OO HEAT RECAP
Hype and an Homage
February 21, 2005

by The Cubs Fan

TV 14 DLV CC entertainment open

We are live outside the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, PA ("which has more bridges than any city in the country" - someone get lost, Todd?) for No Way Out. Your hosts are Todd and Ivory, both covered up from the cold. Ivory's coat is open enough for her to showcase a lot of leg, and then laugh in an deranged manner. Sounds like it's raining, too. Ivory

looks not to be enjoying this so much.

No Way Out: Big Show vs JBL (c) for the WWE Championship
Talking point: What will Batista do?
Highlights from RAW (1:21)
Announcers debate who wins in a Batista/limo collision.
Highlights from SD! What does it say when the biggest story on SD! is a guy from RAW? (1:47)
Moments Ago: JBL's limo shows up, with no horn (and no Amy.)

Tonight: Charlie Haas & Hardcore Holly vs Rene Dupree & Kenzo Suzuki. Lovely.
Ivory lovingly announces the evil pair in her faux-Asian voice.

SmackDown! Live
02/21 - Baltimore, MD [SD!RTW21LT]
02/22 - Philadelphia, PA [SD!]
02/26 - Auburn Hills, MI [SD!RTW21LT]
02/27 - Columbus, OH [SD!RTW21LT]
02/28 - Danbury, CT [SD!RTW21LT]

WWE Rewind, sponsored by Snickers: Rey beats Doug, with some help from Eddie.
Ivory is snuggling up to Todd. She must be cold. She throws it to the warm inside

On to Josh and Steve Romero (4), making his Heat debut, which probably means they're finally letting Tazz and Cole out of this gig.
No Way Out: Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero vs the Basham Brothers (c) for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Romero almost forgets who Eddie is teaming with. Romero seems to indicate this is the opener.

NWO Press Conference highlights. (1:10)
More talk about Batista.

RAW: Batista WM21 Contract Signing
Josh figures what happens tonight will play a lot into that decision.

Chris Masters, the Masterpiece, unveiling tomorrow on RAW. (Or, just six months and four days since Jindrak gave up on this gimmick.)

No Way Out: Kurt Angle vs John Cena for a shot at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21
Talk about Angle being the hometown favorite.
Tournament Recap. (3:01)
Wow, Josh has magically made it down from the second level to the interview set to ask Kurt Angle questions! (This needed a 'earlier today' graphic, badly.) "John Cena. Josh, I've main evented the last two WrestleMania, and all I have to do to main event my third straight WrestleMania is to beat John Freaking Cena. I've beaten John Cena everytime I've wrestled him, and tonight is not going to be any different. John Cena, mister popularity. Well, Josh, this isn't a popularity contest, this is a wrestling competition for the most coveted prize in sports entertainment, to Main Event WrestleMania, and I'm not about to lose it. See Josh, tonight, I'm going to make John Cena tap, but personally, I'm going to hurt John Cena. I'm going to hurt him so badly that he'll never wrestle again!" Josh notes the hometown thing - "Whoa, Josh, lets downplay this hometown thing, okay? You saw what happened to the Steelers in the playoffs. They had 50,000 Pittsburgh fans cheering for them, and look what happened - they got annihilated, okay? When you have losers cheering for you, you become a loser, and I don't need that. Trust me Josh, I'll do  fine just on my own. Tonight, I will beat John Cena (7)." True to his word, he didn't have Jindrak or Reigns with him there - but what about the match? We didn't get to hear any reaction from the crowd, though they may still be coming in.

42 Days To WrestleMania.
Outside, Ivory is still shivering from the cold. "One thing to look forward to, is in Los Angeles, it probably won't rain." Segue to HOF talk.
HOF video package (1:34)
Todd and Ivory discuss the inductee's places in history. This works about as well as you might. Todd promises more names later on. Todd: "Let's throw it inside to two future HOFers-" Ivory: "Future HOFs? Please, Michael Cole? That's a stretch, Todd." They agree on Tazz.

Inside the Barbed Wire Steel Cage are indeed Tazz and Michael Cole. It's your normal open top cage, with barbed wire on the top. You're not going to touch the barbed wire without climbing. You can win the normal ways: pinfall, submission, escape. Tazz explains the door is going to be chain locked! That'll make some people happy. Tazz discusses the 15 stitches in his leg from his own barbed wire experience - he's not going near this stuff.
Tonight: Charlie Haas & Hardcore Holly vs Rene Dupree & Kenzo Suzuki.

