as well.  Vintage Hogan posedown -- I mean, "new-fangled Mr. America" posedown -- closes the show.

Very good reviews all around from the Northeast TV tapings swing this week.  Check out SD! on Thursday night, or come on back to OO on Friday for full coverage of the as-aired version of the show...
