The 2010 WWE Draft Summary
April 27, 2010

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OOWrestling.com

I thought the Supplemental Draft was happening tomorrow (Wednesday), after WWE did TV tapings tonight (where, if tradition holds, those drafted away from SD are still allowed to make one final farewell appearance), and then NEXT week is when the new rosters officially go into effect.

Guess not, since I got a bunch of emails this afternoon talking about how the Supplemental Draft had merely continued the trend that started on RAW....

Namely, that RAW continued to rape and pillage SD, and clearly "won" the Draft, just as they usually do. I don't remember the last time when they even pretended like the two brands were equally and let them come off as even-steven, but the past two years, it's become REALLY obvious that WWE wants to load up RAW as the A-show, and couldn't really give a rat's ass about SmackDown being the B-show.

Oh well... in addition to the 8 roster moves in the official Draft, (7 guys, 1 girl), 14 more traded spots in the supplemental rounds (10 guys, 2 girls, 1 interpreter, and 1 midget). Here's the handy-dandy color-coded nitty-gritty for you:

Pretty lop-sided... both men involved in SD!'s half of the WM26 main event are now on RAW, and in return, SD got half of the tag team that jerked the curtain at WM26 and hardly nothing else of value. RAW getting the entire Hart Dynasty seems to make it even more one-sided, though in essence it doesn't matter since they are the unified tag champs and can hop brands as necessary.

Still: Edge and Jericho are HUGE gets for RAW, and on top of that, Morrison is the guy with the most upside in the entire draft, and suddenly he's on the Mothership, too. One thing I won't complain about: Goldust being shuffled back to the more "entertainment-y" show, where his gimmick will play better.

Well: assuming this isn't a prelude to Goldust being fired for the 8th time...

Would've loved to have seen Goldust and Cody land on the same brand, just because lord knows that Cody is a giant vortex of bland on his own, and working with his older brother could spice things up... to a lesser degree, I think Edge and Christian would have benefited from both being on the same show, although, unlike poor Cody, both will also be just fine on their own.

Once you get past the top three picks who moved to SD, their gets are just plain awful. I mean, guys like Masters and Hornswoggle? That's almost a case of subtraction-by-addition, if you take my meaning (I guess Khali is the counterpoint, as he actually makes things around him objectively worse, so RAW lost by gaining him; but 'twas necessary since you can't have Show and Khali on the same brand). Oy.

I'm sure I'll have more thoughts and analysis as time goes on -- especially as we see how Edge's actions at the end of RAW play out (was that a heel turn? almost seemed like it? and though that would be a nice balance to Show turning face and jumping to SD, it complicates matter so long as Edge's blood rival Jericho is also on RAW) -- but for now, this'll suffice....