WM21: Booker and Eddie

Back to Tazz and Cole, at the desk.
No Way Out: "Enemy" by Fozzy
No Way Out: Kurt Angle vs John Cena for a shot at the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 21
No Way Out: Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero vs the Basham Brothers (c) for the WWE Tag Team Championship
No Way Out: Chavo Guerrero vs Akio vs Funaki (c) vs Spike vs Shannon Moore for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship in an Elimination Match
No Way Out: Rookie Diva 2005 Competition
No Way Out: Booker T vs Heidenreich
No Way Out: Luther Reigns vs Undertaker
No Way Out: Big Show vs JBL (c) for the WWE Championship

Kenzo Suzuki & Rene Dupree (510 pounds, w/Hiroko and Fifi) vs Hardcore Holly & Charlie Haas (490 pounds) - Lots of time left, but they need a video package to set up the main event still. Okay, now Haas is not only wearing the old gear, but he's got a hooded ring jacket as well - in fact, as he raises his arms up, we can see it's Russ's old jacket, because his names are on the sleeves. Break before we get started, good.

vague digression: This weekend of Charlie honoring his brother is making me completely uncomfortable. I strongly agree with memorializing Russ (and everyone else who's passed away while working for WWE, and don't think they do a good enough job of it), and if I truly believed it was an innocent tribute from one brother to another, I'd feel honored to see it. Problem is, every alarm in my head is going off, screaming "ANGLE! ANGLE! HORRIBLE STORYLINE IN BAD TASTE AHEAD! REASON TO GIVE UP WATCHING THESE SHOWS QUICKLY APPROACHING!", because every match Charlie's had in the WWE has been a tribute to Russ if you've paid attention to his wrist tape, but suddenly the announcers are making a point of noticing it and Haas is expanding on it.

I find it hard to believe the company which buried Paul Bearer in cement (and claimed only internal injuries) not too long ago has any clue how to properly treat death, loss, and grief. More so, I find it easy to be that when it comes to a decision, WWE will often make the worst possible one. I'd take a billion Rookie Diva Search bits before enduring one poorly written wrestling sketch mishandling someone's death for economic benefit, and I'm very uneasy now in a way that's also completely unfair to Charlie.

Match is already in progress as we return, with Haas working over Rene's arm. Rene kips up, gets taken down by a fireman's carry. Armbar, tag to Hardcore. Kick by Hardcore, kick, armbar, forearms to the arm. Hardcore tells Rene to hit him, and he does. Whip, slam, Hardcore slips behind, Rene rushes to the ropes, Hardcore gets bumped back but he's still in perfect position to grab Rene's legs and give him the Alabama Crunch. Chop. Cross the ring, and turnbuckle smash. Chop. Chop. One more? Chop. Shot for Kenzo for trying to get involved. Drop toe hold for Rene, Hardcore floats over into a front headlock, tag to Charlie. Double whip, double hiptoss. Kenzo in, double hiptoss for him too. Dupree and Kenzo recover on the outside, as the crowd chants USA. Has and Hardcore go out after them, beating them up at ringside. Everyone back in, Hardcore whips Kenzo into the corner, Haas charges in with a shoulder. As Charles Robinson is kicking Hardcore out, Rene slips in for a reverse neckbreaker, one two NO. Rene with mounted punches. Stomp. Corner whip, and Kenzo gets in obvious shots form outside. Rene tags in Kenzo, and Kenzo goes after him with kicks. Turnbuckle smash. Choke. Double chop. Haas fights back with right hands, off the ropes, into a Kenzo clothesline. Kenzo pose. One two no. Tag to Dupree. Snap mare, Dupree dropkick to the shoulder (I guess) one two no. Chinlock. "LET'S GO CHARLIE" or "HARDCORE HOLLY" or "SUPER MARIO" or something. Haas gets free with a chinbreaker, and drops Dupree with a T-Bone Suplex. Tag to Kenzo, tag to Hardcore. Right for Kenzo. Clothesline for Hardcore. Whip, dropkick. Powerslam for Dupree. Going up, you can tell Cole's not been watching Hardcore Holly matches because he's surprised, top rope clothesline. One two Dupree breaks it up. Rene with a right hand, whip, reversed, and Haas backdrops him ito the floor. Alabama Slam for Kenzo one two three. (5:21)

No Way Out: Big Show vs JBL (c) for the WWE Championship

How we got here. (3:16)

That's it.
