NEWSFLASH: CM Punk Crashes Comicon, Confronts Triple H
July 21, 2011

by Rick Scaia
Exclusive to OOWrestling.com

In an inspired bit of faux invasionery, CM Punk showed up today in San Diego for the first day of the annual comic book convention that has grown so big it goes by one word: Comicon. Tens of thousands of genre fans show up every year and mix, mingle, and celebrate their nerdliness... and the best part is, it doesn't exactly which genre you're into, just so long as it's one that's slightly dorky.

So, of course, the comic book fans are front and center... but there's the videogame players... tons of sci-fi fans... those who believe in wizards and witches... fans of homoerotic vampire fantasies... and yes, even professional wrestling fans.

This afternoon, Triple H, Bret Hart, and Rey Mysterio were holding a WWE "panel" (where fans of a specific genre congregate in a smaller, restricted area off the main hall), when an unexpected guest crashed the party:

CM Punk. Punk is, himself, a noted "genre fan," so he was no doubt enjoying the event for what it is... but he decided to enjoy it even more by grabbing his WWE Title belt and a megaphone to confront HHH in front of a HIGHLY partisan crowd. Let's just say the demographic where comic book fans and wrestling fans converage is not the one that supports John Cena.

In his brief appearance, Punk registered his claim to being the ONLY WWE Champ (regardless of WWE's attempts to crown a new one), asked about Zack Ryder, and implied he had had sexual relations with HHH's wife. Not bad for 3 minutes. Here's the full video (apparently shot and posted by somebody in cahoots with Punk):

If you remember OO's scheme for the PPV, where WWE might make use of the hour between the end of the PPV and the end of Punk's contract, and require fans to seek out "bootleg" footage of Punk's antics, then you'll know that OO endorses this as a fine substitute for the start of CM Punk's Social Media Scavenger Hunt... just because he won't be on WWE TV doesn't mean he won't be doing things to end up on your screens via other sources.

I suspect this is but the start. And a damned good one.
