ONLINE ONSLAUGHT
WWE TV Spoilers
February 18, 2004

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OnlineOnslaught.com

Blah blah, these are spoilers, which you shouldn't be reading if you don't want to ruin the rest of the week's TV shows, blah blah.

Ah, screw it.  You bought your tickets, you knew what you were getting into.  I say, let 'em crash.

WWE Sunday Night Heat
(Taped Monday, Airs Sunday)

  • Matt Hardy, Mark Jindrak, and Garrison Cade beat Spike, Bubba, and D-Von Dudley
  • Rene Dupree beat Val Venis
  • Rico beat Test
  • John Heidenreich beat the Hurricane

WWE Velocity
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Saturday)

  • Orlando Jordan beat A-Train (probably a dark match)
  • Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman beat Jamie Noble and Nunzio in a good match
  • Rhyno beat Shannon Moore
  • Sakoda beat Paul London
  • Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty beat the FBI to retain the tag titles

WWE SmackDown!
(Taped Tuesday, Airs Thursday)

  • Paul Heyman opens the show with an announcement: in the interest of Eddie Guerrero's safety, Heyman has given Brock Lesnar the night off.  So without an angry ex-champion to worry about, Eddie should feel free to celebrate tonight... with a title defense!  Against his nephew, Chavo!  With a Special Guest Referee!  Whoa, Heyman's stacking the deck against the new champ....
  • SD! then kicks into gear and Kurt Angle hit the ring for an opening promo.  He's in over-the-top, not-even-close-to-sincere mode as he congratulates Eddie Guerrero (even doing three cheers) and looks forward to a good clean match at WM20, but that he thinks he will come out on top.  Enter John Cena, who grudgingly gives Kurt credit for winning the #1 Contenders match, but who says he thinks Eddie will beat him at WM20.  That gets Angle hot, and as the two go back and forth, it seems like we might have another match setting up for tonight.... until Heyman re-appears back on the big screen.  He says Cena and Angle won't be fighting each other tonight: they'll be fighting together as a tag team.  Against the Bashams.  Next.
  • John Cena and Kurt Angle beat the Basham Brothers. Story is Cena is the babyface in peril as the Bashams hit his injured knee.  Hot tag to Angle, who cleans house.  At some point as Angle has the match in control, he gets too close to Cena, though, who blind tags himself in, to Angle's displeasure.  Cena hits an academic F-U on one of the Bashams to get the pinfall.  After the match, Angle has MORE words with the spotlight-hogging Cena....  but just words.
  • Backstage: Rey Mysterio asks Paul Heyman for a Cruiserweight Title rematch, but Heyman says it'll have to wait because he's already got Chavo fighting for the WWE Title tonight.  But Heyman's a fair man: Rey can have his rematch NEXT week, and as a reward for waiting, Heyman will even promise that it'll be a DOUBLE Title Match if Chavo wins tonight.  But, Heyman adds, since Rey now has an interest in the main event, he better not be tempted to interfere...
  • Elsewhere backstage: Rikishi and Scotty 2 Hotty are shooting cards, drinking beers, smoking stogies, and looking at WWE-sanctioned softcore porn with the APA.  The subject of the tag titles comes up, and the APA want a shot at them.  Scotty and Kish say it's OK with them, but they don't make the matches.  At that point, the World's Greatest Tag Team crashes the party, not believing their ears.  Afterall, they just BEAT the APA at the PPV, and any title shot should be theirs.  The boasting continues, and the APA and Rikishi/Scotty end up teaming up to take out Haas and Benjamin before ending the segment staring each other down.
  • Tajiri beat Billy Gunn.  Gunn had to overcome interference from Akio and Sakoda, but in the end, he fell to a buzzsaw kick by Tajiri.  And the Rick is happy: from jobbing to the Cat to beating the Load in two easy weeks, that's what I'm talking about!
  • Eddie Guerrero hit the ring for a huge promo/celebration.  They had balloons and fireworks and everything.  Eddie does a few minutes of heartfelt thank yous to those who believed in him, and then a few more of insults for those who didn't...  but it was only a matter of time before tonight's challenger butted in.  Chavo (with his dad) came out, and started bitching about how he had the biggest win of his career on Sunday, but all everybody's talking about is Eddie, Eddie, Eddie.  Good stuff.  Chavo promises that after tonight, they'll all be talking about him and his new WWE Title, because the special referee... it's gonna be Chavo Sr.  Uh oh.
  • Big Show beat Bob Holly to retain the US Title.  Not quite a squash, but also not as competitive as versus Billy Gunn a couple weeks back.  Show wins clean with the chokeslam.  After the match: John Cena came out and did a little freestyling, and challenges Big Show to a US Title match at WM20.  Show accepts, but only after his manhood is questioned.
  • Low Content Segment: Torrie/Sable/Playboy hype... Kane/Taker from RAW recap...  a little more heel rap from the Chavos... and Josh Mathews starts squealing like a little girl about how Brock Lesnar just arrived at the building against orders!
  • Brock Lesnar hit the ring for a promo of his own.  He puts himself over as a great champ, and an even better American citizen by way of insulting Eddie and belittling his win.  But Brock says Eddie can wait, because right now, he wants to settle this score with Bill Goldberg.  He ends the segment practically BEGGING Vince McMahon to make the match at WM20 for him....
  • Backstage: Chavo Sr. is knocked out!  Heyman, Chavo Jr., and Kurt Angle all converge on the scene.  Chavo is upset that his chances to win may have gone down the toilet.  And Angle is LIVID about these attacks, and says they have to stop, this is the fourth one in the last month!  When Heyman starts talking like he's going to punish Eddie, Angle says "No, no, no," because he doesn't think Eddie could be behind this, and tells Heyman to look elsewhere...
  • Backstage: after an ad break, Angle is leaving the building when Heyman approaches him.  Although Angle says he doesn't want to do it, Heyman forces him to be the replacement Guest Referee in tonight's main event....
  • Eddie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero went to a No Contest when ref Kurt Angle snapped and turned heel.  Great action here, better than the Royal Rumble match they did.  Midmatch, when Chavo Sr. tried to run out to interfere, Rey Mysterio came out and made a save, and hauled Senior away from the ring.  Match continued, and eventually, Eddie seized control.  After a rally, Eddie hit the Frog Splash, and should have won... but ref Angle picked that moment to go on tilt.  Angle refused to count the fall, and instead attacked Eddie.  Angle was fresh, and had no problem dominating Eddie in an attack that went all over the ringside area.  Rey tried to make the save again, but this time, he was put down since Chavo had eventually come around.  Meantime, Kurt hit a knockout blow, KO'ing Eddie with a shot from his own title belt.  Show probably ends there, although the live audience was treated to Eddie making a big comeback on Kurt so they could go home happy.

Don't know about you, but this one looks mighty strong on paper to me.  Check it out on Thursday night, or come on back here to OO on Friday for full recap and analysis.
